[v480] Ranger Pet and Characrter endurance don't fully regen

morhilane

Question

After coming back to the village from facing Mister Ogre and his hairy friends, I looked at my ranger's pet lion and his Endurance read 100/111. I also had a similar problem earlier with my Priest who got stuck at 61 Endurance in the spider caves (after fighting the Spider Queen). Only resting solved the problem (drinking an endurance potion did not fix the Priest's endurance).

This looks like the system is working correctly. You cannot have endurance higher than your health. Note that in your screenshot your ranger only has 100/553 health left.

I didn't know that (although it explain what I was seeing).  It's mentioned somewhere? Although, it doesn't look that intuitive the way it is currently displayed.

Well to be honest I haven't seen it documented anywhere but I saw someone mention it elsewhere on the forums and it makes a lot of sense to me. After all it would otherwise be possible for a character to keep fighting for sometime after they are dead. Mind you, you're quite right that it looks odd to players who are used to seeing their endurance fully regen so, assuming it is indeed intended behaviour, it should be documented in the cyclopedia.

I think this is actually a loading game bug. At least on linux it's easy to reproduce. For example:

1) Create a new Ranger character and a pet, eg. Bear/Lion.
2) either level up or not, but mainly save the game.
3) Reload and observe the ranger's companion health is set on exact number 100.

This corrects itself after leveling up or resting. But after the next reload the companion will have health set at 100 again.

Now, this seems to me really confusing. Never saw the health number of the animal going down in fight as in case of normal companions (correct me if mistaken please). And beasts in bestiary have only Endurance information. So is the health value used at all?

However, you have probably higher level character, haven't you? After the short test on lvl 8, when the Bear has Endurance > 100, it truly looks like there is applied the rule Endurance <= Health. So after reloading game the animal companion has both Endurance and Health at max = 100, here. The original numbers when saving the game don't seem to matter...

morhilane, can you confirm/correct this for your issue?

I can confirm the 100 health reset after you load a save for the pet and it's probably what happened. I saved the game and opened it up again and he was there at 100 health which was weird because the only thing I faced between a full rest at the Inn and the save was the Ogre and he couldn't have lost over 400 health in that fight when none of my character got downed.

After another rest I went to the Templar of Skaen and I saved and he is once again at 100 health when he was full before saving. There might be something else bugged with pet's health. He was actually downed in a fight against multiple cultists and when he "woke up" he was at max health when he shouldn't.

Although, the health = endurance when health < endurance thing really need to be documented somewhere.

You are right. This may confuse a lot of players.

Descriptions in game I found so far:

So there is something at least on the loading screen one has nonzero probability to encounter. But that should be also mentioned in cyclopedia...
