  4. For anybody who's still curious what's this all about I made this quick illustration: It's basically the same as the Barbarian's yell: first it's a cone and then you can decide to go for a broad, straight line (think of Iconic Projection or Rolling Flame and such) or a circle around you. Difference only is that the barb yells have an AoE indicator. Why does Clear Out et al. don't have one? I guess because this ability is executed with weapons. And weapons can have their own AoE indicator. So I think it's just not there to prevent interference of AoE indicators. The yells are no weapon attacks so it's easy to show an AoE indicator for them. By the way: Clear Out with AoE weapons means all AoE grazes/hits/crits from Clear Out will trigger an AoE attack roll from the weapon. So basically AoEΒ² hits. You can also manage to hit targets that are not in the original Clear Out AoE if they are not too far away because the AoE of the weapon may reach them. This works with Whispers of the Endless Paths, Citzal's Spirit Lance, Keeper of the Flame and KarabΓΆrΓΌ (both sort of) and also hand mortars (unlock the use of Clear Out with a melee offhand weapon or a bashing shield - Clear Out will still use the main hand mortar). If you use a jumping weapon like Fire in the Hole then you will have 2*AoEΒ² hits. This can even mean you hit enemies that are totally out of the original AoE of Clear Out since the jump (with attached AoE) will reach them. If you even have Driving Flight AND Fire in the Hole you'll have 3*AoEΒ² which usually totally annihilates everything. This last thing is only doable with basic Clear Out though (since the upgrades are PL8).

  5. The agreement is definitely cover for Trump and nothing else, 'peacefully' handing the Sudetenland safe zone over to Turkey in what is to all practical a surrender as abject as Chamberlain's. It 'gives' the US nothing and Turkey everything. 'Gives' because it's also completely unenforceable as the US has no real leverage left over the Kurds and the only leverage they have over the government forces that hold most of the 'safe zone' and all its major cities now is sanctions relief which would only come if they drop the Russians and Iranians- indeed, with Saudi making positive overtures due to their loathing of Turkey leverage has decreased even more. Gives Trump a chance to salute a victory, and potentially blame the Kurds plus dump the mess into Russia's lap when the truce collapses. The one thing that absolutely has not changed is that for internal political reasons Erdogan needs somewhere to dump his highly unpopular refugees. They've managed to actually take one largish town in Tal Abyad/ Girespi, and that ain't anywhere near enough. (Bit of fake news just released too, saying the SDF has accepted the agreement. They haven't, they've accepted the ceasefire, for the active combat zones, only, and not the agreement. Looks like Al Jazeera Arabic truncated a quote from a Kurdish TV station, and others like Beeb picked it up from there) [added agreement text. 9&10 are probably most important]

  8. Started Jade Empire for the first time in years. Immediately got sucked in despite the terrible combat. Makes me sad how far BioWare's fallen. A game with a fraction of the budget, less than a 10th of the people working on it, and 1/3rd as technically competence is still twenty times as fun as Anthem.

  11. To Obsidian, I was looking forward to purchasing this new game from you company but after learning that your new overlord is not allowing a 4K option on the ps4 there is no point. If this was also happening on the xbox I would not have a argument, but this is a cross-platform game and this kind of intentional limiting petty. I try to be positive but in this case I hope this game tanks and I hope I never see another game cross-platform for you again.

  15. My party is now level 16 in Deadfire. I've had a lot of weird things happen. The biggest news most recently is that I set a sea dragon free after siphoning off enough of its soul to keep the druids going for the time being. I simply killed off the slavers on their island. I figured I'd be screwed somewhere along the line, but apparently it doesn't matter that much. Anyhow, I (b)finally (/b) figured out that I can move to places within cities by clicking on specific locations once I click on a district. Good Lord! THEN, I found out I can sail to places immediately by clicking on known locations. I'm telling you, I'm kicking myself. However, since I'm (b)already(/b) planning my next run, it's not so bad. I have literally lost sleep playing this game, which is a hallmark of greatness.

  16. I'm always for accepting folks fighting for what they want in a game. Seriously. I also don't hold grudges for people letting off steam and hating on things or even me. After all, a little heat can sometimes bring a bit o' light. Good God, I should put that in a fortune cookie! <.< Okay, as a jilted former nobody one his fifth for the night, I'm just saying that creating an account for the sole purpose of hating on this one aspect shoots past ridiculous, surpasses sublime, swerves around transcendent, and heads straight to divine. Okay, after a few, I get even more goofy. Anyhow, I don't mean any offense. I'm just joking around in my own weird way. In all seriousness, if you feel really strongly about it, keep fighting for what you want, PsychoCat4. The jaded view is that it's a limitation imposed by Microsoft, but if that's the case, then you can't blame Obsidian for it, right? If it's not imposed, then maybe it would take much longer to implement something that can't be used on all platforms? Perhaps the consumer pool insistent on this feature is simply not large enough to warrant the extra resources to implement it? If the latter is the cased then mayb e having enough people push for it could convince them. I personally don't care because I'll only play on the PC.

  18. I don't use consumables at all (besides the obligatory food when resting). Still I think that if you introduce consumables you better make sure that they have any worthwhile impact. Best is if they do something different than the other items/abilites. Let them have unique effects. Stacking rules are rel. simple: active effects stack, passives don't. Stuff from items stacks. The problem is: it's often not recognizeable what's active and what's passive (besides in the ability tree). Starts with weapon modals. Is an ability that I get from a weapon an active effect or not? And then you have the cases where debuffs/buffs "to all" do stack with debuffs/buffs "to x". See Vigorous Defense, Borrowed Instincts or Llengrath's Safeguard stacking with Mirrored Images or Arcane Veil and so on. Confusing... A solution would be to only give a certain type of effect to a certain group. For example only give direct defense/offense bonuses (defenses, accuracy, dmg) to items and passives. Only give inspirations and afflictions to active abilites. Make scrolls different active abilities than the ones from classes but communicte that they are actives. Give potions direct attribute boosts but no inspirations. And so on. Keep it separate and you don't run into stacking confusion. And where you have overlapping or where it still might be unclear: communicate the stacking rules for this effect right with the item/ability/consumable - every time (not only on the char sheet once it's all active or having to check the combat log for everything). And while you are at it: put stuff like attack speed and recovery on the char sheet where the other stats like weapon dmg and accuracy etc. are. It's not great having to manually check the tooltip ofthe equipped weapon.

  19. "dream logic" That reminds me of how a RedLetterMedia video said more or less the same thing about Suspiria (1977), which I also thought was extraordinarily painful. I think I might start avoiding any movies where anybody even remotely implies it being "dream-like". Seemingly not to my taste.

  25. An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?' The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?' The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

  28. More like animancypunk ('cause who needs hot wet air when you can use soul essence, right? ) - but yeah. It wouldn't be such a big step since Eora already seems to be at the brink of some kind of industrialisation (see the luminous adra milling and stuff). It wasn't a medieval setting to begin with. Not saying I would want that for PoE3 necessarily, but a game in the Pillars universe - maybe with a small time leap (see the animancer experiment in Sacred Stairs) could be a nice little side project. I think the lore and setting are perfect for such a transition. I also have a name for that: Gears of Eternity. BAM - now it's official: I'm a genius.

  29. Boeroer: Thank you for your well-written and thought-out replies to 3x0du5. On the basis of his reply to me, it seems fairly apparent that for whatever reason, 3x0du5 is unable to see the difference between an opinion and an argument, and the concept of backing up one's opinion also seems alien to him. Which does not bode well, as far as discussion goes. As for P:K outclassing Deadfire -- I think that's potentially a good debate. But what you say about dialogue in P:K is spot on. Given the amount of attention the developers gave to so many other aspects of the game, it's rather astonishing to see how poor the dialogue is. And not only poor, but cliched. I've said this before, but I'm saying it again: much of the dialogue and narration is actually so poor that I wonder whether it's meant to be a parody. Either way, it doesn't really work that well. I have now finished both games once. I liked them both, rather a lot even. I think it's a good thing that I don't need to choose between them.

