  2. I see the number strings only as well (due to Firefox's anti tracking nuking fbcdn and similar, I believe), but meh, not an issue. I quite liked the text descriptions of the missing images that occasionally cropped up since about half the time I could guess the image from that and the other half the time they were amusingly random, but they seem to have stopped.

  5. relative few jobs in the US, even professional, is covered by a contract. at-will is standard. nevertheless, just as when issue is the employee's race and religion and other protected classes/groups, if the plaintiff shows proof the employer fired for an improper reason, even if no reason is provided, the employer will need make the plaintiff whole. thanks to social media and email, employers is frequent memorializing their stoopidity, so one not even need rely on recollections o' a parade o' disgruntled employees who perhaps overheard a conversation which may or may not avoid hearsay depending on situation and context. HA! Good Fun!

  7. You used to be cool, man. Reading "Show Stopper!: The Breakneck Race to Create Windows NT and the Next Generation at Microsoft", nothing too technical but is an interesting history book, so to speak. Shame there's not more of these about game development, Masters of Doom and Blood Sweat and Pixels were enjoyable reads.

  14. B doesn't follow from A. Unity probably handles worker threads very badly, this is probably the most certain statement one could make. YMMV though. I tried special K/whatever on my AMD 2700x and didn't get much of an improvement back in the day. Most people are very very bad at properly measuring performance ("most people" also includes some hardware review outfits), so anecdotal stories of getting +10-15 fps are overblown to me since a bunch of other things might be different with your tests. I had gotten some initial gains, but with repeated testing it mostly seemed to be an artifact of having improperly measure cold-start-deadfire performance to non-cold-start-deadfire performance (and also confounding factors of things happening randomly in Nekataka). The more I tested it, the less it seemed like I got any gain whatsoever. (Though now that this thread has been necro-ed, I will probably give it a shot on my newer 3700x build just to see if it helps.) However, this has almost nothing to do with CPU overheating. Any competent PC build should be capable of dissipating the heat from 100% cpu usage, and the cpu should also be capable of thermal throttling (same goes for GPU). There's nothing special about Deadfire or Unity that would cause this. It's hardware problems, pure and simple. Saying that normal cpu usage causes cpu overheating is misinformation. The game won't run like ass on all high end systems. It's more complicated than "higher core count = bad". In terms of bad performance, I've seen reports from people with virtually identical systems as something I use, and I don't have the same problems. Saying "it doesn't happen to me" is extremely relevant in such situations, because it rules out software, or at the very least points to an underlying issue that is nonobvious and more difficult than "use this mod and it fixes everything." I've had Deadfire running on a haswell + 1060 pc and had no stutter issues (aside from the ones that always happen when you cast mirror image), so if other people with similar or better setups (including one person who had an ostensibly identical setup) are having stutter issues it rules out (obvious) software issues because the software is literally the same within a platform (e.g. steam literally verifies with checksums). That being said, this is not a defense of Deadfire or Unity - for one Deadfire has serious cpu+memory leak issues. I think the severity is actually a relatively newer issue than from release - I don't know when it got this bad. It was extremely noticeable to me during my Ultimate run - I had to explicitly save/quit before and after my Belranga attempt because the sheer amount of spider corpses in my fight would cripple my otherwise pretty beefy PC, and if I continued on without quitting the game after beating Belranga I'd be stuck with 10-15 fps in fights, even if I quit to menu and long after I had left the Belranga map. In addition, every time you do a save/load cycle, something isn't being cleared properly (this was extremely obvious back in the day when hsip to ship combat battles or audio effects would have weird post-load effects). On both my newer build (a watercooled setup from a month ago) and a slightly older build (2700x w/ vega 64), I get 100% gpu usage and >60 fps (hard to say by how much because my main display is an hdtv with a max of 60). However, the more I save/load, my gpu usage starts dropping and my fps also starts dropping - basically my performance is becoming increasingly CPU-bound and is throttling my PCs ability to display frames faster. It is definitely not temp throttling - especially in my watercooled setup, my CPU and GPU temps stay cool the entire time. All I have to do is exit the game and come back and everything is fine again. This doesn't happen in other Unity games I've played, there is definitely something spaggheti-code going on with Deadfire (as if patches 4.0-5.0 weren't clue enough about the spaggheti code). edit: tl;dr - instead of doing full VO they should have hired more programmers and QA testers. OR cut some features and have their existing programmers and QA testers have better coverage on the remaining features.

  16. I mean I would be interested if it was a proper space combat sim. The more arcady approaches never worked for me. I am kinds surprised no one attempted to kickstart a proper space combat sim. I mean Chris Roberts did, but then got sidetracked by the whole building-digital-space-universe thing.

  18. Yeah, I was back in school aswell, but I didn't really have any problems when I replayed the game about a decade later. Oh, wait... I was unemployed, doesn't count XD I do remember some rubberbanding in the driving missions that annoyed me, at times it seemed like the antagonist gained 200hp and racing slicks on you, but other than that I felt it was decently challenging but not unfair, atleast when it came to the shooty bits.

