Russia's main message of "Our victory is inevitable" looks fairly amusing given that this was supposed to be a quick and decisive foray but has now lasted well over two years. I don't think there's any doubt that Russia's position does look significantly better than Ukraine's, but the posturing is silly. But then, that's Russia for you. The abbreviation of their first nuclear bomb, RDS-1, stands for "Rossiya delaet sama" which means "Russia does it itself". A nice name, given that Russia was effectively stealing what others had done in the Manhattan Project. What interests me the most is the psychology behind it: Russia was lying and everyone knew they were lying, but despite all that, they simply had to lie. It would have been more honorable to give the bomb some other name, something that didn't involve a blatant lie, but apparently that was impossible: it just had to be a lie. (A Russian writer recently pointed out that the "Russian psyche" -- such that is displayed in the country's posturing, not the mindset of the individual -- is a curious mixture of almost megalomaniacal grandiosity and almost debilitating lack of self-esteem.)3 points

Hopefully not. I know we lost @Guard Dog to happiness, so as much as I miss him, I hope he stays busy with his new life.2 points

I dont think so because its not transmitting. I knew a guy who knew a guy that used to have a cell phone jammer in his car and would use it whenever he was driving because distracted drivers are a real nuisance around here. Im not sure of the transmitting distance but it worked like a champ on the cars in his immediate vicinity. Ive always wanted one of those gizmos that turns the traffic signals green whenever an emergency vehicle is coming, but those bastages in the FCC say civilians cant have those either.2 points

Shamefully, I actually only finished New Vegas today. My two main playthroughs is this one, where I left a bunch of stuff not done nor explored, and went with the wild card ending. The other one, over 10 years ago, I did about everything except for some straggling quests and, critically, the actual ending. It would have been an NCR ending. Next I'm considering Tyranny which I've restarted a dozen times but never finished, Storm of Zehir which I also never finished, an evil MotB run, or a new NV playthrough with only Arcade Gannon and a robot as companions. Or something non Obsidian. My backlog is humongous.1 point

Yes, then Soviet Union decided to "liberate" them, and annexed Moldova from Romania. The results were tens of thousands executed and deported Romanians to Siberia.1 point

I personally didn't like the wiz/chan build, i think its too slow and only blooms really late. But i love the DoT builds with combusting wounds for sorcerer role play. If you need a guide try this one.1 point

Macron had another speech, and he delivered even stronger wording about the French intervention in Ukraine. He has now officialy put it on same level as past French interventions in Africa to counter terrorism. https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/05/2/7453964/1 point

Psion/Troubadour is an example of being really good and lots of fun at the same time - at least for me. I think it's the versatility that motivates to apporach most encounters in different ways. You could go with one single set of actions every time - but it's much more rewarding to do the most efficient thing. So... summoning a bunch of X is always useful, but it takes a lot of time and steering the summons can be annoying - and it's totally not necessary if you can paralyze the enemies right away with a Killers Froze Stiff invocation - and so on. And you always have resources - but you cannot spell-spam high-level stuff right at the start of an encounter (which also makes stuff boring at some point). Mortar Monk is another example. It's gamebreakingly good - but somehow it still is fun to unleash the umphteenth Whispers of the Mortar Winds Mayhem. Can't even say why in this case. Maybe because one had to wait for it for a rel. long time and also maybe because it isn't optimal for single tough foes - so you have to interact differently in those cases at least. Maybe also because it's best if you assemble as many foes as possible in a rel. small area. So every encounter turns into some kind of minigame where I tried to lure, steer, force enemies into a certain spot before I started WotW. The Troubadour/Arcane Archer (see below) is a perfect party member for this (very high ACC and bazillion parallel pulses of Binding Web and Pull of Eora) Maybe yet another example could be a melee Bloodmage/Soulblade which is really good but also really versatile if must be. I'm not a big fan of Soulblades - but I read enough reports about this combo to know that several players did enjoy playing it. One-trick-ponies becoming boring to play is no secret. So maybe the takeaway is that versatile (and impactful) characters are more fun to play. Helwalker/Berserker with Saru-Sichr is very impactful in my game. Overabundance of wounds, very high chance for crit-chains, DoTs, great debuffing and CC and so on. Yet very difficult to manage due to the drastic self damage. It's a rewarding challenge imo. The good builds I had the most fun with (of course highly subjective): Helwalker/Berserker Mortar Monk Psion/Troubadour (solo & party) Steel Garrote/Bloodmage (solo & party) SC Furyshaper (solo) Stalker/Bloodmage (solo) Troubadour/Arcane Archer Furyshaper/Troubadour Streetfighter/Unbroken Assassin/Bloodmage Honorable mention: Assassin/Bleak Walker solo with Lover's Embrace. Absolute one-trick pony (or three-trick maybe... stack 3 everlasting DoTs on every enemy one by one, turn invisible, hide and wait) that I expected to become boring very quickly- but it carried the run for a sursprinsingly long time. Sometimes retreating and hiding was more difficult and risky as one might expect and sneaking past enemies failed often enough and things got a bit messy. Also sometimes it didn't work (Water Dragon, Huani O Whe...)1 point

Don't be naive. You'll add some undercover police into the crowd, let them throw some stones and now you can gas everyone. That's how it's going to play out. "Illegal protests" is a funny wording too. Guess who decides what is a legal and illegal protest? Random example out of the wild: Do you think they saw occupy wallstreet as a legal protest?1 point

I have observed that since Keyrock's forum-software post, he has not been around. Did we lose him? Was that a farewell post? That would make me sad.. Although in truth I often wonder why I still keep coming here myself. Life twists and turns ... but some habits are hard to break.1 point

I think that's why I like to play Helwalker/Berserker so much. I am forced to micromanage this character all the time (and AI settings won't cut it) and at the same time it's powerful and impactful. Most runs I abandoned indeed were with characters that were really good but simply too boring/uninteractive to play at some point. Interestingly enough the Mortar Monk was not one of them. Mostly casters. Their actions in each encouter could be scritped rel. easily.1 point

I hate to be that guy, but putting a game that hasn't been releases yet (or even shown much gameplay off) on a very specific place of your "Game of all time" list might impact the perceived integrity of your globally followed BruceVC game rating system.1 point

It's wild how so many politicians, pundits, police, officials, and other overpaid dip****s think that this is going to be the time that sending in the police to terrorize students is being on the right side of history. This is at least the fifth time as farce right? Here in Texas Abbot's personal army, the DPS, has been behind a lot of violence towards the campus at UT Austin. This is the same agency that played on their phones while children got gunned down in Uvalde by the way. Kinda hard to believe some college students camping is a bigger threat than a guy shooting kids, but I guess I don't have the galaxy brain for politics.1 point

I understand there maybe difficulty representing rain faithfully at this scale. But, hear me out, could we not have a toggle option for rain, treat it like a light rain or mist, in the options, as well as, making the rain effect in the world the same as if they were normal size so to not overtax any computers or make any complicated physics equations? This is mostly to just give the world a little more dynamics? Rain, Lightning, Fog, Snow, f*ck it, throw in an eclipse.1 point