  30. DOS2 sells 4 times as much as pillars I guess thats not a fact just an opinion right D:OS2 selling better than Deadfire is a fact. But nobody doubted that. You on the other hand jump to the conclusion that it's the better Turn based combat of D:OS2 than Deadfire's that explains this difference in sales. Which is non sequitur at best. Most likely it's an intentionally placed strawman but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. It's illogical anyway since Deadfire didn't have any turn based combat when those numbers came out. So I can't see the point you want to make. "it is a fact for 99% of people out there excluding 50 guys in this forum same guys who think book of Woedica is worthy addition to the game and that pillars 3 should be turn based" The first part is not only not a fact but also dishonest. How do you want to back up that statement? You can't and you most likely know, yet you decided to write that nonsense. The second part is not describing what we are trying to tell you. Either knowlingly or unknowingly you twist our statements. I for once never said that PoE3 should be turn based - which would sound like TB mode would be the preferred or even the only play mode. That's not what anybody said in this thread if I recall correctly. I said they should keep both RTwP and Turn Based - others said that they would like TB mode in PoE3, true - but nobody said that it should be turn based exclusively. And why would they? You on the other hand insist that PoE3 should be RTwP only. You have a strong opinion on that. However your arguments so far have been quite feeble and not convincing. While I think my reasoning for keeping TB mode has been somewhat rational - although I personally don't want to play TB mode in a future PoE3. anyway to end this discussion : reality is that pillars has nothing going for it except the RTWP combat other than that is completely outclassed by actually good games and its even getting outclassed by other RTWP games (PFKM) This will not really end the discussion - especially not if one repeats the cardinal error and tries to present opinion as facts. Just because you use the word "fact" or "reality" doesn't mean that you write down facts or real things. Of course Pillars and Deadfire have more going for them than RTwP. The internet is full of people who write what they like about PoE or Deadfire - and most of it is not about RTwP combat. If that would be the only thing why Deadfire get bought - and it doesn't even do it very well as you like to state - then both games wouldn't have gotten such positive critical acclaim, would they? Unless all critics are wrong and dumb of course - which nobody really believes - so let me take this silly future argument off the table before it even starts to raise its wonky head... If Deadfire gets "outclassed" by Pathfinder Kingmaker is a matter of taste and also a matter of the aspects of the games you are comparing. For example I would say that for most people who like well written dialogues Pathfinder is no competitor to Deadfire. Also most critics seem to think that Deadfire outclasses Pathfinder KM (if you want to use that verb): the metacritic score is DF 88 to KM 73 - which is substancial. So - the "facts" seem to paint a different picture - or at least they contradict your statement that Pathfinder KM outclasses Deadfire. Is Pathfinder's RTwP combat better? I don't know. For me personally it is not. I played Pathfinder and found it quite boring - like if it appealed to a more juvenile audience. The combat wasn't more exciting or better than Deadfire's for me. But then I don't really claim that Deafire officially outclasses Pathfinder in anything... I can just say that I like Deadfire better. Also better than D:OS2 by the way although I generelly prefer turn based games. What I liked about PFKM was that most equipped items effectively changed the appearence of the ingame model. That was neatly done. In this particular field KM outclassed Deadfire - for me. Edit: excuse the code tags instead of quotes - the forum totally fell into spasms when I tried to use multiple quote tags so there you go.

  31. 'Is just better'. That's it guys everyone pack your bags and go home. We were all wrong liking this game, lets just go play DOS2 instead, even though i have played it and don't like it. '3x0du5' has shown us the light by saying it is just better. And apparently if something sells more it is just better. Like Adam Sandler films, are just better than anything which makes less money... apparently.
