  1. Despite what says on the left I actually live in Partille, a suburb of Gothenburg that is actually its own municipality. Partille proper is a nothing of a city, but within the its area there are actually a bunch of nice places to visit and walk around in. Essentially Partille is in the middle of the woods. Here are some pictures taken by some guy who knows what he is doing: https://www.mikaelsvensson.com/photo/tag/partille-kommun/ And here are some pictures taken by some guy who does not know what he is doing:

  2. Well Belgrade is a city that has been leveled to the ground in more than a couple of wars, so architecturally it's a hodgepodge of different styles. Also with the Bosnian war more than a million Serbians were chased out of Croatia/Bosnia, so Belgrade had a very large influx of people in a short time which called for a lot of cheap buildings to be made.

  3. I remembered this thread after a new website with aerial pictures of Vienna went online. Like with Keyrock there's really no point in posting pictures of the 'burbs here, but the city's quite nice to look at I guess: If you're intrested you can look at the rest.

  4. Not much to say about Brisbane really... it's a city? Never were particularly fond of cities, always preferring to live as far as way as I could get while still have a job in said city. I guess the river is Brisbane's defining feature, shaping it's layout and history (and the evolving suburbs spreading out from the city center) The annual Riverfire festival (cancelled 2020 for covid reasons) Following the river to the sea and the outer suburbs there A hostel in Brisbane. Lots of backpackers in the city most years

  5. Ah. I remember this thread! I live in a small town on the southern outskirts of Silicon Valley, and we have an amazing mix of beautiful mountains and verdant valleys. Most of my pics are places I have ridden or run that are near my house. So yeah, not really the city, but what I tend to see in the distance.

  6. It's not just that. I don't feel as if I have a lot to say about Pillars of Eternity for instance. I argued a bit against a couple of religious nutjobs that believed Obsidian were pushing a massive atheist, uhm, agenda with the ending of Pillars, but that was about it. Not sure what changed, back on Interplay I was the most active poster in the Infinity Engine forums. By a lot. It's not like I can't talk about specific games for hours on end, but there's something about newer Obsidian games that makes me... not want to, and I can't figure out why.

  8. I love looking at pictures of other cities, so figured I'd make a thread where everyone can post pictures, and maybe write a little bit about the city they live in, without too much effort. So, where do you live? I live in the second biggest city in Norway, the biggest on the West-Coast, namely Bergen (population 275k). It's the former capitol of Norway, which changed when a younger brother (The Duke of Oslo) inherited the crown, and naturally wanted to change the capitol to where he lived, the bastard. Bergen was founded by Olav Kyrre, son of Harald Hardrada (the guy who was the leader of the Varangian Guard in the Byzantium Empire, later became King of Norway, and "ended" the Viking Age with his failed invasion of England). The city is known mainly for being surrounded by small mountains "The Seven Mountains" (we hike all seven yearly with my kindergarten), and for being exeedingly rainy. It once rained here in over 100 days in a row...but as they say here, "no bad weather, only bad clothing", or more modern "good excuse to stay indoors and play videogames". You can probably imagine how much we appreciate dry summers. "Bryggen" (pic below) shows the city's heritage as a Hanseatic port. Below that pic is a pic of the most popular tourist attraction, the "Fløybanen" (railyway up the most popular mountain, Fløyen). All in all I'd say it's a very nice city to live in if you can handle the massive amounts of rain. I particularily love having nature so close to the city - pretty much wherever you live you can reach a forest, or a mountain by foot. Since the public transport is nice, and nature is so close by, I haven't really ever felt the need to buy a car - saving me a lot of money. (Northern Lights very rarely happens here btw, more common up North)

  9. Vienna has vineyards within its city limits, so you should be good. If you can get past all the travel restrictions, curfews, lockdowns and the common tourist traps, that is. The first few of those should go hopefully go away soon but the traps... yeah, I guess they'll remain.