  20. **EDIT June 5, 2020** Hello everyone! As Steam has changed the start date for the Steam Game Festival to June 16th, we will be changing the Xbox Insider Flight to match that date so all of our players can play the game simultaneously. You will now be able to experience the tiny taste of Grounded starting June 16th through June 22nd. We can't wait to see you in the backyard then! Want more Grounded information? Then be sure to join our Discord community! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone! Are you ready to get a tiny taste of the single-player experience? Then get ready, because the Xbox Insider flight now has a date! But wait, there's more! Grounded will also be participating in the Steam Game Festival at the same time! Starting June 16th 9th and extending through June 22nd 14th, BOTH the Xbox Insider flight and Steam Game Festival will start, and you will be able to play a demo of Grounded! On June 9th, Grounded flight will appear on the Xbox Insider Hub for those in the Xbox Insider Program to download. There are a limited number of downloads allowed for this flight and it will be on a first-come first-serve basis. We will announce the opening of the flight on our Twitter page, so if you aren't following us already now is the perfect time to do so! Participating in the Insider flight will also be the only way you will be able to play this demo on your Xbox console, so if you are an Xbox console player this is something to keep in mind. To participate in the Steam Game Festival, starting June 9th you will be able to download and play the same demo that will be released on the flight. You will need to have a Steam account to play, and that's it! We are excited to have you all here on this journey with us, and look forward to getting you all in the game for this single-player demo! See you in the backyard soon!

  21. The game was really hard - sometimes in an unfair way. This combined with the checkpoint saving needed some real nerves. I was still in school back in the days, so had lots of free time, but if a game would do that to me today, I'd stop playing it after a few hours.

  25. Multiclass character caps at the base Power Level of 7 (Single Class can reach PL 9 and also take Prestige -> PL 10). You can add further "temporary" Power Levels with potions, items, inspirations and so on. For the Rogue part in a multiclass that means Sneak Attack climbs from 30% (PL1) to 60% (PL7) additive damage. That's +5% per Power Level. Monk's fists have a base damage of 14-19 crush (average 16.5) and 7 base PEN - but start right away with a bonus of +5% dmg (additive like Sneak Attack), +2 ACC and +1 PEN and then scale every even PL with +15% dmg, +4 ACC and +1 PEN: PL1: +5% dmg, +2 acc, +1 PEN PL2: +20% dmg, +6 acc, +2 PEN PL4: +35% dmg, +10 acc, +3 PEN PL6: +50% dmg, +14 acc,+ 4 PEN ..and so on. It's a bit like like enchanting a normal weapon with fine/exceptional/superb/legendary etc. Note that nearly all damage bonuses besides lashes and PL-Bonuses for abilites (more about that later) are additive. That means you just take the base damage of the weapon (here 16.5) and multiply it with the added damage bonuses. A Monk/Rogue at PL 7 would calculate his damage for auto-attacks like so: DMG_1auto attack = 16.5crush *(1base damage itself + 0.6Sneak Attack + 0.5Tanscendent Suffering) = 35.65crush Let's say you have MIG 15 and land a crit, then it looks like this: DMG_2auto attack = 16.5crush *(1base damage itself + 0.6Sneak Attack + 0.5Tanscendent Suffering + 0.15MIG + 0.25crit) = 41.25crush With a 20% lash from Turning Wheel and a 15% lash from Lightning Strikes: DMG_3auto attack = DMG_2auto attack + DMG_2auto attack * 0.2Turing Wheel + DMG_2auto attack * 0.15Lightning Strikes = 41.25crush + 8.25burn + 6.19shock An abilities gets a +5% dmg bonus per PL (over its native one). That +5% is multiplicative. It raises the base damage. So if you are at PL7 and attack with Force of Anguish for example (native PL1,) your base damage will not be 16.5 like with an auto-attack but instead 6PL*5% = +30% base damage --> 16.5 * 1.3 = 21.45 base damage So with Froce of Aguish at PL 7 the above calculation from DMG_2 would now be: DMG_2Force of Anguish = 21.45crush *(1base damage itself + 0.6Sneak Attack + 0.5Tanscendent Suffering + 0.15MIG + 0.25crit) = 53.63crush with the lashes like above: DMG_3Force of Anguish = DMG_2Force of Anguish + DMG_2Force of Anguish * 0.2Turing Wheel + DMG_2Force of Anguish * 0.15Lightning Strikes = 53.63crush + 10.7burn + 8.04shock Hope that clears it up. It looks more complicated as it actually is I guess.

  28. No afaik single class monks couldn't get past SSS, cuz it was too squishy, but never tested SSS with monk myself so idk if there is a workaround with Ooblit. (Most/all (??) people who did the Ultimate did SSS before Forgotten Sanctum tho.) Oh interesting, so in the end it does scale the same. edit: as multiclassed monk that is.
