  1. Ashen. Founded the town. The first and so far the only character with facial details. Not a bad thing, but it is an interesting design decision. The second boss defeated, fast travel unlocked. These things can use ladders. Amiren, attempt #1. Amiren, attempt #2. Success.

  2. This has to be the single worst 'January' of my life. Come on! It's my birthday on 27th. Can't even have a decent moment of peace in this godforsaken country. If this regime has showed anything to the world, it's that it isn't afraid of killing its own people, since 1700+ Iranians have died by the hands of our dear government in the past 3 months. So, in conclusion: dear Trump, the next time you are trying to avoid impeachment, try and put the spotlight on any country but Iran. These people are nuts...

  3. It if makes you feel better the vast majority of people in North America who deal with Iranians on a regular basis have nothing but positive experiences with them. One of my best friends through high school was Persian and about the only thing he did that could be remotely construed as vaguely pro-Iran was him curling his lip at the depiction of Persians in <<300>> and even I shared that sentiment. In college I had an Iranian roommate (as in he had emigrated from Iran) and had spotted me watching a documentary on Ruhollah Khomeini and the Iran-Iraq War and said to me "Why are you watching something about that a**hole?", and while at parties he could go at length about how crooked the Pasdaran and the Basij were. Trump often accuses other countries of "not sending their best and brightest" to the US, but in the case of the Iranians this simply wasn't true; I was at my cousin's Computer Science graduation at UCLA and you would go through several minutes hearing nothing but Persian last-names.

  7. I for one wish we didn't spend that kind of money outside of the coutnry because we need it ourselves. Too many people dealing with poverty because of this issue. The main problem here are Russia and China. You always have to aske yourself: 'where do the hardliners get their support?' China is exchanging oil for chinese products right now(no money or $ involved) with the Iranian government. So long as they have the Iranian regime covered, this ordeal is going to continue. But perhaps the horrifying fact here is that both China and Russia would even benefit more if Iran went to a war with the U.S. That would be the end of both Iran and the U.S, considering how much they could both lose while China and Russia get the upper hand.

  9. Summarized on reddit: "US kills Soleimani after Iranian-backed militias try to pull off Benghazi 2.0. Iran's response? (1) January 7: During the funeral for Soleimani, in the midst of burning American flags and speakers touting the impending destruction of the United States of America, a panic-driven stampede kills 56 people and injures 200 in Kerman. (2) January 8: Iran's "hell on Earth" response against the U.S. (Operation Martyr Soleimani) is ultimately a very mild airstrike against U.S. bases with no casualties. Even radical Iranians are left confused at the extremely tepid "retaliation." The Ayatollah's threat of Washington in flames winds up being the most anti-climactic moment in world history since the end of Kill Bill Volume 2. (3) January 8: After Rouhani condemned the U.S. for its downing of Iran Air Flight 655 on January 6, Iran goes oopsie daisy and shoots down a plane - Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 - killing 176 people, 147 of whom were Iranians, in the process. (4) January 8: After the airplane goes down, Iran gets extra silly, immediately puts out a statement within 30 minutes of the crash that says, "It was a technical issue. Nothing to see here. Move along now" which immediately makes everyone twice as skeptical. (5) January 9: The U.S. ultimately responds by announcing even tougher economic sanctions against Iran...and Tehran doesn't respond, ending the 3 day brawl with an embarrassed Iran, 200+ dead Iranians, 0 killed by the U.S., and now Iran can no longer crow about Iran Air Flight 655 for another 3 decades without reminding their own citizens they killed 176 innocent people, mostly Iranians, due to a freak accident while trying to make a flex on the world stage." I, uh, guess Trump wins this one? Somewhat accidentally? Alright, I guess. Still bad to murder people in other people's airports, especially after asking them to come into talks with you, but this was an incredibly weak response. Maybe there's something to the "lunatic leader is intimidating" factor...

  10. Since so few people read articles it should probably be said that he was looking to beef up support from [Graham types] whom he needed rather than doing it as a direct Wag the Dog type distraction*. That was perhaps balanced by the extremely liberal definition of 'imminent threat' that was used- which turns out to be 'might do something unspecified at some equally unspecified point in the future'- and which actually seem to have annoyed some other R senators. Trump's claims of multiple embassies being targeted is pretty clearly a load of old bollocks. 2nd one has been known for a while as he was initially and briefly reported as having been killed, but then it got rather swamped by Soleimani being targeted. There was even a suggestion that Soleimani was only targeted because their first target was missed. And in further unsurprising news Pompeo says that the US won't leave Iraq even if told to. *The rumour I'd heard previous was that Pompeo pushed hard to hit Soleimani, and Trump wanted to give him a win to stop him resigning. Could very easily be a combination of both.

  13. You know, this would be a perfectly reasonable approach and one that I would applaud, if only you did not, at the same time, make very strongly-worded arguments based on what you call your "intuition" and which you yourself admit have no data whatsoever to back them up. So you're playing game of contradiction here, or trying to play with two sets of cards at the same time (however you want to put it), and you've been strangely unwilling to own up to it -- while at the same time reacting to others with blatant and unfounded arrogance. So you don't look good in this, if I may be so bold as to point it out to you. It is entirely possible that other people have a scientific background as well. Perhaps they even work at important scientific institutions and so forth. But they don't feel that waving that card does anybody any favors.

