Pet Locations (minor spoilers)

Recommended Posts

As one of the last things in the game, I decided I was gonna try finding all the available pets, but these things appear to be rather elusive, especially with all the misleading info in the game guide. Since there are quite a few threads on the matter of finding various pets, I figured it might be a good idea to make a new list with the actual locations in the latest version of the game.

Ones I've managed to find:

  • Tiny Obsidian Wurm - Received automatically at the start of a new game by backers.
  • Miniature Giant Space Piglet - Received automatically at the start by those who preordered.
  • Black Hound - Upper floor of the Black Hound Inn in Gilded Vale.
  • Black Cat - Osryaa's lab in the dungeon of Raedric's Hold.
  • Tiny White Wurm - Hatchery on level 2 of Endless Paths of Od Nua (stronghold dungeon).
  • Yellow Lab - Sold by Bishop in Goose and Fox inn in Copperlane district.
  • Calico Cat - Sold by Cortugo in front of Vailian Trading Company in Ondra's Gift.
  • Beagle Dog - Sold by Cortugo in front of Vailian Trading Company in Ondra's Gift.
  • Black and White Cat - Shoved into a chest in Valtas Manor in Heritage Hill.
  • Piglet - Received as a quest reward from Rumbald in Dyrford Village.
  • Tiny Animat - Found in a locked room in Cliaban Rilag Ruins.
  • Orange Tabby Cat - Received when walking past Pumpkin the Khwarg (backer) in Hearthsong.
  • Tiny Beetle - Received from Alarhi in Hearthsong as part of the Hard Bargain task.
Ones I haven't been able to find:
  • Tiny Spider - Supposedly in the stronghold, but it's not in any room, container, or vendor.
  • Terrier - Supposed to be with Gordy. It's not there or anywhere else in Copperlane for that matter.
  • Tiny Sporeling - Allegedly at Iswld in the Golden Grove (Elm's Reach). Not there or at merchant.
Has anyone been able to locate the last three? Are they actually in the game. The files do exist so...

I love collecting useless crap in RPGs. Since there are no cursed items, pets are the next best thing.

Has anyone been able to locate the last four? Are they actually in the game. The files do exist so...

There was another thread like this recently. The strategy guide is/can be out of date in some things, as they so often are (printing dates vs. last minute game changes are not uncommon).

General consensus is the spider is either missing/glitched or never made it into the final game. Sporeling seems to be the same.

Terrier and lab have both been found by others (I have the lab myself, never bothered looking for the terrier).

I know. Like I said, there's been a multitude of them. I just wanted to make one where up to date info is presented clearly for everyone to find and hopefully end the confusion and time wasted looking for things that are not there.

I've managed to find the yellow lab. Any idea where to locate the terrier? My search/google-fu has failed me.

I've tried going back to previous saves re: Gordy too but there is no obvious option during his quest (or after it completes, as one of the various rewards) re: getting a dog. So dunno...

The spider - I wonder if you're supposed to find it with a high Mechanic skill in pre-restored areas, but most don't have high Mechanics then...and when they do, the Stronghold areas have been restored already. Anyone try cheating a max Mechanics 1st time you get there to look around the broken down rooms? :p

Maybe some of them they decided to hold back for the expansion.

A rumor I just started says that if you very quicky change between the Black cat, the Orange Tabby and the Obsidian wurm so that all three of them are briefly on the screen at the same time, an easter egg triggers and they do something biological and after three turns the Black cat will give birth to a hamster named Boo...

I would assume that the Spider would be in Endless Paths Lvl 1 or in the Dungeon before it is restored. That's the only places I can think of that features a lot of spiders, but I may be wrong. The dungeon gets restored, but not the Endless Paths, and I ran through that place with a rather high-Mechanics character for it's level.

I'm also missing these as well. The guide says they're with the people/locations you mentioned. I'm assuming these three are bugged.

No, not even during my completionist playthrough. I'll chalk it up as bugs, I'm afraid.

Black Cat is the best pet anyway.

Open ribcage reveals rotten innards, hair comes off when you pet him? Black Cat doesn't care, he just purrs and does what cats do.

What would you do with a high Mechanics rank? There aren't any locked doors/containers and secrets are found with Perception afaik.

the Black cat will give birth

But the cat is undead...

Yeah, the spider queen on lvl 1 or the vithrack leader on lvl 12 seemed like a good place to check, but alas...

Good theory. I've gone through there with Mechanics 5 I think, but nothing higher.

It is? That doesn't make much sense at all and multiple guides I've read note that you need a high enough Perception to notice stuff. Of course, they could just as well be wrong. There's a lot of misinformation out there (as evident by the very existence of this thread). The description of the Mechanics only mentions traps, so...

I've gone through all of the levels with Mechanics 12 and Perception 19. If there was anything there (or in the Stronghold), I would have found it.

Yeah, but that only happens if one of them kills all of the squirrels first.

Perception has zero to do with finding secrets.

Perception has its uses (some really like the Interrupt as a build concept, apparently, among other things) - it's just that secret-hunting isn't one of them. ;)
