Neverwinter Nights 2 Community Update

May 16th and the year is flying by. Time for another update.

There's been a lot of action on the vault lately. I'm going to focus on the player-made shtuff again for this update.

Stained Glass Windows

Ar_Pharazon has created a great hakpack with some stained glass windows. If you have been looking for that special touch for your church or cathedral building, here it is. Great work.

Prestige Class Wizard

Thankfully, this plugin was updated by its author, Ville Alasaari. This tool helps you to create custom Prestige Classes. Give it a try and provide feedback to the author.

NWN1-style Lighting Effects

If you miss the sparkling lights or the many colored spotlight effects that were in NWN1, Thomas_B has created a great set of visual effects that fill that gap.

Vines

Sometimes, it's the little details that make the mod. These vines, made by Camb (the same Camb that brought us the blood splatters in an earlier update), will surely add some life and detail to your mod. Check them out on the Vault.

Fan Art

I have a great appreciation for any Fan-made creations, be they mods, models, effects or Fan Art. I was browsing through the forums a while back and came across this great little piece of Fan Art by Lollu:

Lollu goes by a different name on DeviantArt, but you can see more of Lollu's art here: Artist

That said, I would primarily ask : what are your skills ?

It seems that I'm enough good with scripting (not The King of Scripting, but enough to create something working good).

Infact I'm working on another "Do something with objects" system (I've got in mind also an interesting update for "To sit on Objects", waiting Obsidian's solution).

The "something" is, to cut short, resting, praying and studying... pratically a rest system that works by object interaction (PLC and/or inventory Items) and works together or alternatively to the standard rest system.

Then there are dozens of variable that may be setted to have the exact "object rest system" you want.

But I noticed that people (expecially final player) like more "appareance" than "functions"... so a set of shield and armors (just to say something), that do what every other shield and armor model does (but looking differently), is more welcome than a new scripted system...

I'm wrong?

Actually, they are just things I find on the vault and elsewhere. Interesting things I think the community would like to know about.

I was thinking the same... I guess that's (partly) due to the fact that pictures catch more attention than text descriptions.

But there are some script systems that are waited/appreciated by many people, such as the formations scripts by Jasperre. And I personaly love the automatic party buffing scripts by Loudent or LostCreation.

It's probably that the more technical stuff is more appreciated by module-builders than by the players in general, as they dont know what is going on "behind the scenes".

Some of this community content is quite nice. Will Obsidian be more willing to mae community content offical and release it with an expansion than Bioware was?

It would be nice to be able to use this additional content in MP without the need for compiling hak packs and without having to wait 2 years for a CEP to be compiled.

I dont want to diminish your question, but actually hak compiling is very easy, and as we already have the need to distribute pwcs, haks shouldnt be too much of a headache anyhow.

It's the merging of 2da's and other issues with using custom content from many different sources. I don't want to have to worry about this and if the content was released officially I wouldn't. I'll decide what is too much of a headache for me to deal with. To me, this qualifies.

Yes I know it can be done. I was asking if Obsidian would be more willing to turn custom content into official content.
