In a recent interview you've conducted with Rock Paper Shotgun you've stated that what is important to you personally and to Obsidian as a whole is that when someone buys your game, irregardless of bugs and such, they don't feel ripped off.

So, I would just like to strengthen you (because I know how much feedback is generated and how quick are gamers to scream for blood, whether justified or not and over the smallest to the biggest issues) and just say that despite whatever bumps, incomplete content or rough edges, Knights of the Old Republic II was a very satisfying and fun experience (and also taught me a lot about how to look at combat design from a RPG/statistic-driven point of view) and I don't feel ripped off in the least.

 

So, thank you and everyone at Obsidian.

I'm actually going through KOTORs now and I can't help myself but feel that the original KOTOR is one of the buggiest messes I've had the displeasure to deal with. And I can't blame age for that, NWN is even older and is a smooth experience. So I don't understand why is the sequel getting all the flame, while the first game is praised by the general public as a masterpiece...

I broke my own moratorium on reading RPS to peruse that article, it's now firmly back in place and of much firmer constitution, Mr Nathan Greyson is quite clearly an idiot and the sites "journalism" has degraded to Kotaku levels.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

THIS. I would be ready to invest a nice chunk of money if Obsidian ever decided to look for funding for a "spiritual successor to Alpha Protocol" on kickstarter.

 

Please, Obsidian, we want another RPG set in a realistic espionage world. :)

Just because a word is idiotically redundant does not negate its existence. Especially one that's been in use for over 218 years

Ha, good one, but no, I'm not following that path of discussion as it would end up on "what is a word?". But I hope you did read everything else from that Wikipedia article.

 

Also, I've just finished KOTOR2 (with the content restoration mod) and unlike KOTOR1, I actually intend to play the game again. Especially knowing what will come, because the way my Atton was made, he couldn't win the last combat :<

I've read such words quite often in these boards but how many of us will actually support if Obsidian crowd-fund text-heavy game?  Once Urquhart came up with a Sci-Fi RPG with Skyrim-ish gameplay and Obsidian content, aiming at somewhere around Star Citizen level of funding (around thirty mil., compared with 4 mil. PoE).  How much are you going to pay for that or do you want other people (including publishers and investors) pay for such game?

 

Considering Obsidian's strength is their content, I don't like the idea of letting Obsidian compete against AAA games, which seems to be enough risky.  Personally, I'd like Obsidian to make games with more low-budget gameplay and rich content, while employing solid "rule-sets."  In fact, the only reason I asked Obsidian to make action-RPG hybrid games in the past was that it was the only option for Obsidian to survive at that time.

Even without the Restoration Mod I still felt KOTOR 2 was superior to its predecessor in every way. Just like how people overreact over the slightest little bug in Obsidian games and say they are ****, people also overreact over the quality of BioWare's old titles. KOTOR 1 was a retread of A New Hope, essentially, basically same story but with different characters, and most of the companions weren't overly likeable with the exceptions of Canderous & Jolee Bindo. KOTOR 2 improved upon the gameplay, and introduced the influence system which was a neat little feature, not perfect but neat, advanced classes and it didn't have a blimey level cap like KOTOR1. Finally, I found the story to be unique in terms of Star Wars with various shades of grey instead of the traditional good vs evil. The characters all felt compelling to a degree. So to sum up -- I agree with the OP.

Although I'd take issue with the notion that they have to go text heavy. There are other ways of conveying meaning and artistic impact without writing it out on screen.

There is, but it is typically more expensive.

It is. It is a portmanteau of "irrespective" and "regardless."

 

To the topic, I have never felt "ripped off" by an Obsidian game.

I wouldn't pay a single dollar as i have zero interest in "sandboxes" and Skyrim-ish gameplay is worse than watching paint dry.
