taks, I have a question. How is it any more irrational or fascist to pay for someone else's helathcare than their security with the police and army?
The Constitution requires the federal government to secure the republic and defend the borders. It does not require (and I would make the argument does not permit) the federal government from administrating healthcare, nor compelling the citizens to participate in its largesse.

Space exploration is a lovely metaphor and all, and it's great in that it helps us to increase our understanding of the physical laws of the universe, the history of the solar system, etc. But the one thing we haven't found up there is anything that makes it remotely worthwhile to go through the cost and risk of sending people.
Except for Tritium which is extremely valuable, if only the logistics of actually extracting it and bringing in back could be worked out. Perhaps in our lifetime but not now. But I would point out that the baby steps must be taken before the big things and the benefits they bring can be accoplished.

PIT @ CIN - This has upset written all over it. But I'll play it safe. Steelers win.
MIA @ SD - Dolphins are mad about last week, but for a great QB they would have (and should have) won. Dolphins win.
DEN @ OAK - Two mediocre teams. Broncos win.
IND @ ARI - Tough schedule for Indy, two very tough road games. Cardinals win.
CAR @ DAL - Dallas rebounds. Cowboys win.

I passed on the job opportunity today. For the first time in years I'm pretty happy with my situation. For the first time ever, money is not everything. It just goes to show how your values change as you get older. A few years ago I'd have backstabbed my own mother for a shot like that.

I remember the contrasts between the 97 Marlins and the 02 Marlins. The 97 bunch hated each other are were less than cordial with the fans. It was all business and no fun. In 02 it was all young guys, the mood around the clubhouse was light, you could tell the difference on the field. It was much easier to cheer for those guys.

After the accident I had to give up running all together and really had to change how I did weightlifting (strictly low weight hi rep now). I would try swimming regularly but I live out in the sticks and there is no gym anywhere near thats in any way convienient. I did go buy a heavy punching bag and I work out with that almost every day, plus I bought a complete set of dumbells to do physical therapy with after the crash. But it's nothing compared to what I used to do. I can tell the difference, I watch what I eat so I have not gained weight, but I can tell my energy levels are not what they once were.

Phils took the first of a doubleheader with the fish. Their magic number is 5. With that loss and the way the rocks are playing it looks like the Marlins six year cycle will come to an end. But I really can't complain, both they and the Rays had great seasons and kept it intersting late. I really pulling for Minnesota to close with the Tigers, that would be a great story. I guess for the playoffs I'm pulling for the Cards & Twins if they get in.

I was offered a promotion today. Actually it is a whole other job but it is in management so it counts as a promotion. The money is much better, but there is a catch. The job is in Dallas. I didn't even apply for this, they dropped it on me out of the blue. So now I'm taking a nearly full bottle of Knob Creek, a steel bowl of ice and a glass and I'm going to go sit on my porch and think about this.

All around the world millions are declaring their undying love, singing paeans to someone's beauty, describing a person in wonderful, perfect detail while thinking "I could do worse".
People don't just choose the richest or the prettiest partner or the one with best personality. Most(all?) people settle for someone. Someone within their proverbial league, someone they can strive for without too much work/money/selflessness. People are lazy, scared, generally incompetent and unable to face the reasons behind their choices. No one's together with a perfect 10, everyone's married to a 5 and everyone knows it.

Sadly, I can't participate in the debate, but I'm glad to see you guys are still giving each other hell. For my part, in what is truly a message board irony, about the time that I started in on the discussion here, about 2 weeks ago, my appendix burst. There's a really long and stupid story involved here, but the upshot is, they discovered my appendicitis on Wednesday and took it out in the wee hours of Wednesday night Thursday morning. Pain after the operation, incision and all, is nothing when compared to the suffering before the operation. Anyhow, I just thought I'd check in so folks could get a good laugh at my expense.
Wow, what a bummer. I hope you recover quickly. Feel better.

I agree, that was inappropriate. I also thought it was very inappropriate when the Dems all loudly booed GWB back in 2006 during his State of the Union address but I notice nobody got in a snit over that. Talk about a double standard.

It was suppposed to be a joke, I thought it was funny anyway. But I do have to admit it was a lot funnier last night when I saw it after drinking all day. Nothing is really funny right now.

What a rotten weekend. Gators should have destroyed UT but didn't. Marlins got blown out by the reds today, Bucs got blown out by Buffalo. But at least the Phillies lost and in the minors the Redbirds won the PCL championship. How cool is that?

I hope you don't mean that as the Congressman, I think he was a member of Congress, was completely incorrect and thus the statement was both asinine and rude. Sure, let politicians call each-other out - but not while they're delivering formal addresses.

What the bloody hell Tampa?! What kinda halfassed effort was that? And what the hell Coach Morris? Didn't you bother to do any tackling drills in training camp? Did you actually see Jackson running all out with seven (FREAKING SEVEN) Bucs defenders all around him for almost 20 yards, not one could bring him down. Just how many tackles do you guys plan on missing this year? And do we even have an O-line??? I did not see any evidence of it. Oh I saw a bunch of fat guys wearing the right numbers, although I thought they must be receivers because the freaking Bills D-linemen were always behind them. And Leftwich you miserable piece of $hit, you need to spend a little time with a bag of footballs and a tire hanging from a tree. We are all getting a little sick of seeing your wobbly passes sail over everyones heads, fall behind them by ten feet or wost of all bounce before getting there. Freaking Windslow and Stoval, do you know what the sideline is? Leftwich is a rotten QB but when he actually does get it to you and you do actually catch it you need to GET BOTH FREAKING FEET IN BOUNDS. It's a good thing I didn't eat lunch today, I doubt I could've kept it.
Next week is supposed to be throwback week. How apporpriate, the way these guys are playing the orange and white will look just right.

Watched football and baseball since 11 am! Will continue to do so until 2-3 am. Direct TV Sunday ticket replays the days games all night so you can see the ones you missed.
Ahhh DirecTv, you understand me better than my wife ever did.... and you don't cost near as much!
Oh, and I've been drinking since I got up. It's a strange feeling to go from buzzed, to drunk, to back to buzzed. It's like runners high but for drinkers. Either that of my liver gave out.