  14. Going through the campaign in Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 with a friend. I've been waiting for a tactical spaceship game with co-op since Starfleet Command 2. I'm finding a disturbing lack of over-the-top voice acting for a 40k product, so far. Gameplay wise it's entertaining enough, but I'm still learning the ropes.

  16. "Meant?" That argument doesn't fly, and for a very simple reason. You have to metagame (i.e. read spoilers) before you can know that the southern entrance to Gorecci Street is a lot safer. To the extent that anything in a computer game is "meant", you are certainly not "meant" to metagame, you are "meant" to figure out stuff on your own. The digsite battle was very difficult for me. It was only after finishing the game that I learned that it's not mandatory: if you sneak into the caverns and find the guy whose research you're looking for, you can bypass the entire battle. I'm very happy that I didn't know about that when actually playing the game.

  18. Just a minor complaint : toughened fury is listed as 25% chances in the patch change list, but is only 20% in both in-game description and in the patch file. Not that it makes a big difference, the change is still very good. I suppose there won't be any further changes anyway. Can anyone confirm ? Boeroer ?

  19. Shadow was probably the first Steam game I ever bothered to refund. It should be noted this isn't because I thought it "sucked" - per usual, I'm not willing to judge based on less than 2 hrs. But early on it felt focused more on flash than gameplay, I didn't like the controls, jumping/other mechanics (felt inconsistent), or the gameplay camera. I even disliked the main menu. Anyway I decided it wasn't even a "maybe one rainy day" so I refunded. I was also a big fan of the original TR series but every game or reboot beyond the original series I've liked less and less - Shadow was the first one I tried since maybe ... (looks up a list) ... Anniversary, I think.

  21. Zaimos Curi Race: Island Amauna Class: Rogue Culture: the Living Lands Background: Scientist Zaimos Curi started out a small time thief who was not the most cruel and uncaring thief but did what was necessary to make a living. He was relatively intelligent and good with picking locks and looking into the mechanism of booby traps and disarming them. He was also clever and brought a rationale approach to matters. He became a friend and lover of another Amauna named Saebat Holai but she was not a thief and was instead a scientist studying the relationship between plants and animals and the soul magic of animancy. She wasn’t to any degree awakened or sensitive to soul magic but rather she was collaborating by writing correspondence and reading/research to other scientists or animancers and studying to find any animancy relationship to conventional categorizing and physiological biology of animal, plant, and mushroom organisms including mystical beasts. Zaimos found he had a knack for science in particular building apparatus using his mechanics skill and he also pitched in to contemplate matters of reading research findings and case studies. And finally research demands money and materials including rare reagents and as a thief he could contribute there as well. Eventually his love died of a sickness and rather than try to continue her project in the Living Lands he elected to travel to Dyrwood Caravan and restart his life there. He is wounded from his loss of his love and still is neither cruel or uncaring but also not the most benevolent and honest and is more self centered on becoming powerful and wealthy and falls in with the Doemenels but again he is really not cruel and not at all sadistic. ——————————————————- Stats so far (assuming I remember correctly and don’t make error): Rogue Level 10 Might 17, Constitution 10, Dexterity 12, Perception 16, Intellect 13, Resolve 10 Skills: Stealth 1, Athletics 1, Lore 2, Survival 1, Mechanics (everything else) Back row Gun switching fighter and after 2 guns are shot off then can switch to one handed (two melee slots options so can hit through immunities) of vulnerable targets but try to avoid being targeted himself. A glass cannon type. 4 total weapon slots. 1: Blinding Strike 2: One Handed Style 3: Dirty Fighting 4: Vicious Fighting 5: Escape 6: Quick Switch 7: Crippling Strike 8: Arms Bearer 9: Withering Strike 10: Weapon Focus Ruffian Plan for future?: 11: Deathblows (a full party helps enemies have multiple status afflictions)? 12: Shadowing Beyond? 13: Smoke Cloud? 14: Backstab? 15: Feign Death? 16: Enigma’s Charm? 23. I have arrived some time ago into White March expansion of the Pillars of Eternity. The expansion is little bit harder than anticipated, but still doable First I have saved the Village of Stalwart from big bad Ogres and then, I have run around and tried to get as many quests I could, today I have entered the Russetwood and I almost get wiped out, thankfully I survived with my main character with probably 10 health or so . So far I am satisfied with the expansion

If Crackling Bolt is affected by Penetrating Shot it's shame that Iconic Projection isn't. I guess it's because fixed damage vs 25% DR.

Dogs Prefer to Poo Along a North-South Axis " Researchers have found that dogs use Earth’s magnetic fields to align their bowel and bladder movements - and they prefer to relieve themselves along a north-south axis. 27. Pillar of Faith? Interesting! Those spells all do single target dmg only so I guess it's maybe not worth it if you don't want to take it for your weapon anyway. But good to know. If there was an AoE spell that accidentially worked with Vulnerable Attack - that would be really neat.

