  2. Excuse some indulgent self quoting. and Long story short: better than DA:I by a long shot. Better questing, classless levels, more interesting setting (though I didn't love it as much as many), and much more varied play styles. The negatives are mostly due to budget like stiff animations, some stilted English vo (French studio), and a fair bet of backtracking.

  3. So I quit and am uninstalling the game. Here is the second feedback post I made on the Snapshot forum. And it is something I can't skip around, an ethical block I have I can't break for a silly game: I started the game with a bit of trepidation but also looking forward to the tension between factions. I expected hostilities would translate into raids, stealing resources, sabotaging structures, destroying aircraft. Then Synedrion went to war against New Jericho. A Synedrion death squad attacked a New Jericho haven in North America and murdered all 7500 inhabitants. With infiltrators and snipers, the haven inhabitants hadn’t even noticed they were under attack until people started dropping dead left and right. They panicked and tried to run, tried to hide. But Synedrion infiltrators appeared out of nowhere and shot them as they ran. The civilians were herded into the power station, locked in and the generators rigged to explode. Boom. 7500 humans killed. New Jericho of course retaliated. Synedrion families were hiding in basements, but the New Jericho soldiers just hosed every hole they could see with flame throwers. By the time Phoenix Project strike teams returned from defending havens from Pandoran attacks in Europe and clearing out a lair in southern Asia, over 30.000 people had been slaughtered across America and Australia. And the death squads were already attacking other havens. And the leaders send me messages as if we were allies? Where is the option to arrest them and put them on trial for war crimes? Or send in a strike team and execute them? They order the systematic slaughter of children. I don’t want to play with these factions. I just want to shoot their leaders.

  4. Hm, I kinda prefer it that way to the "WOW guys! Check THAT out! AWESOME! Yeah!!" fake style so frequent in YouTube LPs. In fact, I prefer when the player is completely mute, but if they have to speak, I prefer when they talk like a normal, not high on speed person. I think the "bored" vibe is mostly coming from the way you sometimes speak while audibly inhaling/exhaling, with the cadence possibly affected by looking for the right words? I've had people tell me I sound exasperated over VoIP because I tend to do that too.

  5. I do sort-of the same, except I try to treat my Windows machine as a "console" (aka. gaming only) and use "open" operating systems (GNU/Linux, *BSD) for everything else (that isn't work, because there I don't get to choose, sadly).

  6. I, for one, am somewhat happy that such direct interactions between factions exist at all. Still they seem to be in an awkward spot, where they are not abstracted enough to be a sidecontent, but aren't nuanced and fleshed out enough, to be insteresting or not weird - by that meaning the previous post about genocide, and system doesn't support anything beyond removing the haven entirely. My hope is that Gollop's early references to PP being Paradox-like strategy game, is that with DLCs they plan to work on, and expand the base game as well. However, considering that previously fix bugs reappeared for 1.0 release, because of lack of time to refix them, doesn't inspire confidence in Snapshot team gaving enough man power to support and expand the game. Still, as a backer, there is nothing for me, but wait and hope for the best. The air-combat DLC is something that could tie to faction map movement. We will see. I have been thinking about the game, ever since I stopped playing, and I think my singular biggest design complain is lack of system interaction - any good systemic game needs systems to interact with each other, creating predictable but interesing results and allowing for player expression. That is part of UFO that Firaxis remake ditched almost entirely, in favour of more gamey/controlled experience. What most disappointed me with PP, is that in spite of core complicated mechanics (inventory system, ballistic system) I can't say I have seen the game provide more depth then FiraXCOM. Ballistic system alone, is something the entire game should be built around, and I don't think that is the case. Sure, bullets are traced, but I didn't see much when it comes to interesting decisions to make or interactions. There are nice things about this system, like individual bullets being accounted for, but other then that, the game seems to be designed with the same depth of interaction as FiraXCOM. The individual part system didn't impress me either, and I found FiraXCOMs (or at least LongWar) implimentation of skills like suppression, flashbangs etc. to be a more effective decisionmaking process, then what body part to shoot. What I have been also missing, is a choice of items that would allow us to expand our strategies. Where are shields or deployable covers? Smoke granades? Items to allow traversal, beyond jetpack (you could have stuff like grappling hook, to allow characters to create their own climbing spots, as building are limited when it comes to enterances)? Breaching charges, mines. With flexible inventory system, there is so much once could do, to take full advantage of game's systems.

  7. My "solution" was to build a new Win10 rig for modern things/games that require it but keep the Win7 rig for anything that doesn't, including old games and email. After deleting bloatware and going through all the option checkmarks, I haven't had issue with constant Win10 messages/popups either. So far I delay updates as long as it allows (which is pretty long, I haven't done any updates for 4 months) and deal with such only once or twice a year that way. The only O/S reaction to delaying updates that I've had is the small icon in the tray with a red ! on it. :P

  8. i was looking forward to this game and its practically unplayable for me. i dont want to look above everything i need to interact with, i dont want to be looking at the sky to land a headshot. i want to look at things the way i have been for the past 10 years. the fact you chose a lowered crosshair with no option to change is is beyond baffling to me.

