Advice on Android or Windows Tablet

I want to get a tablet. Now, I build my own computers and they're always top of the line when I first build them, but I know really nothing about tablets. I want to keep it under a 1 grand if I can, but I want a decent screen size and performance. The choice for me is between Android or Windows. Sorry, Apple folks, but the Applebots have left such a bad taste in my mouth that I simply won't buy an ipad. Of course, trying to be forgiving, I'll overlook Applebots who grief me over mentioning what a chore they are, but does anyone else have erudite advice on tablets?

I love my Droid MAXX and so I'm inclined to some sort of Android tablet. I also intend to use most of my bandwith on my home network. I want something that will work smoothly with my computers and my printer. Nevertheless, I'm on Verizon and I want decent connectivity. I guess most of that is on the network, but I know some devices do better than others.

It must game. Yeah, I won't have time to game on it much, but when I want to do so, I want it to be powerful enough to be able to hang with games. In particular, I plan on getting the new Obsidz Pathfinder game when/if it gets released.

I saw a thread Gorgon made back in August, but these things change pretty rapidly and I've got pretty specific needs in mind. My luck trying to plumb the Obsidzian community on tech subjects has been pretty dismal, but I'm hoping for word from folks who are more in the know than me. <.<

Well, there aren't any really cool tablets out right now, so..

Since the Snapdragon 810 (a system on chip, SoC) overheated like a mofo, things have been slow. No new SoC's, nothing really exciting. I had high hopes for the successor to the Tegra K1 that I own (still think it's a fantastic piece of gear), the Tegra X1, but that seems to have basically vanished.

Right now I would probably recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 or the Sony Xperia Tab Z4.

The Samsung has a really good AMOLED screen while the Sony is waterproof. Both are extremely fast and can play any game you throw at them.

Thanks for the feedback, mkreku!

What about this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=Samsung+Galaxy+Note+Pro+12.2%27%27+64GB+%28Wifi%29%2C+Black&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Or maybe this one:

I'll probably shop around a bit for price once I've determined what I want. I like the bigger screen and double the memory on the Samsung, but the Sony is lighter and *waterproof!* I mean, I like that idea quite a bit.

I prefer the Sony myself (like the design and *waterproof!*), but I have to warn you: Sony's software does not have a spotless reputation. Of course, neither does Samsung's version of Android, but Sony seems to be slightly worse in that regard.

Thanks again for the input, mkreku. I went to a couple of stores and tried them out. I ended up with the Samsung in the end, but it was a tough choice. I also think I might pick up the Kindle Fire HD that came out recently. It looks big and is more powerful than the old Kindle fire my wife has from about five years or so ago. We'll see how she and I like the S2 first, though.

It's weird how Intel seems to be making progress in the tablet SoC field. I see lots of new tablets using Intel hardware. What's up with that?

The successor to my Mi Pad isn't the Tegra X1, but some sort of Intel thing.
