St. Ydwen's Redeemer not working properly

Kriber22

Question

I've bonded St. Ydwen's Redeemer to Pallegina. The first part of the upgrade, inflict 500 damage to spirits, went just fine. However, when I got to the second part - kill 50 vessels - it all came grinding to a halt.

No matter what I do, the sword isn't counting kills. I got it up to 2/50 and that's where it's been sitting for a long time. I started in the Sanatorium with the Flesh Constructs there, and got the first kill. Then I went to Raedric's Keep and cleared out the dungeon and got my second kill. That's where I noticed something wrong.

No matter how many vessels Pallegina kills with the sword, the count doesn't increase. I've done the two areas mentioned above plus the workshop area in the expansion with all the constructs there. I've made sure to have Pallegina solo several enemies and seen that the combat logs gives her the kill, but no increase. She kills them both in the normal way and with the vessel slaying ability - still no kills. Regular hits, critical hits, with and without Flames of Devotion - still no kills. Something is definitely wrong here.

I'm experiencing this as well but I'm AFK and can't upload any files. Do you have a saved game + output log to attach? Possibly a save right before facing many vessels so QA can repro.

The problem seems to be that when a vessel is destroyed through the weapon's "destroy vessel" ability, it does not count toward the total for the upgrade.

"Honey, I'm hoooome!" :D

SAVED GAME: link

OUTPUT LOG: link

REPRO STEPS:

Load the attached saved game.

Observe the protagonist is wielding St Ydwen's Redeemer and the objective to unlock its next level is to kill 50 Vessels; further observe that 0 Vessels have been killed toward that end yet.

Send the protagonist on alone, so that every kill in the ensuing fight can only be hers.

[It's a POTD game so I suggest sending in the priestess as well to buff the protagonist.]

During the fight, observe that every enemy on screen is, in fact, a Vessel.

At the end of the fight, open St Ydwen's Redeemer's description and observe the progress made toward the goal.

When I follow the steps above, I generally end up with 11-12 kills. Should be more like 25+.

EDIT: I had attached the wrong save.

For me, I notice that the "Destroy Vessels" proc almost always kills the mobs ... I wonder if that's why it's not counting, because the killing blow was not made by the weapon, but instead a "spell"?

If so, having a weapon with a 25% chance of instantly killing mobs you're trying to farm is ... well just poorly designed!

To be honest, it should be creatures in combat with, not kills. Even if that character did not swing. This is a party-based combat game; anything less becomes ridiculous micro-micro-management and extremely tedious. Not everyone plays on "Easy" difficulty where this sort of shenanigan would be possible.