  11. I can't eat potatoes/stuffing anymore. Well, maybe a bite... Makes me miss Boston Market. We used to go to one for Thanksgiving. They've mostly disappeared here tho. I used to cook (small) turkeys just for us but became fed up with the frozen store things that took 20000000000 hours to thaw out. Plus our current gas oven sucks. Anyway ... when I was a kid at the family dinners my mother did this thing where everyone would get a card and we'd write down a few things we were thankful for that year, and then she'd read them all before dinner. So ... ---I'm alive, fairly healthy, not quite wealthy and ... wise. Well, 2.5 out of four ain't bad... --the camaraderie of this forum that makes it a place I like to hang out is always appreciated, too. Cheers all. *raises glass*

  12. No pitchfork here. I have no ill will toward any legitimate consumer that gets a card; some jealousy, yes, but no ill will. The scalpers, on the other hand, those mother****ers will burn in hell for eternity if there's any justice in this world. I plan to put myself on the auto-notify list for a EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra Hydro Copper once the auto-notify button becomes available (i.e. those cards go from announced to physically available).

  13. "And if by your own words he was lying to avoid charges" It was comment to this claim that I have never made You were claiming that FBI were investigating Flynn because of some crime they suspected him to have committed and your evidence was that FBI was investigating him, which is why I pointed out that FBI investigates all the members of the government, because that is their job. I see that you have hard time to come up with actual arguments, but you could at least be honest about it
    1 point
  14. If it really does end up at that price (granted, the EVGA version I'd likely want might be a bit more) ... as I said, I'd be tempted, if it's enough better than vanilla 3080 that is. Of course, I probably couldn't get a hold of one for a year or something, anyway ... probably for the best.
    1 point
  15. Yeah, they obviously suspected Flynn of a crime since they had the recordings of the meeting with Kislyak. I don't see how there's any realistic argument that they didn't. Obviously they'd frame it as a way to 'clear the air' or whatever and not tell Flynn they knew, but they did already knew that Flynn had lied to Pence.. The trouble with FBI investigations is that they always seem to be primarily fishing expeditions where they hope they catch someone in a lie so they can leverage that against them, and they seem... less than careful about informing someone when they've shifted to being a suspect as opposed to a witness. They are definitely very selective on what constitutes, for example, working for a foreign power. If they applied the same criteria as Flynn/ Russia to Saudi Arabia or Israel I'd have little doubt that half the US government would be in legal trouble. Yes Gromnir, I'll take your objection to that as already said.

  17. I got down into the sewer dungeon in Yakuza: Like a Dragon with Adachi as Foreman all pumped and ready to clear the barricades in the dungeon and reap whatever rewards lie beyond. Turns out that only Kasuga, the main character, gets the Demolish exploration skill for that job, which is kind of stupid IMHO. Oh well, it's not a big loss since I was going to make Kasuga a Foreman at some point anyway. The way the job system works is that every job has a few skills you get to keep even when using a different job, so it pays to train every character in every job up to at least rank 16 or 18 or 20, wherever the last skill you get to always keep is. I'm the type that likes to super overlevel my party once I feel the final battle is coming so that I can roflstomp the final boss; that's just how roll. Hence, I'll be grinding job ranks and levels eventually anyway. I also added Eri to my party, she's the lady from the management game. Her unique job is Clerk, a DPS job, but I switched her to Idol, a healer/support job, since I was severely lacking in that department.

  18. Great Maelstrom for me. Scrolls all have 1.6 secs casting time and 3 secs recovery in RTwP I believe. Edit: now my scrolls say 4.5 secs recovery - but I don't know if that's a vanilla nerf or if Community Patch nerfed that.

  19. I'm also not a huge fan of summons (except Essential Phantom and Watery Double) - but Call to the Primordials is so good because some of the Oozes have special abilites, several of them with unlimited uses. For example the Bog Ooze can cast Plague of Insects once and something like Overbearing Wave unlimited times. And the Greater Black Ooze has Divide and Conquer so if it gets "killed" it splits into two smaller oozes which can merge back again, giving enemies a really hard time. It also can do a corrosive AoE attack unlimited times. And besides that they always come as three and each has resonably high health. So those are the reasons I think that Call to the Primordials is a top spell. But I almost never use it.

  20. I had forgotten about this, I don't know why I specified it to be about "cities", when my intent was rather "where you live". So to clarify, if you live in a small town, or in a remote desert and want to show and tell us about it that's fine too! Since I'm very into wine and fine dining, I like visiting big cities with a rich food scene, where beautiful countrysides (& vineyards) are a short drive away. Both Vienna and Brisbane seem to be good candidates in that category.

