Gave a decent go to Disco Elysium (bout 5 hours). Loving it so far. It gives me Planescape vibe, with it's heavy focus on writing and interactions. It is an RPG through and through, with plenty of checks. Your skills acting as characters talking to you and pointing/informing of things is creative and intruiging. You also can die... a lot. In unexpected but not unforeshadowed ways. Save often folks. The time passing mechanic so far looks interesting. Possibly the most promising time mechanic I have seen in a game. It is a slow burner though. Those hours culminated in achieving a task I set out to do when starting. Lot's of talking, inspecting, and tinkering. Artstyle is amazing.

You don't need Weapon Proficiency to use different weapon types (in order to apply the most effective dmg type). In that regard you could do without it. The only effect (besides Devoted's passive and Confident Aim) is that you can use a "balanced" modal that gives you additional options. Maces can lower AR for others but hit a lot slower, Morning Star lowers fortitude but does less dmg then, Sword gains +2 PEN but deflection drops. I generally like this approach. I do agree though that a) at a certain point it feels redundant because you already picked all of those you think are useful for you and b) replay value or -motivation would be increased (at least for me) if the choice were a bit more scarce. I also think that some of the modals are fantastic while others are meh. They seem to be a bit unbalanced. For example the modals of battle axe, mace, flail, club and especially morning star can be very useful while I can't see as much value in the hunting bow or great sword modal (trading one dps stat for the other).

to be a bit more specific than Achilles... both still retain "clear out", but that only affects the enemies in front of you. the upgrade "clear the path" will also affect enemies in a line moving away from you in the front. so it's like a cross in front of you. clean sweep affects enemies directly surrounding you, in 360 degrees. clear the path will be most useful if you tend to funnel enemies into chokepoints in front of you. clean sweep will be more useful if you tend to put yourself in the middle of groups, usually by using charge a lot. so which is better depends on your playstyle. for me, I tend to charge my fighter right into the middle of the biggest group, set his stance to mob rule, and use clean sweep when at least one enemy is near death.

Those patch sizes are nearly the full game. Is that actually necessary? I mean it doesn't concern me as I'm playing over GamePass on PC. But, wow.

Disco Elysium. Haven't seen word o'mouth this strong for I dunno how long. This is going to make not playing until sufficiently patched so much easier.

It won't capture it, though, simply because it is impossible to capture playing tabletop with a group of friends in the same room with you. This, on an abstract level, is why I feel it shouldn't even be attempted, because even at its best, it's only going to be a pale shadow. A proper single-player cRPG campaign can do many things that a good PnP cannot, and vice versa. A cRPG multiplayer falls somewhere in between -- it's not the "worst of both worlds" but it's a way of playing that I don't find particularly fruitful.

Is it just me or is the NFL particularly hard to watch this year? Never mind my team being crappy, I had to suffer through like 10 8-8 seasons in a row at one point, but I was always able to find other exciting stuff to watch as soon as it became obvious that muh Boys were doing Jack and **** that season. But this season, I just can't find anything compelling. There have been a few fun games here and there and Lamar Jackson Mania was fun for a hot second, but overall I'm finding this season excruciatingly dull. I can't even get that excited to watch Patrick Mahomes. Maybe it's just me?
