Honestly, the modern games I play these days like Dragon age and Witcher gives you the ability to play expansion after you have finished the game, so I just assumed I would be able to do the same here, that was a mistake. But it is what it is now, I should have read up on it before buying the expansion pass on steam. What’s done is done.
Yeah, that's definitely true, and the more modern approach to expansions would preferable for veterans of the game. I just know the devs wanted to do a Baldur's Gate style expansion that added new stuff to the map (Durlag's Tower, that ice island, etc.). It seems more geared toward new players or veterans who are more than happy to start a new game for the nth time. For people who are just getting the game, or (like me) just bided their time before playing it, it's pretty great to start out with the White March already in place, as it fills out the campaign with more content.
I also save constantly, so it seems strange to think that some people would have to replay hours and hours of game just to find a save from before entering the pit. Unless it's a Trial of Iron game of course. Those people are just screwed.
I personally prefer the modern approach to expansions. Still, to be so heavy reliant on the fact that the Pre-end save file will always be there or that users will keep a lot of save files is just well in my opinion, bad planning.
I mean the file could disappear because of user error, corruption or other technical reasons.
For those that can enjoy the expansion, be it if they have a save, start over, are a new player or decided to wait like you did, that’s great.
I’m not one of them, if I decided to replay the game again, that will probably happen in about 5-10 years and it was the same with baldur’s gate and Icewind dale after I finished them. It will be the same with this, for me that is.
I’m not, on the other hand going to refund the expansion like some other people have done, since I think Pillars of Eternity is an awesome game, there are too few like it, in this day and age. I hope for a continuation and the best way to make sure that happens is by making sure the company makes a profit on this game.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut I’m still going to hold some hope for that portal!
Kind Regards:
