  1. Download the RPG Maker and click some stuff together. Build a small prototype - as small as possible and then go from there. Once that is done, you can start thinking of custom engines and whatever else. It doesn't make sense thinking about such stuff if you don't even know the basics yet.

  2. I'm currently in the ~past six months vs. today mode... So for the past six months, I've been slowly learning how to do 3d character art. Started with daz studio, now slowly taking the next step with Marvelous Designer et al to do some more Cyberpunk-y gear for my characters. Steep learning curve as I have no background for this kind of stuff whatsoever, but I've been enjoying it so far. Too bad most of the software costs so much I can't afford it (cough, zbrush) even with lawyer salaries, so I have to use stuff apparently designed by aliens (Blender) which lacks some newbie-friendly features (IMM brushes). Sigh.

  3. It's typical capitalist hogwash. Shifting the blame to consumers lets businesses elude any responsibility in failure and allows them to continue as before. An example: plastics. Consumer‑side habits changing is laughably insufficient to save us from being buried under veritable megatons of plastic garbage. But there's a disproportionate emphasis on that, instead of legislating plastics away where possible. Now, be a dear and buy these microtransactions. You don't want to make the board sad, do you?

  5. This is probably only interesting to me, but I found an old map of where descendants of Norwegians are situated in the US. There is a saying here about there being more Norwegians in the US than in Norway, and apparently it's true. It's a bit amusing that so many decided they liked the cold, that they again went for the North. However that's apparently where you could find cheap land at the time. Norway was very poor in those times, had a huge percentage of its population move there. This also lead to Norwegian workers in their homecountry getting reasonable wages again due to now having a smaller work force. My own great-grandfather went to New York, and one of his sons stayed there, whereas my own grandfather returned to Norway. So there's a seperate branch of my family living in New York. I was invited to visit them when I was in New York ten years ago, but I chickened out, being of course Norwegian and thus socially awkward.

  9. Recently got a new job. Now I can walk 15 minutes to my new workplace, as opposed to a one hour drive with the bus. I wish I was asked what my favorite pasta was though. I detest generic job interviews, and feel like they (often) say something about the person interviewing you. I rejected a job offer recently because I got a bad feeling on the boss lady, it felt like she had just googled "job interview questions", and asked the ten first ones she found. She came across as really dull, and in my experience places with dull/bad leaders also have similar work environments.

  10. I've been yelling this from the mountain top for years. At this point, however, I'd rather it wasn't Bioware developing it, on account of their recent track record. It doesn't necessarily have to be Jade Empite 2: The Jadening, I just want a good wuxia RPG. And just to add another controversial opinion: If another RTwP RPG was never made, I would lose zero sleep.

  11. I changed a bit my mind about this. All Tier 3 Inspirations are not equal. Robust sounds really better than Courageous that doesn't upgrade that much compared to Tier 2 Resolve Finally, I changed Robust from Greater Lay on Hand to 10s. This isn't exactly twice the effect of Lay on Hand due to initial tick and worse PL scaling (Greater Lay on Hand is a Tier III ability), but I think it's good enough considering Robust also comes with AR and CON buff. Hands of Light is buffed to 15s. It might not be as universally useful, but still good enough if you want to prevent a frontliner from being interrupted. It is still the only ability of the game that does this. Apart for this, I didn't make much changes, but I had to take time to clean up what I previously did. The Mod files are now much lighter, in order to avoid conflict with other mods. I also corrected the description, but in english only... I don't plan to make a multi-languages mod for the moment. Even if I do, I can only do it for French, Spanish, Polish and Russian by my own means. I had to re-test everything, so I think I will avoid dirty programming next time. It ultimately costs time ! 12. Started gaming again a couple of weeks ago, after an almost 3,5 year break! So far the most enjoyable thing has been the replaying of the Criminal Past DLC for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (one of the few things I had played during the break, but not getting to really enjoy it properly). It's really, really good. It's funny how they managed to do some of the most "deus ex" areas (palisade bank, PenT House), yet managed to make most of the main game side quests feel like cubicle slavery. I still think the main game was heavily cut in a final rush, even the loading screen suggests an element of the game that is pretty much just hinted at in the final product.

  13. I have just completed Act II in Pillars of Eternity. The Animancy hearing did not end up like I was anticipating, but we have more things to do now, because new areas opened up. I have also visited the Craghold Bluff for few minutes, but left very soon, after my ass was kicked so badly that I ran away faster than you say "Reload" Also, The Endless Paths are cleared up to level 12. 3 more to go, but I had a little bit rough times at level 12, so I've decided to postpone venturing deeper. For now. Now I just have to decide, if I will go to Twin Elms, or go back to White March and continue with the Part II of the expansion...

