It has been argued on this forum that Soulbound Weapons are rather weak, at least when compared to major endgame weapon like Tidefall or Dragon-eyed Tallgrass. There is also the problem of Durgan Steel : Even a Fine weapon can be upgraded with it, but not Soulbound ones.

I suppose the Dev didn't want to add the possibility to Enchant them because their enchant level would be a mess as their properties are not fixed once for all...

My opinion is that such unique weapons deserve a bit of raw power. As they are already Superb, the most obvious choice would be a little Lash property. Currently, the fact they miss it means they do less regular damage than most topdog weapons and that's a pity...

I don't think it would make them overpowered (They would still miss Durgan Refinement. But this is not so bad as it saves Durgan Steel for other weapons.)

They could get the lash at Upgrade level 2 for example.
Even without Durgan refinement, this would make them a bit more competitive.

By the way, I don't think it is too hard to add from Dev perspective.

Then, the funny thing would be to choose their lash effects. I think the following ones would fit really well :

- Stormcaller : This one is obvious -> Shocking Lash.

- St Ydwen Redeemer : Holy Weapons share a common trait with Demonic Ones : They like burning their ennemies down ! One of Redeemer's effect (Divine Mark) already does fire damage by the way. -> Fire Lash

- Greenstone Staff : Do you know what is green and hurts ? Either a Demonic bean or Acid ! -> Corrosive Lash

- Nightshroud : For the night is Cold and full of Terror -> Freeze Lash

- The Grey Sleeper : So there is no elemental lash remaining... However, there is already a weapon that has another unique Lash : Justice and its Crushing Lash ! Crushing Lash would fit really well a weapon that can already "throw rocks" -> Crushing Lash

IMHO, it fits so well that it sounds like destiny.

Which soulbound item is overpowered? They are all weaker than a fully enchanted (12/12), durgan refined weapon. Only exception is Stormcaller. AND you have to run around and unlock all the good (not overpowered) stuff.

The rest of the soulbound items I never bothered to use.

The key is whether you judge a game by its first playthrough or its replayability. I am in the corner of 1st playthrough. Soulbound weapons are unique. Any weapon can get a lash. Stormcaller and Nightshroud don't need a lash with there current setups. The real problem is they introduced a new way for a group of weapons to perform/be enhanced in game with an add-on adventure after everyone played the game multiple/zillions of times..... IMO they are only causing trouble doing this.... I would of preferred more NPCs, more story and more unique encounters with more enemy types introduced.

No matter which fork in the road you take I am certain adventure awaits.

Only if you disregard the wack stuff they do on hit or crit -- summoning minions, destroying vessels, slapping debuffs etc. That's worth a lot more than a few points extra damage.

Well, the big issue for me is their extra effect is just a % chance on hit or crit, rather than 100%, in addition to the lower damage from no lash or steel. By level 12, I'm in the 50-100% crit range with every swing, so effects that boost crit damage or CC on crit get really useful. A weapon like We-Toki or The Hours are great examples, getting huge damage boosts while also stun locking whatever mob is being attacked. Those 15% chance of extra effects really start to fall behind, even just for base stats, let alone piling on a Lash and Steel upgrade.

The minion summoning from The Grey Sleeper is pretty useless by the time you get the weapon, by the way. I'll take Durgan Steel over it any time of day and night.

BUT I do not think Soulbound weapons should have a lash :)

That stuff gets triggered way to seldomly to be useful. Onlly exceptions are the barb and the ranger with their "one strike - multiple hits" abilities. Weapons that do stuff on crit are more reliable and trigger more often. So no - I don't disregard that - and I think it's not wack at all. Only exception: Stormcaller. It's -6 shock DR on hit is awesome. And with a ranger's multiple hits per it's Returning Storm is also very powerful. The rest of the soulbound weapons is just inferior to enchantet unique weapons. Especially in regard to durgan refinement.

I would be happy if the chances to trigger something would be higher or if they had some truely unique features like Stormcaller (-6DR) has. Something that only this weapon does and is not tied to x% on hit/crit. Something like interfering for example (-5 def. on hit), but more special. One could have a weak elemental carnage/blast effect - Greenstone Staff for example: 10% raw damage over time aoe or something like that.

soulbound weapons should be as useful as the rest of the unique weapons just like stormcaller is. Adding merely a lash does not pay off for the weak x% on hit/crit attribute. Sure if you land that it's nice but they are so situational anyway I'd rather equip Tidefall or any high end non-soulbound Greatsword for that matters.