  21. That’s the 8th Amend actually. But your point is correct . The 5th protects against compulsory self incrimination, seizure of person or property without due process or compensation, double jeopardy, and requires grand jury indictment before a person can be tried. The 8th protects against cruel and unusual punishment, torture, etc

  22. Giving false testimony is crime in most of the countries and not just for police but also for banks etc. organizations when you swear that information that you have given is truth for example when you apply for bank account, loan or even phone subscription etc. You don't need to plead the 5th, 5th protections means that FBI, police or any official has no right to torture you or threaten you with prison or any other punishment if you don't give testimony that incriminates you.

  24. Yes. That's where we started from. I understand it's a crime in US. I criticized it being a crime. If I understand correctly 5th amendment only works if you specifically plead the 5th and it only allows you to be silent. Which is a greatly flawed design in my opinion. I understand the situation Bruce. I understand it's a crime in US. It's not in most other western countries unless (this is important!) your official status in a case is a witness. In any other country Flynn would not be persecuted for lying to law enforcement about meeting Mr Rasputin. Only for meeting him if that was somehow criminal. To put it in the most simple term if police asks you "Did you do it?" You can in most western law abiding countries say "No!" without any additional repercusions, even if you actually did it.

  27. Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans out there. Happy Thursday to the rest of you fine folks. Hope it's a good one. I'm making split pea soup in the crock pot and fresh bread later. We usually have a pretty big party at the VFW but we decided to cancel this year with everything going on. See? It's ok to be smart and take precautions! It's when the government says "Thou shalt do thus or else" that I get my hackles up.

  31. Her Revenge is one of my favorite chanter abilities. You can easily explode mobs with one empowered cast of it (which you can do once per encounter with Sasha's Singing Scimitar, and then cast it immediately again with the phrases you get back, to finish off any survivors. It does significant damage to tougher foes as well, except for the few that are immune to lightning damage. Fortunately chanters have good alternatives for those foes. Currently, skald is my favorite subclass since it reduces the cost for this abilities to 2 phrases. This actually makes the game ridiculously easy, in an overpowered fun way, even on PotD, once you get the Her Revenge upgrade and the Scimitar, which for me is usually around level 7.

  33. Switched up my team's jobs: I made Kasuga a host, kind of an all around job, can do a bit of everything except healing. Foreman for Adachi. Naturally, I gave him the Zubaz looking variant of the job outfit, because why wouldn't I? This job has some super powerful charge up attacks, which should be good for boss and mini-boss enemies. Also, it's the only job I've seen that can clear barricades in dungeons, opening up extra paths. I made Saeko a Matriarch. Seems like a DPS caster class that applies a lot of DOTs like bleed. Plus, she wields a naginata, which is one of my favorite weapons, so I had to use this job. In my head-canon she's an Onna-bugeisha. I'm having trouble finding a better weapon for her, hence her low attack stat, since she's using the base naginata. This leads me to believe (read: hope) that special naginatas are going to be awesome. Only 3 members in my team right now since Nanba left (temporarily?) for story reasons. I'm sorely lacking in healing right now and will have to rely on items for that until I get a 4th member that I can turn into a healer. Sumire crafting gear for me. There's a management mini-game. Because this is Ryu Ga Gotoku that made this game, this mini-game has more depth than some entire games. You can buy and sell properties, hire, fire, promote, and train employees, give out bonuses, attend shareholder meetings, buy advertising time, I could go on and on. It's bonkers how much effort they put into this mini-game that's mostly optional. That's Ryu Ga Gotoku, they don't half-ass anything.

  34. Before the pitchforks come out, it's an RTX _3070_. Had I known on September 17th that signing up for EVGA's auto-notify wasn't going to be an exercise in futility I would probably be sitting pretty on a 3080 right now. Though given that it's an EVGA card I do have the option of stepping up to a 3080 and receiving it when stock presumably stabilises next year, or to a 3080 ti if it gets announced in the next ~90 days for a sane price.

  36. I agree Bruce. It’s a decision only the affected party can make. if your life is yours isn’t your death also? There was a great line in Skyrim: to cling to a thing beyond its usefulness is unseemly. How much more so when that thing is you. However I would never do such a thing or suggest anyone do so if the act will cause more harm to children or family, that kind of thing. well this is about a depressing subject isn’t it? I say we move the conversation along.

Same can’t be said about Alpha Protocol, were combat systems are rough and frustrating, and are also frequent and unavoidable.

