Creative Task

Hello!

I applied to a Digital Media Industry school that will give me ALL tools to be whatever I want in the Digital Media Industry (Be it marketing, social media, games, commercials, movies, photos etc. etc.). This is my Key to become what I have been dreaming about becoming :D the funny thing is, I applied to them thinking I didn't stand a chance, so I made a bit of a joke application... they called me and said I do have a chance :)

I am currently working on what is called a "Creative Task" and I would like to discuss some bits of it with you to be able to flesh out my writing and present it better. I want it to be as good as it possibly can be, so I get a better and bigger chance of entering this school. It helps to discuss it.

"Developer's Corner" felt like the best place, as I want to get into the industry (not necessarily the Game Industry tbh, I just want to get into the Digital Industry).

Here's some info on the task:

Your approach could be, for instance, but not limited to:

  • How could technology contribute to starting a movement in 2030?
  • How might we motivate and enable people in the future?
  • How will people gain awareness to make the right decisions in 2030

I am only briefly touching these questions in this concept presentation (see below)

What format do you prefer I submit my Creative Task?

No preference as long as you can submit it digitally, it’s within our size limits (5mb), and we can review it in under 5 minutes.

What criteria will my Creative Task be assessed upon?

1.) Innovation & Feasibility and Originality
2.) Presentation and Effective Communication

I will only briefly explain the concept of my idea, this is not how I intend to present my idea to the school.

My idea has 2 primary stages, one for a more present VR (Virtual Reality) and one for a future EEG (Brain Computer Interface):

Stage 1: VR
I call my idea "The Architect", which is a software that would put you closer to your creation. A "Development Software" like "Unity", but tailored for a VR device. The idea doesn't stop at an "Offline Development Tool" though. Imagine being able to create your own "Space" and then invite others to join in on it (Facebook). Or if you are YouTube Content Creator, you could make an entirely new experience for viewers to enjoy!

This software exists, but the UI would have to be tweaked for a VR device (I imagine a HUD, heads up display, of some sort to be able to handle all menu's and options). You'd be able to upload creations, share creations in-engine/software. Create a 3D Train, upload it to "The Architect Database" and then others could use it in their own creations etc.

This idea spins out into infinity of how we look at the internet as well. How will you surf in VR? Would you walk around in first person on "the internet" and either take it slow and meet people on the way... or teleport you to the "page" or "product" that you want to check out. In-Store VR personel that provides customer support? Partnering with manufacturers? The possibilities are endless.

Imagine "MySpace" not being an "Internet Page" that you can customize, but rather a "Room" that you can build. Imagine the Pen & Paper environment this gives! Have an omnipresent DM that shapes the game as you play it.

Stage 2: EEG
This is where it starts to sound weird but... this technology is being developed and there are actual examples of where it is working (I saw a dude that made a wheelchair that he could command with his mind, on "Futurescape with James Wood"... or maybe it was "Through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman").

The ultimate goal of "The Architect" would be that you'd eventually be developing this "Space" in VR with your mind. Simply "think" and you have created a world. Again, it sounds weird, but by 2030 the technology will have evolved far and this software could be available.

---------

This is the "outline" of the idea. What do you think?

"How Internet behavior will influence social dynamics post Singularity."

There, now go do your home work.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Tea for the teapot!

You can't even drive cars without crashing and you expect jetpacks?

In the beginning of 2014, I read an article about flying "cars" (more like flying saucers) that you could order and get by 2015. No laws for it yet so you wouldn't be allowed to "fly" it commercially... simply speculating: You'll see some airborne driving "lanes" as early as 2020, I ssuspect, specially when Facebook wants to put drones with Wi-Fi everywhere (to make internet better and available to everyone).

Drones could light up the flight paths in cities.

Here's the device that you can use today btw, brain computer interface (and which a dude was making a mind controlled wheelchair for):

http://securityaffairs.co/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/hacking-brain-emotiv.jpg

Combined with either Project Morpheus (Sony) or with Occulus Rift ;)

If you can program the Emotiv to control wheelchairs with your mind... shouldn't you be able to be able to program it to be able to control applications?

You must be really old. I was promised a corporate-controlled globalized dystopia with cyberspace, anonymous anarchist hacker communities, designer drugs, no privacy, and lots and lots of personal electronics.

Link 1 showcases a number of currently existing products on the market:

Link 2 briefly mentions a number of 'breakthrough' technologies from last year (but more importantly has people you can email).

http://ict.usc.edu/news/usc-showcases-breakthrough-technologies-for-holographic-projections-and-realistic-digital-doubles-at-premier-computer-graphics-and-animation-conferences/

Link 3 is specifically on VR tech, with a further link that you should be able to trawl through to find more.

And I'm pretty sure if you google things like 'top 10 futuristic tech predictions' you might find something to supplement.

Now wake me up when someone breaks us out of the Matrix.