  32. A big thumbs up to the devs for including Tomb Raider 2 Lara with my beloved blue tank top and khaki shorts (also available is the bomber jacket outfit): And also Angel of Darkness Lara: The character model even appears in cutscenes: Her facial expression doesn't change nor do her lips move with the OG models, which is super hilarious at first, but after the novelty wears off it just makes the cutscenes kind of creepy and awkward. I'll switch to a Nu Lara model to play through the campaign then switch to OG Lara once I'm done and just cleaning up challenge tombs, collectibles, challenges, etc. I'm still hoping I can get the classic blue tank top and khaki shorts outfit for Nu Lara, either as an unlock in the game or via a mod.

  33. First off, in general, in most developed or developing countries, successive generations are more numerically literate than previous generations. Second off, the kids are alright. Third, doesn't explain why games like P:K do well. If anything, like I brought up in another thread, Deadfire is better than PoE1 here because so much more of the system is rationalized, there's less murk, there's a slower pace to combat, and encounters are less trashy and you have less party members to worry about. So this can't explain a massive sales drop. I think if we want to go down this route, it's not the numeracy, but the fact that (as has been mentioned by some developer--possibly JE Sawyer) that RTSes aren't nearly as prevalent these days as back in the late 90s/early 2000s, so people just aren't used to the style of gameplay that RTwP is, and the context that it lives in makes less sense. But even here it doesn't explain a drop-off from a million+ sales, I think it only serves to explain why it's hard to grow your audience or find a new, less nostalgia-focused audience and therefore makes the case that RTwP is a niche genre now.

  35. I also don't appreciate Full VO. For me it adds nothing to a game. I couldn't care less if it's all voiced or not. Honestly it's more likely that I get annoyed because the VO is messing with me reading the text. I like reading text. And books. Full VO in RPGs with lots of text is like reading a book while listening to the audiobook at the same time.
    1 point
  36. It all depends on your definition of "meaningful." I think Obsidian is a little lazy in relying on end-game slides too much instead of in-game reactivity (this criticism is leveled more significantly at The Outer Worlds), but there's a lot that can change a long the way, even if the ultimate result is the same. BTW (there may be more since I tend to do very similar things near the end-game), the biggest thing that I surprised myself into recently is: By the way, the latter part of that is another instance of me hating on full VO. It was very obvious that they voice actor(s) they re-obtained were recorded under different circumstances because those sequences sound very different than the rest of the interactions.

  38. The devs were really cool about it, but people saying the game is too short haven't played the game in my estimation. When I completed the end mission I had well over 60 hours in. I did complete all the side, faction and space missions prior to launching the final main mission, so that added to the time. I'm pretty sure the folks doing the speed runs are playing the game for many hours figuring out how to cut time off before they post an actual speed run. Even if somebody just did the main story missions I can't imagine it would be any less than 10-15 hours, and I'm talking a normal playthrough, not one where the goal is speed. This game is all about character interaction and reading all the comm selections before deciding on one, reading all the logs and reports on the terminals, taking in all the NPC conversations, etc. I guess people have to complain about everything these days, but to say this game is short doesn't make sense.
    1 point
  39. But as the developers pointed out how many times did the person have to play through to figure out how to optimize that route to be able to get to the point where he could do that? I think this game can be short or you can easily sink 50 hours into a play through. I did respect the developers reaction to watching that speed run.

  42. I have many, many problems with this game but I never felt like it was particularly short or anything. Of course, I didn't expect anything like NV or any other open world game because... well, they said that's not what it was going to be beforehand. Good length for a game as far as I'm concerned.

  43. While I still enjoy Bethesda's RPGs, they aren't really all that complex and their base games are usually broken messes. They tend to rely heavily on community mod support to fix the issues in each game. Outer Worlds is more comparable to games like ME1 -- a team size that isn't too large and a game that is more focused in scope. In that regard, Outer Worlds fits with that level of time-to-complete, which for me was around 40 hours, and that was with doing everything and finding all unique items. If you choose to just rush the main story, then of course you'll be disappointed, hell, Fallout 3 can be beaten in just 15min if you really try. There's also the matter of replayability as choices can actually matter in Outer Worlds and the writing is significantly better than what goes into the Bethesda RPGs. I'm just waiting for a patch to fix a few things before I start a new run, but with bugs specifically, there's really not many. On the other hand, if this were to be Skyrim pre-update2, I would have already come across a myriad of issues (which I did back when I played Skyrim in that state). Though now that Outer Worlds is complete and released, a sequel / expansion should be easier as the bulk of what's needed is done -- the universe, lore, base-gameplay, and tone. Anything new would have that solid foundation to work off of, and they'll be going in with much better funding.

  44. This was a better game than Skyrim and FO3/4 but not by very much. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed in Obsidian, but not surprised, this is what happens when you are beholden to some giant corporations to make your product a reality. Just look at the splash screens for a hint at some of the committee that had to be satisfied with every part of this game before they'd risk their release.
