  2. I make my own nowadays. Just peel lemons and soak the peels in a strong neutral spirit for a while then drain and mix the liquid with water and sugar. That way I can control the sweetness and make sure there are no additives in my adult lemonade.

  3. The Charlotte area, where I live, is set to reopen this Friday. Hopefully people stay level headed and don't go overboard when they can enter a bar again for the first time in 2 months. I'm on the road right now and it's interesting how different regions are. I was in the northeast recently and that part of the country... I won't go so far as to call it a police state, but it's not that far off. As I've been traveling west, I could see it easing right before my eyes. Ohio about half the people were wearing masks, in Indiana, less than half and much less on edge. I'm in Wisconsin now and if you just woke up from a coma, you'd hardly know there was a pandemic. I get home in about a week and a half. I'll get to see my sister for the first time in over a year. She's moving down from Massachusetts to stay with me for a while. Earlier this year she had the same thought I had 4 years ago "What the hell am I still doing here?" Originally, she was going to come down to visit at the beginning of April to check out the area and also to visit friends she has that live near Raleigh. Obviously, the pandemic put the kibosh on those plans. I had told her earlier that if she ever wanted to move down to North Carolina, she could stay with me for a while if necessary and my folks made the same offer to her if she wanted to move to southern Florida. The Covid happened, she got furloughed, then the place she was working closed down, so she decided to just take the plunge and take me up on my offer. I'm happy to have her, plus she'll have the place mostly to herself since I'm on the road most of the time. Ultimately, she wants to move to the Asheville area, since my sister is an artist and Asheville is low key famous for its art scene, plus it's a gorgeous area. I'm thinking of moving there myself in the future or Tennessee (no state income tax!). I want to buy a house in the mountains eventually, I'm not yet sure whether the North Carolina side or the Tennessee (think Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge area) side, both are breathtakingly beautiful areas. As an aside, it makes me sad how many people I see online (not here necessarily) that seem to be rooting for the states opening up to falter and have a second wave. It's a sickening attitude. I'd like to believe that the vast majority of people are not that awful and I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that the fringe wackos are the ones that tend to yell the loudest on social media and such.

  6. trump loyalty baffles us. the double-down on stoopid or wrong is shrugged off by trump loyalists, while responsible journalism is derided. whether is injecting disinfectant, cancer causing sound from windmills or sharpie altered hurricane forecasts, is the media which is at fault. what? the media didn't immediate vilify hydroxy championing by trump, 'cause honestly, how many folks in the media knew anything 'bout hydroxychloroquine? journalists did what they were s'posed to do-- they interviewed/asked actual experts to figure out what is hydroxy and why it would be a treatment getting Presidential approval. so when indisputed medical experts such as fauci suggested it were too early to advocate hydroxy and that it were arguable irresponsible to promote such a drug w/o more rigorous and controlled testing, journalists questioned trump 'bout his advocacy. blame on media? why? 'course predictable, trump doubled-down and suggested plots and conspiracies in addition to making claim the drug were perfect safe and people should take for covid-19. weren't a major issue until trump made it an issue. nevertheless, is somehow media's fault. btw, in case medicine dan missed it, we had the hydroxychloroquine discussion earlier in this thread and personal we can see some arguable optimism for use by young and healthy patients. for older patients with comorbidities unlikely to be facing cytokine storm scenario from covid-19... nevertheless, 'cause has been known for decades hydroxy has positive lab results on viruses in lab situations, every time a new virus appears, hydroxy gets tested, as it should. has never proven effective in the past outside o' a lab, but is no reason not to at least test. regardless, a reasonable person might question why trump were so dogged advocating hydroxy in spite o' expert cautions... just as a reasonable person might be concerned 'bout trump's windmill crusade and his willingness to alter weather maps. a reasonable person might... trump loyalists abandon reasonable. blame media. blame democrats. blame religious minorities such as muslims and jews. blame immigrants. this kinda endemic obtuseness wouldn't bother us save that on a national scale is dangerous. is dangerous when the leader is 'bove question and his followers is so quick to cast blame elsewheres. am gonna remind medicine dan and others how this double-down behaviour were a day 1 (and earlier) issue. inauguration crowd size were not a big deal, until the administration lied 'bout it. the press weren't dogged 'bout crowd size-- crowd size were meaningful to few save for trump. media kept asking 'cause the administration were gaslighting and were attempting to force parks service and other nonpartisan bureaucrats to lie on behalf o' the administration. shoulda' been a warning to the trump loyalists that their champion were willing to gaslight and come up with "alternative facts" bs to defend what shoulda' been an issue o' limited consequence. if trump would lie 'bout inconsequential, then why not the important stuff? oh, and medicine dan, seeing as how he is now a medical professional, should be particular concerned 'bout the President's irresponsible advocacy o' hydroxy. 'cause o' the President advocating w/o legit scientific basis, there is now a shortage o' hydroxy for people who suffer from lupus... unless you are rich and wealthy and have connections. understandably, and for what should be obvious reasons, lupus patients who use immunosuppressives has had to alter their medication regimen during the current pandemic. so for lupus patients hoping to manage their condition, hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are the options. am suspecting some in media do take perverse pleasure at seeing every new study which supports notion hydroxy is as ineffective regarding covid-19 as every past virus. unfortunate. no doubt there is more than a few media folks who, understandable, want trump to fail. go figure. is no surprise some take personal being labeled as enemies o' the state for reporting. fact some in the media want trump to fail is unfortunate, but such bias don't make their reporting o' trump blunders wrong. however, it don't take any kinda mental gymnastics to recognize media bias while simultaneous admitting trump is a mendacious and skeevy huckster who will invariably double-down on every falsehood and mistake no matter how minor. HA! Good Fun!

