Update 3.01 is now live on Steam and Origin. GOG should follow in the next day or two.

You can see the changelist by going here.

This appears to be a fatally applied update.  I just downloaded and installed 3.01 today at 9pm EST and my game is now unplayable.  Upon launch, the game menu consists of psychedelic white and pink boxes that flash.  I can't open a game as I can't make out anything.  I had been playing version 3.0 successfully as of 2pm today.  Upon reading the forums, I verified the integrity of my cache, which I did.

What did you do?

Would you please fix what you've broken?

Hey ropriski,

I apologize for the inconvenience. Could you please post on the tech support forums and please post up an output log and your system spec file? You can find how to locate those files by clicking on the link in my signature below.

Thanks a bunch!

I recently found out that the effects from Faith and Conviction (the Paladin talent that improves your Accuracy and Defenses proportionally to how high and how representative of your order your reputation is) doesn't actually scale the Accuracy and Defenses bonuses according to reputation, as it should do according to its description. Any estimate on whether this will be fixed in the next patch?

  • Characters now gain Second Wind correctly.
  • Fixed a problem where characters were getting Second Wind twice.

Not sure if this is in regards to that, my character has second wind on his skill bar even with no points in athletics though.

Are you on GOG by any chance? I have had endless grief with the patches on their side. And Galaxy is even worse. Sounds like a problem people had with WM1 with the meshes. It could be due to not downloading and installing the correct patches in the correct order... If you are on steam, then sorry no idea....

Thank you, great Obsidz, for this quickly delivered patch! :)

And yeah. Surely, it's a GOG thing, since on the Steam of end of things, any old saves etc. are working like a charm after it patched to 3.01977 (?).

Yeah, while I like GOG, their patching is terrible... There are plenty of times when I wish I just brought on steam...

In my experience the only sure way of “applying patches” on GOG with games like PoE is reinstalling the game completely (~_~) I don't have access to Galaxy, though.

Even though I had the texture errors at some point during WM1 on GoG as well, his problem can't be happening on GoG since as of writing this GoG does not grant access to 3.01.

He also explicitly said he verified the integrity of his cache which should be a steam exclusive term.

While I'm sorry for your bad experience with gog and while I also have mixed feelings about galaxy, I can't deny that galaxy at least managed to always download all my games into a functioning state. In particular, that sidestepped the problem of determining the order of patches and installation during WM1 for me and fixed the mesh problems, so I'm kind of grateful for that.

What sucks about galaxy for me is the inefficient downloading because it does not compress data before downloading and redownloads all patched files instead of updating the differences. In particular, fixing of that mesh error took several hours of downloads because my internet connection is not the greatest.

Uh ok well if it's steam then I have no idea! I tried Galaxy though and it was horrible. At one point I couldn't run the game. If some bright spark on the forums hadn't picked up that you had to delete a file in the Galaxy folder I'd have been stuck. Thing is I like GOG and I would prefer to use them, but their system for patching is a mess. And Pillars, because of the expansions makes if worse

Some of the german texts show regressions. Corrected spelling errors are there again in 3.01.. but there are also new fixes. Seems to be a mix of new and old text files.

Good news - this should be fixed in 3.02. http://forums.obsidi...position-bonus/

There's a temporary workaround for the main PC that I describe to in the thread linked above, but it reverts NPCs to the old Faith and Conviction too.

FWIW, I just installed the 3.01 patch from GOG and everything seems fine.  (Linux version, new game started just a few days ago, if that matters).

Patch 3.01 has like 12 MB.

Galaxy is downloading like 7 GB.

What gives?

They read the postings here and thought, "well then, if they prefer it that way, better to let them re-download the whole game instead of patching" :p

Nope I did a re-install the other day with Galaxy to switch from DVD to digital and it was 25GB LOL

- with my download speed  at home measured in fractions of MB I opted to sit outside a wifi spot in my car for an hour and a half and read the sunday paper as it downloaded - the good news is when it installed I had PoE, WM 1 & 2 and 3.0 in one swell foop...

Have not checked into GoG since 3.01 went live tho

Sorry, everyone. I don't have any insight into how GOG generates the patches.

One thing to note about folks that are not seeing 3.01 on GOG:

GOG mentioned that 3.01 is live. If folks aren't seeing it, it is because they need to refresh their GOG account for it to show up properly. To refresh your account you can visit the following link on GOG: https://www.gog.com/account/refresh

GOG's Galaxy is truly amazing. I had a problem with the 3.01 patch refusing to install from Galaxy, with the result of attempting to install the patch being that Galaxy was crashing to desktop.

Since I'm a leet hax0r, I downloaded the patch manually from GOG's site and attempted to install that. It almost succeeded, but finished with an error, sayng that common_audio.unity3d that I had locally was wrong version. Ok. Anyway, I started the game up, and it showed a 3.01 version number.

GOG's support guy's solution to my patching problem was... that I should uninstall the whole game, then uninstall Galaxy, then reinstall galaxy and finally reinstall PoE. Great job. That's just like Microsoft's solution to problems with Windows up to Windows XP :D

Anyway, I did that, because I'm that crazy, and at my first attempt to uninstall PoE, my computer rebooted shortly after their (GOG's) uninstaller started deleting the game files. I found this quite impressive. In the end, I managed to unistall the game (and the expansions which the support guy had omitted in his instructions). Then I uninstalled Galaxy and installed it again from scratch.

Guess what - now it was refusing to install PoE without CTD-ing but with a disk read error. Eventually I figured that maybe having just 30GB of free space isn't enough for this genious invention to do its thing. I freed up more space and the game finally installed correctly.

Given that this whole process took a little over 4 hours, I was getting slightly annoyed (only at GOG ofc). What was also remarkable is that the 25 GB download took me around half an hour (6gb/sec guys), while GOG love-able installer took at least an hour and a half to finish whatever the hell it was doing.

I guess that's the price you pay for not being tied to Steam...

Yeah no one know how patching works on GOG, including GOG.... I tried Galaxy and had some serious issues ranging from the game not launching to re downloading the entire game whenever there was an update. Eventually deleted Galaxy and now manually patch and install. Better, but still a ridiculously complicated exercise.

I've got a steam version as well, but I originally downloaded from GOG, it's touch and go at the moment as to whether or not I delete the GOG version and install it on Steam.
