  1. Tom Hanks and his wife have tested positive for covid-19. Same goes for Justin Trudeu. I just hope Trump doesn't get the virus. I mean could you say at that point that the Chinese have assassinated Trump using bats? But yeah, I bought 2 months worth of cat food for my cats. I should be ok.

  8. Double post, but... I got inspired and checked the weather for tonight, looks like it'll be clear for once, so I might take inspiration from GD and relax away from everything for a couple of hours atleast and head into the woods, maybe bring some nice hotdogs and buns, some dry firewood, and head to the windshelter I built a couple of decades ago on a piece of promontory by the lake in the woods with my gramps. It's 15 days to go until it's been 20 years since he died, but the timing will be good.

  11. So like most people here I have played a lot of different builds and some of them were more fun than others. I have a couple of setups that I keep going back to, such as Devoted/Shattered Pillar with Lord Darryn's Voulge or Berserker/Shattered Pillar with Lord Darryn's Voulge, just because of how easy it is to mess up your enemy without too much micro. I also tried my hand on a Citzal's build, but the amount of buffing you needed to do ultimately had me stop playing it as it got boring. I've been meaning to try my hand on monk/anything together with the Karabörü to see how many strikes I could get for free with it. Sounds insane on paper where every crit can trigger another hit, but can also trigger a double hit from Karabörü. Also tried some casters and some single target hitters with paladins for instance. Classes which I liked the most: Cipher and Monk. I'm not going to say Fighter even though I fit it in for multi a lot. Even with all the fun I have with monks, barbarians and casters the most fun build I've tried so far was: Psyblade: Tactician/Ascendant It's almost completely self sufficient. It has infinite uses of fighter abilities and also cipher abilities. Gets lots of extra power levels for damage boosts. My level 20 pc deals over 500 raw damage on Disintigrate and over 140 blunt AoE with Amplified Wave. It's still viable melee (as I like it) and deals lots of single target damage. Usually fill up focus with 2 uses of Penetrating Strike. Early game using Mind Blades is just hillariously OP especially if you get brilliant inspiration plus ascended status. Dealing 40 damage to enemies 6 times when you're struggling to get exceptional or even fine gear? Yes please. I think using Monk will be "stronger" actually, but I wanted the Brilliant inspiration so I can go on forever without using empowers which is actually very easy to trigger with this build and since you can get it at very early levels it makes the build also very strong early game. Late game where you can use a secondary cipher to cast Ancestor's Memory on you makes the Tactician feel kind of meh, but it's still fun. I've been reading topics here on how Ciphers are very weak and such. But as far as I can see they are one of not the strongest class in the game, with the most amount of raw damage and AoE damage. CC for days, healing and granting brilliant inspirations all over the place. Plus if you kill anything you fear everything around you. Fun! So what's your most fun build that you've tried?

  16. You only listed melee weapons, is that a requirement for you ? Pistol modal gives you -15 Accuracy (easily canceled by the +12 accuracy from one-handed) and -50% recovery. Both Scordeo's Trophy and Thundercrack Pistol have crit synergies (more dmg or paralyze).

  18. Party composition: it's okay to go with the companions you like. Cipher profits from a high-defense Paladin in the late game as soon as the cipher can cast Defensive Mindweb. Priest makes every party better in general. But I also pick companions based on whom I like - even on Path of the Damned difficulty. Companions, classes and the game are pretty ballabced so there is no trap choice when it comes to party composition. Armor/weapons/items: no class ist restricted from wearing anything in PoE. You can wear plate or great swords etc. as a cipher or as a wizard or druid. The drawbacks (being slow) are the same for every class. Some classes have special talents/abilites for certain item groups though (e.g. Fighters have Armored Grace which reduces the slowdown from armor a bit and so on). Dual wielding lets you attack really fast (ot to be more precise: to shorten your recovery a lot) and thus it's actually rel. easy to reach zero recovery (aka attack like a sewing machine) in fat plate armor. For attack speed testing check this out: https://naijaro.github.io/poe-speed-calculator/ Ciphers have Time Parasite which is very powerful and it's easy to reach 0 recovery with it and dual wielding in thick armor. Stats can't be raised on level up. They are kind of fixed (except you can get some minor improvements from story talents). Items and buffs will raise them for you. I think for a first-time player I would do a rel., balanced apporach like so: MIG: 15 CON: 10 DEX: 15 PER: 15 INT: 15 RES: 08 This is with race and background points. You can easily shift some points up and down without braking anything. Attributes don't have tremendous impact on your performance like they have in some other systems. Talents and abilites (includes spells) are a lot more important. In PoE CC effects are very strong and accuracy is very important. If you can hit with a CC effect like Blind or even Charm the fights will be a lot easier. In order to do that you need to hit and for that you need accuracy. So take every opportunity to get more ACC and pick some strong CC abilites like Whisper of Treason, Mental Binding. One of the strongest cipher spells in a party is Amplified Wave in my opinion.