  10. I liked the Silmarillion much more than Lord of the Rings (which I also enjoyed). As long as you know what you're getting they're pretty good. As Gromnir likes to point out, it's Tolkien's idea of what he wanted British mythology to be and therefore differs from usual (fantasy) novels. Like apparently everyone else here I used to read a lot as a kid. I was particularily fond of Story Teller magazine because it helped me to learn to read early. Story Teller and playing on a bootlegged Atari 2600 knockoff ar some of my earliest childhood memories. Everything else that I read was very much non-fiction. I had books about a wide variety of subjects, from space to biology to the at the time inescapable dinosaur craze and of course my favorite, a book called "How does that work?" - a couple hundred wonderful pages detailing how various day to day technology works, from ballpoint pens to locks that I must have read tens of times. When I was nine I didn't read War and Peace like LC, I read the MS DOS 5.0 manual. That was a long and dry read too. Heh. Probably not much easier to make sense of at that age either. Yeah, I was that weird kid at school that even the other weird kids made fun of. *shrug* Still read a lot. Lots of tech stuff too, mostly for work.

  11. LotRO is still going well. My son and I are tackling quests together, he as a hunter and me as a warden. We are up to level 17 and it was amazing to take him through the Old Forest to meet Tom Bombadil. I also have a dwarf stout axe Guardian that is level 27 to play solo. I am excited to get to Moria. That is my favorite area of any game I think I have ever played. We also bought a couple of houses in an elven neighborhood. My daughter played a bit too, but she seems less excited about it.

  16. What I plan to do, second version : Nerfs & tweaks : His Heart Did Fill with the Light of the Dawn (already in the mod): +1 Ressource -> +2 RessourcesDoes not affect the caster anymore. Blood Mage -> Blood Sacrifice Recovery to 3s Blood Sacrifice regenerated Tier chances aligned with the table below. Tactician : Brilliant Tactician -> Acute (it shall not be as good as a Cipher Tier VII Power, so I see no obvious way to keep Brilliant) Add passive negative effect "Tactician Prudence" : +20% Recovery to everything (subclass has more ressources, but uses them slower). Add passive beneficial effect "Backup Plan" : 1/ressource per class every 30s (unconditional). This is to put a harder limit on ressource regeneration for both classes while addressing the trick to constantly "reboot" Brilliant to get the initial +1 ressource. WoD : Procs trigger a hostile lasting effect : for 6s ,-2s beneficial effect per 1s Procs trigger a (non-cumulative) beneficial lasting effect on catser : for 6s, +0.66s beneficial effect per 1s This essentially triples the duration of beneficial effects on caster, and divide per 3 the duration of beneficial effects on foes. Works better on ennemies crossing the wall, works better as a dispell, but nerf hard the self buffing part (but still better than my version of SoT at this) @Raven Darkholme : this is close to what I did for SoT. For Brilliant, Blood Mage, His Heart Did Fill, and the new "Tactician Backup", I want the ressource regeneration for casters to work like this (I have to check if possible) : 3/6 chances to restore Tier I-III 2/6 chances to restore Tier IV-VI 1/6 chances to restore Tier VII-IX (interestingly, this is WoD Tier) I think there should still be ways to immortality (Tactician Unbending + Bloodmage WoD spamming), but most likely so tedious that it is below my alarm line. For a complete playthrough, they won't work well against dispells anyway. @thelee : feel free to comment if you find Something Broken (not just slightly OP ) Buffs (to address the general problem of Single Class Martial ressources) : Stunning Shot : add 10% chance Bond on Crit Heart Piercer : back to 4 bonds (my mod tuned it to 3), Enfeebled set to infinite duration (sort of passive) Distracting Training : in addition to my previous duration buff to 15s, I will allow it to work on any Attack (not just melee) Wall of Flashing Steel : add 10% chance Guile on Crit Vengeful Defeat : add 2 Rages on Unconscious Note that the On-Crit ressources have good synergy with Rogue's Gambit and general ability of Ranger to generate a tons of attacks through driving flight, Twin Shots or Whriling Strikes. That's why the percentage has to remain low. It would also favors Blunderbusses (even with their Acc malus), but I hope not too much.