  10. Ha! In all serious folks, I absolutely love the work Obsidian do. Fallout New Vegas and KOTOR2 are up there with my favourite games of all time, and I am currently addicted to The Outer Worlds. The charm and personality that's being injected into Obsidian games is just phenomenal of late. Watched the trailer for Grounded and now i have to go get myself an xbox (steadfast ps4 gamer here) Anyways thought I might share a link to some of my Outer Worlds fan art and there's also a link to my core art account as well if folks are interested. Excited to be on the forums https://www.instagram.com/theouterworldsadventures/ https://www.instagram.com/craig_bruyn/

  15. At any rate I appreciate getting out of the police station and out in the streets of Raccoon City (even if Jill does spend a spell inside of RPD headquarters; developers after all capitalise on re-using old assets whenever they can) so that the player can appreciate the scale of the zombie apocalypse. RE2 Remake gave us a tantalizing view of that in the intro, but sadly still confined its scope to no more than two city blocks.
    1 point
  16. Well, RE3 *was* more action-oriented than previous titles of the franchise. For me it was pretty much the beginning of the downfall, because it was clear from then on it'll be more and more shooting stuff and less of what RE1 was.
    1 point
  17. I've heard some indication that this will be a more action-oriented entry, which is more my speed to be honest. Combine the atmosphere of the RE2 remake with a well-made zombie shoot-'em up and lose the Myst puzzles and I'm on board.

  19. Well brain can be trained, and the easiest way how to learn foreign language, is to learn it while having some fun. I basically learned German by watching my favourite cartoons in German language, when I was a kid, and I have learned a lot of English from Daggerfall and Baldur’s Gate wall of texts. If you would ever decide to give it a try, maybe if some of your favourite games have option to switch to German language with English subtitles (at least for me I feel, like German language is closest to English, but other people might have similar or better experience with other languages e.g Spanish, you never know before you try ) , could be helpful to adjust your brain better to foreign language.

  20. Just being multi-lingual is impressive to me. My brain simply cannot into other languages.

  22. Some active attack speed bonuses don't stack (like potion of Alacrity wouldn't stack with Lightning Strikes. Same with Frenzy from Sanguine Plate with Lightning Strikes). But passives always stack and stuff from weapons also. If you want a relly good visual tool to see what certain abilites and items will do for you in PoE then use this handy thing here that @MaxQuest made: https://naijaro.github.io/poe-speed-calculator/ It's accurate and very helpful. if you combine certain buffs there and the action/recovery bar only blinks (refreshes) but doesn't really change then those things don't stack. Noteworthy speed buffs that stack with everything: Dual Wielding*, Two Weapon Style, DEX, Zahua's passive Anitlei, Gauntlets of Swift Action, speed enchantment on weapons, Durgan Steel on weapons and shields, Armored Grace. The rest will stack with those but not necessarily with each other (as I said: Frenzy + Swift Strikes). Just play around with it. )*actually dual wielding doesn't give you a bonus but one single handed weapon or two handers give you a "hidden" penalty.
    1 point
  23. Yes they stack. Follow up with Long Stride so u can hit the enemy rear positions and instantly take out his casters. Lightning strikes and the absolute that adds %bonus to lightning and watch them die quickly. Wear no or very light armor to keep the speed. Which will dRaw enemy attacks resulting in wounds to fuel your swift/lightning strikes. Veteran’s Recovery and a good healing item like Fulvano’s Amulet or Belt of Bountiful Healing and you become quite the whirlwind of destruction. Use stilettos against enemies that don’t have high pierce DR so you can utilize Azureth’s Stilletto that profs Jolting Touch. Name your character the Sizzler....

  27. More Pillars of Eternity. I have finished two sidequests around Gilded Vale and unlocked few discounts that way. I have also died two times, when fighting against pack of two enemies which were to high level for me The third attempt after running around the whole Black Meadow map were successful, but still very close to death, especially my Eder tank was very close The reward was Fine Wand at the altar and few other thingies Aloth was amused If you do not have anything better to do, you can listen to my horrible Slavic accent here (3 videos uploaded so far in the playlist )

  28. This. I loved Athkalta, but I also really liked Trademeet. I actually didn't even uncover it until a later run, because I only did a subset of the stronghold and stronghold-adjacent quests at first. I was actually blown away that there was so much to do there, a whole market (with unique-to-Trademeet items, whereas small towns in like BG might not have anything going for them in terms of vendors), the elven chain mail, and getting the statues was also real great. And yeah, questlines that I didn't even realize had continuations into Trademeet (like the whole tannery business from the Bridge District). Really, BG2 did a lot of things great with area design. No wonder it blew out BG in sales (and all other IE games).