  40. Pretty much all there is to see in Toronto But is the largest city (and thus most relevant) in Canada. Seems people here really want it to be seen as a world class city, but we're on the tier of Chicago rather than NY. All considered, it's not a bad place to live, although it is getting ridiculously expensive to live in due to a lot of reasons, things like preferences for single family dwellings, demand (although some people are stupid in how they MUST live near the core). Prices aren't as bad if you go into Etobicoke or Scarborough (two former cities that were eventually merged into Toronto), but the problems there are your jobs will likely be downtown and public transit offered there is a joke. A lot of immigrants ended up here, so at the very least you can usually find food from all over the world here (yet, no place has good doubles).

  41. I live in a little podunk town just outside (literally adjacent to) Charlotte North Carolina. There's not much to say about the podunk town, on account of it being a podunk town, it's small and quiet and fairly rural, so instead I'll focus on Charlotte. Charlotte was named for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the county of Mecklenburg, where the city sits, was so named for the same reason. Charlotte became Queen of Great Britain roughly around the same time the city was founded, thus the moniker "The Queen City" (Cincinnati can **** right off with their claims of being The Queen City). Charlotte sits at the very southern edge of central North Carolina in the Piedmont region. Because of several atmospheric effects beyond my understanding we get a fairly steady amount of precipitation year round. We're far enough away from the Atlantic coast that we're generally unconcerned with the hurricanes that ravage the Caribbean Islands and the east coast every year, and far enough from the Appalachian Mountains to not get their winter effects. We have long hot summers, with July and August being particularly brutal, as temperatures regularly go into the 90s (thankfully almost never into the 100s) and we get Florida-like humidity most of the time during those 2 months. Spring and autumn are AMAZING. March, April, May, some of September, October, and November are generally extremely comfortable. Winters are quite short and very mild. We average about 4 inches of snow a year. Some years we get none, some we may get a foot, most of it melts very quickly anyway. We do get a nasty ice storm once in a while. It's not unusual to see me out there in early December and late February wearing flip flops, shorts, and a t-shirt. Winter wear is mostly long pants, and a hoodie. Breaking out a heavy jacket and a proper winter hat is fairly rare for me, though I spent 30 years up in the frozen wastes of Connecticut, so I'm more used to cold winters, the natives wear proper winter attire more often down here. Charlotte lies just east of the Catawba River (I live on the other side of the river). Lake Wylie lies to the southwest of the city and Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in the state, lies to the north. Charlotte is the second largest city in the southeastern United States at roughly 900,000 people (Jacksonville, FL is #1), our metro area is roughly 2.5 million. Downtown Charlotte (called Uptown, for some reason) is almost entirely ultra modern, with lots of giant glass buildings and skyscrapers. A good portion of the outer parts of Charlotte have a decidedly medium-sized town feel to them. The city is fairly spread out (and constantly looking to consume Matthews to the south) with only the downtown area and a few of the more centrally located areas being heavily congested. There is a metric ****ton of parks scattered around the city (and many more just outside it). The city is home to the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and the Charlotte Hornets (NBA). Note: Pictures not mine

  42. I don't have a problem with him being anti-slaver, but there are some implementation problems with his responses at Crookspur. 1. If you decide to try and resolve things diplomatically by walking into Crookspur rather than sneaking in the back and liberating the slaves by force, you're immediately presented with a slave auction. My character being anti-slaver himself, I bid on and purchased the slave "Handsome Elian" so that no one else could, planning to release him immediately afterward (the game allows you to do exactly this). Serafen responds negatively during the purchase, which is understandable, but you are never given the opportunity to assuage his concerns (e.g. "trust me on this"). 2. Rather than being able to buy Handsome Elian and free him on the spot, you are forced to go into the fort and speak with the administrator to complete the sale. Ok, fine. 3. Once you start THAT conversation, you are presented with the option to take the slavers' quest - f you say no, everyone goes hostile.* Figuring that probably wouldn't be good for the slave waiting outside, I take the quest figuring that I can betray him later like *every* other quest of this type. 4. And that's where Serafen goes off. When he does, you are given no option to tell him that you have no intention of actually helping the slavers and that you plan to essentially nuke the place before the day is out - all you can say is, "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." It's frustratingly limiting. By locking into you speaking with the administrator in order to free the slave and then locking you into taking his quest or killing everyone, the game takes you from trying to help a slave to being a slaver ally in the eyes of your companion with little choice on your part if you're trying to postpone an all-out fight. *you can get out of this by choosing "farewell" immediately after he says "One more thing..." but it doesn't feel at all natural from a storytelling perspective. The whole Crookspur questline is messy as hell.
