Why I have the feeling TWM is superior to the maingame

Recommended Posts

Guten Tag,

let me explain this matter further. I already arrived in Stalwart and am now clearing the surroundings of Durgan's Battery. And what can I say? The combat is tough but more rewarding. Stalwart is gorgeous in terms of design and atmosphere. It think it's better done than Gilded Vale, and miles above the lifeless broadways of Defiance Bay. That guys fighting the fire at the burning hut? Very nice touch. The whole ogre attack? Chilling entry. The grumpy dwarf in front of Ondra's temple? Great character! I have the feeling of a more lively and therefore believable town. There even are better background noises than in GV and DB.

As for the story, it sucked me right in. It's more basic than the mainplot and I'll always prefere nice chunk of "Reclaim what was once ours"-Questlines over the philosphical and broody aspects of the maingame. The Feeling of TWM is more of a classical adventure-module of the old days and I love this. Not to mention, I always prefered IWD over the Baldurs Gate-Saga (which I also hold very dear).

So far I only can say:

Mission accomplished!

It's down taste, but I feel exactly the opposite. I prefer complex philosophical stories to simplistic go there - kill that plots; I prefer role play to combat; I like Baldur's Gate better than IWD, and prefer PS:T to either.

Everyone knows Science Fiction is really cool. You know what PoE really needs? Spaceships! There isn't any game that wouldn't be improved by a space combat minigame. Adding one to PoE would send sales skyrocketing, and ensure the game was remembered for all time!!!!!

I will say that the are several points of gameplay/story integration in the expansion that really are much better than what they do in the base game, and some of the interactions with the Devil get *extremely* deep and philosophical.

Funny, you sound like a german grognard. Down here, it's all about artsy-fartsy charakter-play and amateur dramatics. But, I guess that's just different tastes. ^^

Funny. I tend to think of people who are all about combat, dungeon-crawling, pulling out miniatures and tile sets for tactical movement, etc. to be the grognards. ;)
