  1. Bit of a LOL moment when Dorudugan enters the stage with his earth shaking signature jump and your Cleric just casually says "No problem!".

  3. In Obsidian games and similar RPGs, I usually play as high INT, high CHA smooth talkers who use small guns/sniper rifles. (or daggers/bows) So naturally in the Outer Worlds I'll be playing against type, and my first character will be a low INT, high STR melee character who kills everyone he is annoyed by. I'm gonna see if I can turn him into a dumb brute juggernaut that smashes his way through every problem with a two handed hammer.

  4. Not validated yet, but at this point it was so much work I'm just happy to be done. I don't know how other people went about it, but the way I did it was to break the run up into small, easily-rehearsable sections, and run a character in parallel to my real run so I could practice each section before doing it with my real character. It was a hell of a lot of work (I probably in aggregate did the ultimate many times over), and it required a massive amount of note-taking, down to all relevant dialogue choices: If I were to go back in time, I don't know if I'd do it this way again. On the other hand, this was my 23rd attempt (though only the 3rd since I started this method), and I'm not sure I would have had the time or patience to start over from scratch every time I messed up, versus simply mindlessly rehearsing each section until I had it down pat. edit: if you're actually watching, i recommend clicking through to youtube - i have comments on most of the later section that let you jump past the buffing sections (of which there are a lot).

  5. ...really? You don't understand why an RPG has a character creation system? Really?

  11. that's an interesting idea, for myself I honestly never considered it. Part of that is the fact that up until level 16 I literally need every weapon proficiency that I pick up, so for most of my planning I never even contemplated a non-core weapon. Plus, even though after BoW I had more money than I knew what to do with, up until then every single coin mattered (for repairing Scordeo's, for buying mats, and most importantly for having 20000g to buy off the imp so I don't have to fight it in BoW, all keeping in mind that I may be surrendering lots of cash to ship fights). From my practice run (since I couldn't tell how much money I actually had in my real run), it wasn't until after BoW that I started building up my cash (though by the end of FS I had 100000g+). Having to worry about replenishing or repairing magical axes (or even just "not selling axes") would have been very bad for my bank account. It would've either slowed down BoW or worse threatened the run (if I couldn't afford the mat for a critical scroll or potion). There are also several problems though that I see: 1. Even with Brilliant the number of attack abilities you can use is very low (keep in mind with Scordeo's you attack every like .5s, which is 12 attacks before you get a resource back) 2a. Being solo + Scordeo's Edge really eats through your weapon durability super fast. When I was practicing Auranic, I tried one version with Morning Star (Saru-Sichr) and Scordeo's to just keep her permainterrupted and hope for an insta-death kill (because the sigils were jsut super tedious to deal with, I had hoped I could keep her perma-interrupted the entire time... spoiler alert, it's extremely hard to interrupt her near-death self-buff that gives her permabrilliant and reveals all sigils, and even if I had a decent chance of success (I didn't) "mostly consistent" was not good enough of a solution). Anyway, that version of the practice attempt flopped pretty quickly because I took the Saru-Sichr to almost broken just from taking out the two barbarians, much less actually hurting the megaboss. 2b. Given how quickly you wear out weapons in any major boss fight, the added damage from the DoT--regardless of the number of stacks--is not going to have much of an impact as far as I can tell, versus sticking with a summoned weapon or fists the entire time. 3. Interactions with Shadowing Beyond or Withdraw when trying to de-aggro. I don't remember if DoTs break invis, but it was certainly not something I wanted to risk (or waste time during a practice run) doing. Long-lived effects can also subtly alter enemy AI - wouldn't matter for the blood mage runs, but with tactician there are ways to not have any enemy aggroed, but you still don't trigger Brilliant, and there's some subtle interaction with AI state that results in this. My run is extremely conservative by nature, and if there's an outside chance that I fail to deaggro the enemies when I need to, then I'm not gonna do it. Over the course of months of doing the ultimate, I sort of had a working knowledge of how the game determines that you met the conditions for Brilliant de-aggro, but it wasn't 100% consistent, more like 95% consistent. That remaining 5% almost threatened my run in the Belranga fight when Belranga failed to de-aggro enough to trigger Brilliant; I had to re-aggro and then de-aggro again. I put in the video notes that I don't think I can express how insanely close to failing the run I was just from pure AI flakiness. So adding anything to increase the chance of that kind of outcome happening was not desirable. (The number of times I needed to de-aggro in the middle of a fight were low, but when I needed to, I needed to with basically 100% success rate. I suppose I could have just no used an axe for those fights, but that would have just been one more thing to remember/note.) 1. the reason why I personally use sparkcrackers, traps, and in one occasion a scroll (it's either sunbeam or plague of insects) is their small AoE. I've definitely failed some stealth practice runs because I accidentally hit an enemy with the aoe of one of those effects (even sparkcrackers); remember that this has Skaen's challenge with Expert mode on so even with a torch you might not have visibility of where you need to lure enemies to (and thus what you're targeting). Fireball (or any other larger AoE) would be worse. Traps are basically guaranteed not to aggro enemies because they don't walk onto the trap, just up to it (except for Searing Seal). 2. Using any AL 2 (repulsing seal) or AL 5 spell is basically a non-starter. You almost always want both withdraws available at the start of the fight (either as insurance or because that's the way for this fight you need to de-aggro), and at least one Shadowing Beyond (sometimes more). I learned this the hard way. (This feeds back into the "flakiness" aspect of tactician brilliant - sometimes Shadowing Beyond is good enough, sometimes you need to Withdraw, and sometimes you don't know you need to withdraw until after you've shadowed beyond.) Maybe some of the other spell levels would've been OK, though for myself frankly every single spell I picked up was important up until the end game (where most things are irrelevant compared to just buffing Scordeo's Edge), so I didn't really have a spare spell to pick up just for luring.

