Pillars of Eternity Beginner's Guide

Recommended Posts

Any chance to get that in a proper form? You know... text that I can read in 5 minutes instead of wasting over 30 minutes of my life for the video?

It's chaptered. If you ever need to reference something, you can just skip to the bit you want to listen to. I do not have a professional setup (Don't have two screens, or editing software) so I'm just doing the best I can with what I have.

I realize I made one mistake when talking about Constitution, technically what I said is correct but it probably isn't 100% true because debuffs will reduce your defenses and thus make Constitution more valuable, sorry about that.

Direct link for those who cannot see it loading like I can't.

BTW: half an hour video... jeez... Any chance to get that in a proper form? You know... text that I can read in 5 minutes instead of wasting over 30 minutes of my life for the video?

Um, he wanted to make a proper video guide, something that I and many others requested. Also, I'm not even sure you read Sensuki's post. He has the entire video chaptered so you can skip to parts at your hearts content.

You can annotate your video and just write what you intended to say :)

Fair enough. I just would argue that a text form is better for multiple reasons

  • BY FAR quicker to read through - you learn more is less time
  • BY FAR easier to find one information you are looking for
  • Easier to find it (google / forum seach)
  • Easier to correct (just hit edit button and everyone always will be able to see correct content, even on a mobile devices)
  • Easier to make any comparasions (you can embed screenshots, images with tables, etc)
  • No need to split it in a parts - you can just write one mega-post containing all of what you want and expand when needed
  • It's less of an effort to skim through the text than watching half an hour video.

Sensuki, now that this is legit if you want to have people visit your page, you need to include keywords in the description and meta tags so you show up on youtube. You may want to include your sensuki name in there as well to help promote it further so folks who may have seen you will know it's somewhat official and not just jim bob who like whacking  trolls guide to making pretty characters.

No offence, friend, but you're coming across as awfully entitled here. Sensuki's put a lot of work into these videos and many people prefer them to text. If you want a text guide, there's nothing stopping you from writing one. I'm sure someone will sooner or later, and probably sooner.

(FWIW I prefer text as well, but that's neither here nor there.)

I have a project. It's a tabletop RPG. It's free. It's a work in progress. Find it here: www.brikoleur.com

Yea, including your name in the title of your videos will eventually be important as you get more subscribers. People will recognize it's a Sensuki video, not some random YouTuber who has no clue.

Here is my incredibly verbose guide to the Pillars of Eternity Character Creation(...)

One question. At 2:48 you say Hard is your favorite difficulty level "as it includes the intended encounter design for the game". Does that mean that normal difficulty is somehow less faithful to what developers had originally in mind? Is somehow better trying to play in hard, in your opinion?

Think of Hard as "core rules" like in BG.

That is my interpretation of the difficulty level, as Hard difficulty includes what I would call 'vanilla' encounters with unmodified creatures. Normal and Easy have less creatures and less or no elite creatures. This is my opinion on the difficulty settings based on the beta.

Thanks, I think I'll take a deep breath and try hard mode.

The beginning of the game will be a bit tough most likely, but once you gathered your party and ventured forth into the world of Eora, you won't regret your choice for playing on Hard :)

I also want to play on Hard but I have only ever played games on Normal ...so it will be an adjustment for me :)