  17. You don't steer a party in Diablo. It's the stuff from 6 or 5 party members that fill up the screen at the same time which makes it difficult to tell what's going an. Also because the combat mechanics are much more complicated than in an Action RPG and you have to pay attention to what enemies do, when your guys' recovery is over and so on. Huh? James Ohlen was the lead designer in both games and thus might have had the biggest impact on all design decisions. Feargus Urquhart (whom you mean with "main man from Obsidian" I assume) was President of Black Isle (which was the RPG development team of the publisher Interplay). Black Isle didn't develop neither BG nor BG2. That was Bioware. Bioware got assigned by Interplay (but was no part of it). Black Isle developed PS:T, IWD and IWD2. Feargus supervised the development of BG as well as BG2 for Interplay while it was done by Bioware (for Interplay). Here's a quick schematic representation: By the way: whatever one thinks of Feargus: he was the one who suggested to use Bioware's tech-demo engine "Battleground Infinity" for D&D CRPGs. Which they did then with great success for all games that I mentioned above. Without Feargus they would most likely not have been made (that way).

  20. Standing behind a tough guy is rel. difficult when you're doing the ultimate. Llawran's Stick is nice because it comes so early. The crush-only dmg is a little problem - but luckily there's Durance's Staff which comes even earlier, does crush/burn and can be used as backup. Later Firebrand - since you will be using the RDC belt anyway I would assume. I can't remember if there are any enemies which are immune to crush AND burn. Blade of the Endless Paths has Marking which is great in general but of no use when going solo with a Cipher. And it might prevent enchantment up to legendary (? don't remember). As the quarterstaff an estoc has only one dmg type (pierce). Flame Blights are immune to burn and pierce for example. Of course you can always pick whatever backup weapon and just live with the -6 ACC (if your weapon focus doesn't match). Or use a Soulbound. Too bad a Cipher can't cast Reaping Knives on himself...

  21. It was a slow start. I didn't remember that JA2 1.13 had all those complicated inventory mechanisms, where even the effin hats have pockets Just liberated Drassen, waiting for the inevitable counter attack. Trying to train a few more militia men, as they do make the fights a bit easier once you get a foothold. I have Steroid in my team, but as funny as I find his Arnold Schwartzenegger schtick, he is not worth it at the moment. Sticking with Barry, Grunty, Ivan, Fox and myself. Wolf is busy or he would have been my next acquisition. Also, choosing weapons at Bobby Rays seems a bit more overwhelming than I remembered it being (even for 1.13) edit: I know they are "simplistic" by todays standards, but I love the little interludes between Elliot and Deidranna (Elliot, you idiot... slap, slap!) edit2: Poor Igor is in ICU. Survived the retaking of the mine with about a pixels worth of health bar left. Fox used her last medpack to prevent him from bleeding to death. I need to get Ivan, his big brother, to look after him. Still trying to decide whether i should execute Pablo or not (the corrupt airport shipping guy), I seem to remember there being some benefit later on if you let him live (and steal from your shipments)

  22. For a cipher, you can consider a two hander, because nothing punches through DR better. You will hit massive damage numbers with biting whip. Also, with time parasite, a cipher can reach 0 recovery with a two hander, something only wizards can achieve. This allows you to wear heavier armor. Two handed weapons that stand out are llawran's stick and the Blade of Endless paths, since they both offer the attack speed enchantment. A cipher with durganized armor, a speed ecnhant durgan enchanted weapon, and gauntlets of swift action can hit zero recovery. With 16 dex you will hit almost 3 times faster. Staves also have the benefit of being a reach weapon so you can stand behind a tough guy and poke at enemies with it.

  23. The problem with that is, he's selective in what media he directs his ire towards (generally those who calls him out on his lies). I pity the US if they wake up some day and Fox News (or any of the the Murdoch Press owned garbage) is the only mainstream news channel, constantly parroting his words as if they had some kind of truth in them. Not going to invoke Godwins Law here, but use Italy as an example of how bad things can go when a rotten to the core populist is in bed with 90% of the media. As for injecting bleach and using hydroxychloroquine against Covid19.... I mean, if people are stupid enough to believe him, by all means, give those brave souls a Darwin Award. I only have one beef with it. The latter is a known treatment for other diseases and a rush on the stocks of something of no value to them whatsoever, could kill a lot of other people who legitimately need it, in the process. The stockpiling of toilet paper shows how intelligent the masses are sometimes.