  30. Tonight I quit the game not to go to bed, as I did the other nights, but because I felt there was no point playing. I wrote some feedback on the snapshot forum and will copy paste it here: The name "Phoenix Point" creates expectations of the game. A world devastated by a deadly virus, overrun by lovecraftian, mutated monsters, the name suggests an initiative that aims to see humanity rise like the phoenix from the ashes. And it suggests that the game will be about this attempt. You are put in charge of the Phoenix Project and start discovering it's history. But you don't actually get to be the Phoenix Project. You read well written exposition about it, but the actual gameplay isn't about it: You recruit soldiers from the three major factions, who have split the world between them. Neutral havens are extremely rare. In the backer builds this was different and it created a different feel. In the launch game you are thrust into a world of three huge nations. So you get your personnel from them. You also get your tech from them. You have a research lab, but all you independently research is journal entries with Phoenix Point exposition. To get tech and affect your gameplay you either reverse engineer faction equipment or are granted knowledge by them. And then they start hostilities and instead of aliens humans fight each other. And they are committed. They wipe out each other's havens at a crazy pace. In the end the three factions dominate everything about the game: story, gameplay, aesthetic. And all that ties in with the game's name are a few cutscenes. They could have called it The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It would have been more fitting: Synedrion, New Jericho and Disciples of Anu. Though I am probably being a bit unfair to New Jericho here. I tried to warm to the research system where you don't get to research but the npcs do. I tried to overlook how the map was swamped with havens of the three factions, greatly limiting exploration. But now that I am staring at a geosphere where those three factions are killing each other, and what I thought the game would be about - defending humanity from an "alien" threat - is sidelined so the factions can do their thing, I am feeling that maybe I should just let them play their game. After all, the Phoenix Project and I, the player, are just along for the ride and not important to the game.

  31. It's not the X axis that's off, it's the Y axis. I simply want something in the options like what Destiny 2 has on PC (crap game as it may be) to centre the crosshair UP. so it's in the middle of the screen. It's not a gameplay error, it's an annoying design choice. No, it's not an issue caused by me.
    1 point
  32. No, the crosshair isn't in the centre of the screen, it's quite low. Like Halo 3 low.

  33. Agreed. With the White March installed, Twin Elms becomes even more difficult to get into. It has to be said, though, that the White March itself is very good! No problem at all getting into Stalwart.
    1 point
  34. I wonder what the general consensus is regarding Defiance Bay vs. Twin Elms -- i.e. if somebody made a survey, I wonder whether it'd turn out that Twin Elms is a lot less liked than Defiance Bay. I personally found it very hard to get into Twin Elms. The graphics are nice, I fully admit that it does look good, but by the time you get there, you've already reached level cap(*) and you almost immediately get to know that you're basically on the brink of finishing the whole thing. Thus, I found it very hard to find the motivation to walk up to every named character to have a chat (to get more quests, to get to know things better, etc: all the stuff you do in Defiance Bay). (*) Note: obviously this is not a definite fact, but I'd wager it tends to be true more often than not. Also, reaching level cap does not decrease gaming motivation for everybody, but again, for a lot of people it does.

  35. From my point of view, it seems fairly simplistic to think that big cities are inherently better or worse than small cities. It's a question of content, balance and the quality of writing. Most things can be done well, but in fact most things are done in a fairly average way, simply because it is really quite difficult to do things well. Let's look at the question of cities in CRPGs. They're already a trope, almost a cliche: there has to be this one big major city in a game, the bustling place where you get the majority of your important quests and which acts as the central hub. Now, things definitely can work this way, no question, but nothing about this scenario is necessary. I think the fact that the "big city" idea has become a cliche in CPRGs suggests two things: 1) game developers tend not to be very creative, and 2) players are incredibly conservative and want the same thing over and over again, as long as it looks new and is updated for the newest graphics. I like pop songs. I like metal. I like challenging and polyrhythmic prog epics. I like piano pieces. I like symphonies. I even like enormous operas like Wagner's Ring. I like extremely simple folk songs. The bottom line is always: is it done well? Is it imaginative? The vast majority of everything is not, and CRPGs are not an exception.

  36. So I've just started the game on PC and noticed something immediately... the crosshair is lowered for consoles and it isn't possible to raise it in the settings to make it centred on the screen which is typical of first person games on PC is this something that can be added as it is really grinding on me haha

  38. I was looking at MW5, but the PCGamer review put me off. Apparently you destroy civilian targets and the game uses that as flavour and cringe worthy comments?

  39. Is it actually on there, the full thing? I don't have iOS so I can't check. Seems like it might just be a teaser.
