Neverwinter Nights 2 Community Update

So, based on the feedback from the Bioware NWN2 forum, it seems we have been neglecting the news side of things. One of the issues is that we give out information in so many places, it's difficult to remember what information was given where. Hopefully we can change that with this Blog.

Starting today, I plan on releasing some news every week, when there is news to give. If there is no news, I will probably post about some of the cool things I have seen in the community so that others can experience it to. So, without further a-do, here's the news for this week:

Granny Beta Underway!

Awsome news and congrats to get 1.05 finally out of the door!

As for future patches, I'd rather see small updates, perhaps even on an almost monthly basis. Especially, when it shifts now from bugfixes to additions, as you implied.

Like you stated for OEI internally, those monster patches take for ever to test and pass QA. The same happens on the builder side, if we have to doublecheck and adapt dozens of scripts and 2das at once. This would basically slow down the implementation of the patches and delay valuable feedback on possible bugs and flaws to you. I doubt, builders willl beta test patches, that take days to weeks to implement and verify.

Great news about the patch, though it seems to cause toolset loading issues :(

here are a couple of examples of that new snow texture in action (nothing exceptional, I just tossed 'em together in an hour or so to help show what's possible with the textures):

snow 1 snow 2 snow 3

edit to remove toolset fix because it may cause other issues - Rob

Sadly, it does cause toolset problems. I don't even get an error on my system, just... nothing.

Oh well, It should be fixed by the time I get back from a short vacation

The question is simple: Why the title talks about "11 March" instead of "April"? :sorcerer:

I don't know what you are talking about. :shifty:

regarding the news: i think i would prefer for now just bug fixes, new features are always fun, but i have to admit I'm scared to play my copy of the game because I'm afraid ill either:

-Get into the game and have it crash on me, forcing me to reboot

-get into an area that gives me massive frame rate drops and prevents me from doing anything

-accidentally screw up my save game somehow forcing me to start over

-get far without saving and then hit the glitch that makes your characters decide to not follow you and do nothing permanently

i have restrained myself from recommending NWN2 to friends, and have even denied its existence on multiple occasions because i don't think said friends will stick with the game because of the bugs (and then blame me for recommending a buggy game)

i guess I'm saying over all i would LOVE to have more bug fixes than new features at this point in time.

Well, you should realize that bug fixes and new features are only remotely connected.

Sometimes, a fix opens a lot of new options on the feature side with just some work. And not all of your personal bugs may be reproducable immediately, but may be ironed out if code is redone on some related aspect.

Even though often reported, I doubt crashing is sooo often to happen, cause with 10 builders, we have not a single one complaining about those. Well, could be pure luck.

I'm glad to see that there have been some work done on a multi-select feature for 1.05. What I'd want the most for upcoming patches, preferably as soon as possible, is for this feature to be improved and worked on.

What I'm looking for is for it to work somewhat similar to how it did in Baldur's Gate and its sequels:

- Shift + click to select/deselect individual characters

- Formations (line, wedge, rectangle etc.)

- Player initiated conversations use the active character and his/her abilities

Other additions I'd like to see:

- Random encounters and possibly respawns in the original campaign

- Playable NPCs don't level with the main character (individual experience)

Wheeeepee ! a Granny plugin ! :w00t:

Have you got an approximate release date for it ? If it's sure it's not before a month, I can then live a month without checking the blog every day. :)