  24. I agree with you completely, thelee. Ideally the game would be balanced in a way that doesn't sacrifice playability at any skill level. I find this discussion fascinating as it relates the metagame experience which I am only just beginning to understand. I also agree that fighter resource regen on interrupt is great for tactician. But this feature is also a bit mysterious. I try to interrupt with knockdown/mule kick when an opponent is beginning to activate an ability or spell. However, when the attack is successful and I knock them down, I do not always get discipline back. This may be due to timing, but it does not seem very reliable when attacking a single opponent. Needless to say, it clearly works better with AOE attacks, such as a mule kick with Citzal's. This points to what is probably an obvious point, that tactician is best in multiclass builds.

  25. They are not bad. Compared to Bittercut: slash damage vs. corrode/slash "only" 50% additive damage bonus on crit - while Bittercut gets +20% additive for all hit qualitities (except miss of course) and a +5% multiplicative lash if you enchant it with a corrosive lash) But the draining on Purgatory is nice indeed.

  28. A swashbuckler with Magran's Favor axe and Tuotilo's Palm buckler (and monastic Unarmed training) works well. Wear Gipon Prudensco with Flanking immunity and Deflection & Reflex bonuses. Entonia's Ring, Deflection Cloak. Pick Overbearing Guard to enjoy massive bonuses vs enemies who'd try to disengage you (+100% damage with +15 Accuracy). You can use the Bleeding Cuts modal for axe (a lot of damage as DoT) and Binding Block modal for buckler (+15 Accuracy when missed in melee), when you don't need high attack speed (or if you play Turn Based ). You'll get a decent number of Riposte attacks anyway - if you're attacked in melee. Stack Claim & Regret Bonus for +10% damage, Sash of Judgement Belt for another 10%. My Eder with that setup deals way higher damage then I thought possible for him. Frequently crits with Crippling Strike for 100+ damage main hand, +20-30 damage 1st Bleeding & Deep Wounds tick, sometimes +40 damage Magran's Favor proc, some 30-ish damage offhand. Not uncommon to do 200 damage per Full Attack. A MC can do considerably better (defense & Riposte-wise) by picking Trickster subclass due to its massive defensive buffs. Unbroken would also be good for this.

  29. Players who also know other, maybe even classless systems will like PoE's approach a lot more than players who got imprinted with D&D's restricted class system and didn't try much else. If your characters in PoE are not unique then it's due to lack of imagination, not lack of potential. At the same time D&D rogues are very different from D&D wizards, sure, but all D&D Rogues are very similar to each other while all D&D wizard are similar. In PoE a wizard may be a bit less distinguishable from a fighter (because less retrictions) but two wizards may be a lot more different from each other than in D&D. It's a matter of preference and those can be influenced by gaming experience. Usually a broader experience qualifies for a more informed judgement. But taste is taste and not really argueable.

  35. Hey everyone! As it's been a year since the release of Deadfire, we have come to the point of moving on to newer projects and ramped down the Deadfire staff as a result. We will no longer be fixing any issues we deem to be non-game breaking. At the moment, we are only aware of a few potential issues for some users that can prevent player progression and have come up with solutions to these issues. If we find that there are any progression breaking issues going forward that prevent gameplay, we will look into finding workarounds or potentially hot fixing them and adding those to this list. The following are the known issues and their workarounds. Players with general performance issues, freezes, or crashes, we have compiled a list of diagnostic steps that have worked to varying degrees for other users. You can find the list with some instructions listed below. Reduce graphics settings Restart game Delete or move excessive saves Disable Unity Console mod - if applicable Remove Unity Console mod - if applicable Verify Integrity of Game Files - Steam - GOG Reinstall Deadfire Change PhysX settings to GPU instead of Auto Install the Special K mod with recommended settings Update graphics drivers Update operating system Check for faulty RAM - Steps to do this can be found here Roll back graphics drivers Reinstall operating system Mac users who are having graphical issues where large sections of the map are white, it has been found that if you save the game and load the new save file, the map will go back to normal. Players have reported Nungata disappearing from Serpent's Crown and being unable to turn in quests. This is not a bug as she leaves the area during the quest The Final Maneuver and will return to her normal location when that quest is resolved. If you run into an issue different than the ones listed above that prevents you from being able to continue your adventure through the Deadfire, please feel free to let us know in an email and attach any screenshots, output_log.txt files, save files, and crash logs that may assist us in helping to resolve the issue. Should you need information on how to obtain those files, you can find instructions here. Please send these emails to support@obsidian.net and we will do what we can to get you back on track. We at Obsidian want to send our heartfelt thanks to this wonderful community for being so supportive of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire! We hope you will continue to enjoy Deadfire for many years to come and hope to see you in the next great Obsidian adventure!
