The Malcador debate - ersatz

Well we were talking about pictures versus arguing, as (sadly) we can't summon these ladies off the screen. If I were in Iga's presence (and she was inclined or somehow otherwise obligated to interact with me socially) arguing would be a secondary concern.

(From the pretty ladies thread)

...But if we have fake people on the forum, how are the arguments real?

Good point but I suppose you can still make a valid argument but lie about who you really are? A point a person makes doesn't necessarily need the person making the point to be who they say they are?

Yes, but is that actually exciting? A textbook can make a point. Usually it will make the point well.

But an argument is personal by design.

I imagine almost all of the registered users on this forum are actually real people. I suppose we have a few bots (that Google(1) user seems suspect)

So, elaborate: what makes the arguments exciting, then?

Can be fun exercise for the mind and a good way to learn some new things based on the ammunition and technique used.

Brilliant stress relief in person though, not so much online though, friend and I used to have screaming raging arguments back in Uni that we used to laugh about afterward whereas onlookers expected us to break into a fistfight.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

I once argue with my book. I won. How? I ripped it to shreds. I do the same with people.

I thought Swedes were genteel folk. Bofors and Saab aside.

I imagine various things make a debate exciting and its subjective as we all have different interests

But I know what doesn't make a debate exciting...anything related to GG ( I couldn't resist,  sorry  )

No putting Saab aside. We have to kill bears and other animals to survive and we ride reindeer. We all wear horned helmets and raid and pillage villages across our neighboring countries' coastlines. Also, because of all the nice looking females, Swedish men tend to get agressive around them because we need to show our dominance.

For me personally a good argument is like a good sexual relationship, one must ocassionally be surprised and dumbfounded by what a partner brings to the table (or bed,) as the most boring opponent is one whose arguments you can foresee and whose modus operandi has become tiresome and predictable. A good partner must of course also be open to persuasion and well thought out logical positions, and yield to the force of your penetrating insights, rather than just lying there repeating the same rote phrases again and again.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Bah, what good is a pretty person if they can't get into a good fight!