  21. Hi Boeroer, thanks! Yeah, I had read (from your posts ) about sabers being good. I vaguely remember way back when, that one of the things I most liked about PoE was that they really wanted to make DW useful. In most other games is something you know will make you pretty suboptimal compared to board and blade or 2H, if you want to DW 1H weapons, unless you're going daggers which I don't really like. I really only considered two "sword type" weapons, any other 2 combo looks dumb imho , well, axes is not bad though ... for a dwarven fighter. Although since you mention it, I'll try to get warhammers or clubs as backup for those slash immune enemies. I won't mind having to use a hammer and board for some specific fights if need be. Yep, I don't mind being squishier in the early game. I know I'll have to micro my character a bit more than if I was making a paladin or a ranger (that either go first or remain in the back), but I don't mind it. I was also thinking of opening with a range weapon while my tank goes in, to then go flank afterwards. At least in the early game. In that regard, do you have a recommended party composition? which companions would be best for a cipher of this type? In the end I normally use the companions I like lore wise that I think make sense for how I RP my character but it would be good to know what would be the most synergizing party comp. Same reason why I plan on doing a human or elf, orlans, godlikes and aumuas look godawful ugly to me) Yeah, that's another thing I've seen repeated for ciphers, about Mental Binding being really good, although not knowing anything about the game, it doesn't mean much to me... yet Haha, I'll use armor indeed. Are ciphers limited to light/medium armor or can they use plate? (is it even recommended for them to use plate?) since they are psyonichs and not mages I'm not really sure how that works or if it goes against dual wielding (than in most games tends to be based on DEX) In that vein... I wouldn't ask for a complete per level build since that is too much to ask. But could you help me with initial stat distribution, what to raise from then on, which talents/skills are important, etc? even a general idea would be wonderful since, as I said, for every intent and purpose, I know nothing about the game and how it works (like I wouldn't know how much is too much or too little resolve, con, etc). If I manage to understand it could be a new build up in the list since the ones that are there are pretty outdated (and there's no DW build I think) Wise words my friend, wise words indeed THANK YOU!

  22. Yeah, definitely a remarkable result, given what happened with/to Deadfire. I was fairly unimpressed with nearly all the stretch goals (excepting those regarding story, randomness and reactivity), but will be happy that they're there. Incidentally, I did not back the game -- I have never done that and cannot see myself doing it in the future, either. But I will almost certainly purchase it. As for the story and replayability of P:K, I am in total agreement with @Chilloutman. The writing in P:K was remarkably weak at times, and it doesn't really allow for proper replayability. I almost never replay anything, but I would still hold that P:K's replayability is weaker than average, simply because the quality of writing(*) tends to be poor. I have said this before, but what struck me the most was that some of the writing was so cheesy and silly that I was left wondering whether it was intended to be a parody or not. Like, are they making fun of stupid fantasy storytelling, or are they just engaging in it? I still don't know. (*) Heck, there were even problems with spelling and grammar!

  23. Yes, it grants an invisibility that does not break. The base duration is rather short so you need short recovery and lots of INT and other prolonging effects to make it really shine. A SC Streetfighter with Blunderbusses for example is also very well suited for Vanishing Strikes. He doesn't get Assassinate but will have very short recovery/reload and higher Sneak Attack dmg - which leads to even better results than with an Assassin. But only with Blunderbusses... Assassins are not about dps (unless you unlock Vanishing Strikes) but sneaky alpha strikes, then retreat. If you can't one- or two-shot enemies you should use Gouging Strike, Shadowing Beyond and retreat for de-aggro'ing and wait. One-shotting (weaker enemies) reliably usually takes an arquebus. It's very difficult to reliably one-shot enemies on PotD with a melee weapon. With an Assassin/Skaen you can try more strikes from invisibility until your victim's finally dead. Or an Assassin/Bloodmage with Arkemyr's Brilliant Departure. By the way a kind of funny "Assassin" is a Wizard/Cipher with Brilliant Departure + Disintegrate or SC Wizard with Concelhaut's Corrosive Skin. Last time I checked (some time ago though) pure DoTs with no initial direct damage didn't break the invisivbility from Brilliant Departure. Also Wall of Draining doesn't break it. You can stay invisible all the time while killing enemies with DoTs.

  29. repeat: for those wondering why people are making such a big deal over a virus which is only 10-20x more lethal than the seasonal flu *groan* please read. the chinese extreme efforts to contain is not an overreaction even if such measures were unnecessarily delayed. US, in particular, should be concerned by italy situation. in the States we got a high homeless population, high prison/jail population, and 90% of US hospitals were, before coronavirus, operating beyond capacity. our healthcare system relies on private and state more than fed, so a national disease threat is more difficult to respond to than would be the case in almost any european nation. our emergency responders is not national but rather is state and local, each with their own training and guidelines-- get all such folks equipped and acting as needed is a challenge. etc. again, am not suggesting panic, but the people who continue to be surprised by the concern from people such as dr. fauci is disappointing. you should be aware before you is dismissive. HA! Good Fun!

