Age of Wonders 3

So anyone play this yet?

I took a considerable amount of time with the first mission. In it, I saw things like this, right in the first mission.

And then I knew this game would be great.

Did you train any orc bards and succubi? :)

I wa a bit surprised how squishy monster hunters are.

Had a good laugh though when my goblin marauders killed a troll after I cast Last Stand on them.

Bought it, haven't had the chance to play much but I am enjoying the campaign so far.

It's the first time I've played the age of wonders series, so far I am wishing I had gotten started earlier.   :)

I have fond memories of the original AoW, so I followed the news. But 40 euros is a steep price for me -- I just got Elven Legacy + all DLCs for 5 euros yesterday. Waiting for a discount, the gameplay videos were really convincing.

Have you got any russian friends? Then they can get it for you for a quarter of the price.

I send a friend from the US money via paypal to gift me a copy on steam.

Waiting for more detailed reviews, this looks really good, but while I liked AOW:SM it wasn't exactly something I played to death.

Diplomacy is pretty pants...

And the AI can do some silly things. Had an enemy warlord spam the "spell" that allows him to instantly create irregulars at the expense of population. 100 city population -> 1 irregular

He did it multiple times a turn for multiple turns. When I counted he had done it 24 times, downgrading his city in the process.

It looks to be right up my alley, as I really dig Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. However, so far, many comments made are about FELH being better and more civ-like, with economics and a bit of diplomacy, while the art for AoW3 outshines that of FELH. Perhaps I'll get this, question is; at what price?

So does this game have any city building aspect to it, or is it more the Age of Empires/more typical RTS sort of thing, if that makes sense?

Seems like 'neither' is the answer here. Not SimCity, not Age of Empires, but Civilization.

Yep, game is 4X game with tactical combat, most similar to tittles like Master of Magic, Master of Orions, Fallen Enchantress and previous Age of Wonders, but Civilization also give some idea how game works, although hero units, quest and environmental objects and collectibles addition to tactical combat make flow of game different from Civilization.

City building boils down to making a tactical decission what you need the city for and then building the upgrades for that. Barracks etc in the cities near the front, research and mana producing buildings in safe areas. Though there is always the urge to build everything in every city ;)

The game is about producing armies though and trouncing your opponent.

edit: and no, you can't limit yourself to one city like in Civ and hope to survive :)

How intuitive is AoW 3? I can't invest time in a game that needs a 500 page manual and a correspondence course to get going.

I do play Alpha Centauri regularly so I'm sorta used to the conventions of the genre.

И његова сва изгибе војска,

Све је свето и честито било
И миломе Богу приступачно.

If you can play Civ games then you know enough to start playing AoW3 and learn the rest as you go.
