  1. From what I know, I don't have the option of what unit I get assigned to. I do know that during OSUT we get a wish list where we write down what three bases we would like to be stationed at the most. And I think that what ever base we get stationed at determines who we are assigned to. I personally want to be assigned to the 3rd ID. I heard they are a really good unit.

Hope your wishes come true and good luck :shifty:

P.S. When they do inlist you in a divison let us now which one :o

Will do. But you guys won't hear from me for probably the next 3-4 months. Internet access is a rarity down there during training.

  2. Well, I'm Infantry, so I go to OSUT (One Station Unit Training), which includes BCT (another name for boot camp), and then AIT (Advanced Individual Training), where you concentrate on learning your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). In my case, it is 11X, or Infantry. Then I get assigned to a unit, where I will continually train.

Is there any option to what division you can be asigned to or its a non-optional decision by the infantry?

  3. I admit that I am too anxious to put in that much time. I have been waiting 17 years for this moment, and I'm not up to waiting several more.

But when you're inlisted in a divison, won't you have to under go a boot camp that also lasts for quite some time?

  4. What if it's not what you were hoping for?

I considered enlisting in my military, but I didn't like the idea of having to be in it for 9 years (I was considering an Officer in the Canadian Army.  4 years of schooling to get my degree, and 5 years service.

Even the 2 year requirement for NCM was a bit too much for me.

Well, I certainly can't see myself doing anything else. Honestly, no other job even sparks my interest, not even a bit. So I guess I will just see if I like it or not, which I'm sure I will.

If you see your life only in the military, why not go to a military academy and become an officer - an obvious choice for anyone that plans a military carrer - and you'll still see action, or are you too eager that you haven't got the patience to spend several more yaers at the academy?

  6. Actually, I have already completed the Pre-BCT task list, which means I got promoted to E-2, or PV2. So I've done more than sign the papers :p  :D

ye crazy militaries and yer darned abbreviations! that doesnt tell me a friggin' thing! Did it involve shooting stuff?

    :-"

    p.s

    Dont mess with the Hoff.

Well, I shoot guns in my spare time (Ruger 10/22). But the Pre-BCT (Basic Combat Training) list is a bunch of tasks that you can accomplish to prepare yourself for training. The reward for completing it is being promoted to E-2, which is the rank of PV2. I guess you could call it Private 2nd Class, but that is not its official name. Here is a rough list of what you have to do:

    -Establish a direct deposit account

    -Learn military time

-Learn D&C (Drill and Ceremonies) which includes marching, executing rest positions, excuting facing movements, etc. All that fun stuff. :)

    -Recite the general orders

    -Identify rank structure

    -Learn the phonetic alphabet

    -Learn basic first aid

-Take the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test)

    -Learn land navigation

In addition to this, we also learned some of the basic combat formations used at the squad/platoon levels. We also learned some of the hand signals. Those are the best