  15. How about killing exactly half of the people in the game? Or is there an odd total number of NPCs making this impossible?

  16. As already mentioned this information was false. There is 4k support for both consoles. The PS4 Pro just has checkerboard upscaling from 1440p. But, thats the case for most games on Pro.

  20. I've been going through the Beast of Winter DLC for Deadfire. DLC can be hit or miss, but Obsidian nailed it with this one. Deadfire is superior to Pillars, at least to my tastes, but Pillars captures the creepy a bit better. The Beast of Winter does a wonderful job of recreating some of the surreal atmosphere of Pillars. In fact, Rymrgand is a much more interesting figure in this game. Still plodding through slavishly whenever I get the chance. I would say that I hope to finish soon, but I'd be a liar. I'm having great fun. Some games feel like a race to the finish or a chore of ferreting out the nitty gritty. Deadfire is just plain fun. The sailing is fun. The NPCs are fun. The exploration and unfolding story are fun. Truly an excellent game. Whenever I waste time hashing out a thorough review, I'll be up front about those issues that detract from my enjoyment, but the fact is, at this point, there are few such things to cite. Meanwhile, I finished one... side chapter? in Rymrgand's realm. Lady said she'd repay me by helping against tall, dark, and bony when I finally have to duke it out. EDIT: I just started The Bridge Ablaze. Incredible. I don't know were' they'll go with this, but it's ****ing brilliant! Even if they screw it up in execution, the underlying idea is just phenomenal!

  21. You play multiple protags which probably doesn't matter to a whole lot of people but I don't like it in general and hate it in RPGs. And me just being negative because I'm already put off, I'm also guessing it's going to be pretty on the rails or alternatively nothing you do will matter to make 3 stories weave together.

  24. Wrapped up Jade Empire yesterday. I forgot how bad the combat was. Halfway through I shamelessly turned the difficulty down to easy and started demon frog strong attack spamming just to get through the fights. There were a several of quests I didn't do. One quest wasn't available to me because I didn't have the right 'alignment', another because I didn't want to do the flying mini game, and then I got in too big a rush to wrap it up the main quest to do all of Lord Lao's Furnace so Kang's personal quest wasn't finished. I played Open Palm; the only other time I finished JE I played Closed Fist but aside from getting Death's Hand as a follower and siding with Sun Li, there wasn't as much difference as I thought there would be. Thankfully, JE is blissfully short (both times I've played it took me less than 25 hours and that's doing all or most of the content). Liked it a lot, but it'll likely be another 7+ years before I replay it. Oh, and Dawn Star is best girl, of course. Other than that, I returned to my New Game + of Trails of Cold Steel 2 (PC). ToCS 3 is due to come out in North America for the PS4 later this year. If the timeline for 1 and 2 releases are anything to go off of, that means they'll get ported to PC sometime in the next year and a half. I'm waiting for that to happen 'cause I ain't buyin' a console just to play the nest Trails game, despite how much I love the franchise.

  26. They are however confining more than a million Uighurs in 're-edurcation' camps, stealing their children, destroying their culture and harvesting organs for sale off those that cannot be re-educated. China has not fundamentally changed at the top/ leadership wise (population definitely has, but they're also being suppressed more effectively too via 'Social Credit Scores' etc) and they'd happily drive tanks over protesters in any of the big cities westerners haven't heard of, or Beijing which can be sealed off effectively. HK is a special case though, since most of its value to China comes from a western legacy that would be massively reduced in a Tiananmen scenario. Only other city that might get away with similar is Shanghai because it too is a sea port and financial centre with a lot of ingrained foreign presence (Macau which was Portugese is probably just too small and unimportant). One thing is for sure though, gaming boycotts are generally the most embarrassing and ineffective of 'protests', only beaten out by #Kony2012 style twitter slacktivism.

  34. I'm still trying to figure out how to do this with Eder's pipe smoking. It doesn't appear to be strictly the pose itself, I've tried enabling that, and while my character does the same hand-on-the-hip pose, I never saw him actually start to smoke a pipe even after 20+ minutes. I'm thinking maybe it's tied to the PersonalityID and the AnimationAudioEventListID? I've tried copying those over to Player_New_Game (of course, along with the PropsID to actually get the pipe in the there, like OP suggested with Aloth's grimoire), but I'm still not seeing the character animation after sitting around for another 20+ minutes with Eder on the beach. Haven't tried both of those in combination with the pose though, that's gonna be my next shot, but I'm not exactly hopeful. I know this is a thread about Aloth's poses, but has anyone been able to get Eder's pipe smoking successfully mapped to the player character? **edit** Despite my negative attitude when I wrote this earlier, it looks like Eder's pipe smoking idle animation is indeed a combination of those 4 different parts: AvailableInCharacterCreation PersonalityID AnimationAudioEventListID PropsID You have to set the first one from 'false' to 'true' just like the original post suggests, but that alone won't proc the smoking animation. Copying over the other three from Eder's line into the Player_New_Game line, and starting a new game got me the pipe animation though! Very excite. For convenience, if anyone in a similar boat as me stumbles upon this post, here's the exact values I used: <on the Companion_Eder_Personality line> "AvailableInCharacterCreation":"true" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <on the Player_New_Game line> "PersonalityID":"414cb4f8-afb6-44da-9976-b6934922e00e" "AnimationAudioEventListID":"5030c1d9-d4a6-4dd2-973e-f5b41ec9a183" "PropsIDs":["edbf0224-832f-419f-901a-81e20814f66d"]}]} Enjoy having your character puff along with Eder, and toke on everyone!