  30. The reaction to this is more dangerous than the virus itself and that is no easy task since it is no laughing matter. At least it shouldn't be but the extreme overreaction compared to others that have caused more damage is definitely lauaghable and dangerous.

  31. am knowing wild rice is healthy. healthier. unfortunate, our opinion is it tastes a bit like cardboard shavings. we typical make wild rice edible by adding to or covering up with other stuff, which shouldn't be the point. however, we have considered healthier alternatives to some o' our carb-heavy choices and while we ain't a fan o' wild rice, we would consider ways to make edible. got any prep suggestions? am told quinoa is kinda a super-food alternative to rice. in another thread we were joking 'bout omega 3 and quinoa, somewhat surprising, actual provides omega 3 in relative small amounts per oz, but it adds up if it becomes a dietary staple. is a seed and not a grain so is higher in protein than most rice alternatives. ... am not good 'bout eating foods which is good for us unless such foods is also good. period. can't bring our self to sacrifice taste for sake of health. got a similar pov 'bout health concerns in general, which is why am relative unaffected by stuff such as pandemics and whatnot. what is the point o' living healthy if it means we gotta be miserable 24/7? we inform and take steps to prevent endangering others, but we don't work self up over stuff which we cannot and/or will not change... save again for recognition that our own selfishness should not be allowed to endanger others. HA! Good Fun!

  37. actually, recent studies show much o' what older studies reveal: lack o' education and a collection o' fringe personality traits is most common predictors o' a belief in conspiracy theory. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/09/180925075108.htm https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/psych-unseen/201904/what-makes-people-believe-in-conspiracy-theories conspiracy theories is also more common for for losers. “Conspiracy theories are for losers,” says Joseph Uscinski, associate professor of political science at the University of Miami and co-author of the 2014 book American Conspiracy Theories. Uscinski stresses that he uses the term literally, not pejoratively. “People who have lost an election, money or influence look for something to explain that loss.” --from a time mag article from 2017. so, less educated schizoids (not necessarily clinical diagnosed schizophrenic, but those with schizophrenic traits) who is seeing selves as getting the fuzzy end o' the lollipop is, 'ccording to recent studies, the folks most likely to indulge in conspiracy theory nonsense, theories which necessarily depend on the absence o' evidence and/or comprehension to proliferate. listen to joe rogan talk with neil degrasse tyson regarding moon landing hoax. is surreal the ignorance o' rogan as he continues to explain why he believed in hoax... though we will note moon hoax is almost unique 'cause there is just so much evidence which clear refutes the hoax. ... is unlikely folks actual read articles, so will share our favorite line from the 2018 science daily offering: "Hart's study also showed that conspiracists had distinct cognitive tendencies: they were more likely than nonbelievers to judge nonsensical statements as profound (a tendency known as "BS receptivity")." so, "bs receptivity" is the clinical term? might need to use that one in the future. HA! Good Fun!

  40. I checked the convo files and it turns out that it's decided by global variables (n_Watcher_Ability_X_Aggressive, n_Watcher_Ability_X_Sassy and n_Watcher_Ability_X_Diplomatic) and won't necessarily correspond with Disposition icons! (Though they can be good indicators.) tl;dr is that you need at least 3/2/4 responses of your flavor of choice after Port Maje/Hasongo/Magran's Teeth, respectively. You then get the ability based on which flavor count is highest. If two flavors share the same count, Diplomatic takes precedence, then Sassy and last Aggressive. So you have to look out for other flavors as well. Post Port Maje Ire of Death's Herald (Might) : At least 3 Aggressive responses, more than Sassy and Diplomatic ones. Wit of Death's Herald (Intellect) : At least 3 Sassy responses, more than Diplomatic and not fewer than Aggressive. Mien of Death's Herald (Perception) : At least 3 Diplomatic responses and not fewer than Aggressive and Sassy. Post Hasongo + Might : At least 2 Agressive responses, more than Sassy and Diplomatic ones. + Intellect : At least 2 Sassy responses, more than Diplomatic and not fewer than Aggressive. + Perception : At least 2 Diplomatic responses and not fewer than Aggressive and Sassy. Post Magran's Teeth + Might : At least 4 Agressive responsesand more than both Sassy and Diplomatic ones. + Intellect : At least 4 Sassy responses, more than Diplomatic and not fewer than Aggressive. + Perception : At least 4 Diplomatic responses and not fewer than Aggressive and Sassy.