  17. Yeah, I vaguely remember somebody making that exact same argument before. It was thoroughly refuted then, and I have little desire to revisit that discussion. Especially since you apparently refuse to accept the fact that there is an inextricable bond between politics and economics. This is the equivalent of discussing physics with someone who rejects Newton's laws.

  20. I was under the impression that Raskolnikov killed the money lender because "he could", figured he was an übermensch of sorts and thus, in a position to decide over the life of an old woman who in his eyes brought nothing of value. The money he got was a bit of a vehicle for the grand deeds he'd accomplish and the people he'd aid which would more than justify murder. The money was a classic macguffin. And yes, most humans throughout history have lived under one empire or another. They were all brutal, but not all were capitalist in a modern sense. If you're suggesting that you can separate capitalism from imperialist brutality by pointing at pre-modern empires that weren't capitalist, you'll find that no capitalist societies exist that aren't imperialistic, or otherwise exist under and benefit from the superstructure of an empire. Which will undoubtedly be brutal.

  21. Do we really though? There are many here and elsewhere who want the government to provide cheaper healthcare and education through raised taxes, which is fully possible without abandoning a capitalist system - but I don't see many people who genuinly defend communism? Except the occational oddball every now and then.

  26. I watched the extended directors cut of SUICIDE SQUAD again. I still enjoyed it even though its a mess of a story. I think all the characters are well done even they dont all pay off. Saw BIRDS OF PREY. Enjoyed it, though I think there's a section in the middle where it drags a bit.

  27. Classes are already pretty balanced in the original game, and Community Patch already helped a bit too. So now it's about caring about abilities themselves, emphasizes some aspects of the classes that aren't as nice as they could be (such as Paladin's commands). A couple of subclasses also need a little "care" (I already "cared" about Troubadour). Cipher is not my priority for the reasons you mentionned, but I already have a short list of abilities that I plan to change or buff. Haunting Chain is indeed among them. My current plan : - Tenuous grasp -> set to 2.0s recovery, to be used as a chep enabler (eat that quick -20 Will). - Fractured Volition -> Change Weakened for Enfeebled. Enfeebled is a pretty rare Affliction, and I think it would work well as a Single Target Debuff - Haunting Chain -> Duration 20s to 40s (?). It would be an extremely potent Single Target CC. Note that even a Resolve Resistant boss would suffer from it cause Frightened is very strong debuff on its own. Frightened is also easier to actually use in battle than Charmed. - Soul Ignition : this one is basically poor man's disintegrate. Probably going to change target defense to Will for variety, and might tweak it for an extremely long DoT with rather low damages to differentiate with Disintegrate. EDIT : Oh and I forgot to mention I also plan to tweak Wild Mind to something actually usable. Basically turning Miscast into foe-only (nice for Witch builds) but greatly reducing its damages. Not sure Mind Plague or Time Parasite are that much in need of a fix, but it's good to know anyway.

  29. Ciphers This might be off-topic since single class Ciphers are already insanely gratifying to play, but something needs to be done about Haunting Chains. It's a spell that fills no purpose; it costs 3x as much Focus as Secret Horrors, which is far more effective at breaking down enemy defenses since late game Ciphers will only target Will and Fortitude, and is an AoE. If you want to single out a specific enemy from far away, you have Puppet Master, another spell with ⅓ of Haunting Chains' focus cost except a far more potent affliction. The only scenario where Haunting Chains is better is if you face a big target that's immune to Intellect Afflictions but not Resolve Afflictions... but if a single enemy bothers you that much you might as well just put Disintegration + Stasis on them. I personally have no clue what to do about it other than decreasing its Power Level (lol). But I think that would cause issues for ongoing playthroughs. It's just such a fundamentally ****ty spell for its power level, anyone got any ideas? Speaking of Ciphers, I noticed Mind Plague and Time Parasite bounces has NoRepeatTargets set to false, which I think is disadventageous since you want to hit as many different targets as possible with affliction spells. Though the current behavior gives you a chance to roll higher on old targets, of course. What's everyone's opinion on this?

  30. Can endorse RPG Maker as a starter option, or even the Neverwinter Nights games if you'd like. For the former, there's even several resources and tilesets you can use to make a more Western-looking isometric RPG if you so wish, which you can find at their official site.

  35. Moral gray areas in games are a lie. Trying to give players two equally valid moral sides (NCR vs Caesar's Legion for example. Or Jedi vs Sith) has never worked, as the sides have never been equally valid. It all is a result of ingrained post-WWII propaganda, from when certain governments found themselves needing to make acceptable that they were supporting Nazi collaborators/organizations in various countries.
