I think a cinematic game focuses on scenes in a story (plot), so it's more about focused drama and less of a sandbox approach.

If anybody is into Frog God Games's stuff (Tome of Horrors, Swords and Wizardry Complete, Rappan Athuk, etc.) They're doing a kickstarter for their "Lost Lands" campaign source book.  It's going to be spendy, but it's estimated to be 500+ pages and built for sandbox play for levels 1-20.  Speaking from personal experience, all of the stuff of theirs I've purchased has been of the highest quality in terms of editing, writing, organization and creativity.

Also Reaper is doing another "Bones" miniatures kickstarter.  A fantastic way to get a huge assortment of high quality, plastic minis

They just keep on coming. Nothing really grabs me in this group, but tastes vary so here you go:

  • Dragon Kings -- A rules agnostic fantasy game world, with PDF rules supplements for Savage Worlds and Pathfinder. Currently at $20,226/$29,000 with 40 days to go.
  • Darklands: First Edition -- A skirmish miniatures wargame in a fantasy setting. Not really a RPG as such. Succeeding at £77,020 with 12 days to go.
  • Aeon Wave - A Cyberpunk Scenario for Fate Core -- Pretty much what the title says: a single-shot or short run cyberpunk scenario for the Fate Core game system. Includes a downloadable sample. At $833/$1,000 with 27 days to go.
  • Amethyst - Fantasy & Technology Collide -- Reboot of the setting for Pathfinder and D&D 4e. At $1,540/$8,000 with 27 days to go.
  • CBL: Characters-By-Level for Pathfinder RPG -- "Pathfinder compatible pre-generated NPCs that come with Hero Lab portfolios and high quality character art files." This is a monthly subscription. At $681/$13,000 with 27 days to go.
  • The Unhallowed Horror Fantasy Roleplaying Adventure Path -- "A three part horror fantasy adventure path for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game!" At $2,021/$5,000 with 27 days to go.
  • Kromore 2145 RPG -- "A new Space/Steam RPG Tabletop Game." Failing at $10,700/$20,000 with 3 hours to go...
  • March Against Darkness -- "A gritty medieval roleplaying game with an easy to learn and play system, and a richly detailed world." Succeeding at $4,320.
  • Josiender Rulebook and The First Saga -- "a fantasy Tabletop RPG featuring multilayer puzzles, rich ecosystems, ever-progressing timelines, and the Discipline System." At $1,127/$9,000 with 25 days to go.

New this week: The Strange, a Tabletop RPG by Bruce Cordell and Monte Cook

"Explore mysterious worlds hidden just outside our reality in this new RPG using the story-based Cypher System of Numenera."

"The Strange is a cosmos-sized artifact built in the afterglow of the Big Bang. The original alien builders lost control of it eons ago, but their dark energy network remains 'beneath' our universe. For those on Earth who've discovered it, everything is different. These select few know that the Strange hosts recursions: unique but limited worlds with their own laws of science and even magic, seeded into the network by the creative resonance of pure imagination, but still nonetheless very real."

It is currently succeeding quite nicely at the sum of $177,865 with 28 days to go.

Now this seems to have the concentrated weird I miss from Numenera. Also, the system will be solid, this much we can already tell. I'm seriously considering backing.

Not really sure where to put this, however this is the closest place I can think of -

Flying Frog Productions (Last Night on Earth, Invasion from Outer Space, A Touch of Evil) is kickstartering a new game -

Shadows of Brimstone is a fast-paced, Cooperative, dungeon-crawl boardgame set in the Old West, and mixed with Unspeakable Horror!

Players create characters, taking on the role of a classic Western Hero Archetype, such as the Law Man, Gunslinger, or Saloon Girl. Forming an adventuring posse, the Heroes venture down into the dark mines, overrun with all manner of ancient demons and foul creatures from another world. With tactical gameplay, lots of dice, and a robust card-driven exploration system, no two games are ever the same as the Heroes explore the mines finding new enemies to fight, new Loot to collect, and new dangers to overcome. Players can even find portals to other worlds, stepping through to continue their adventures on the other side!

I've liked some of the other FFP games, and this seems like it could be the physical game equivilent of an "Icewind Dale" type dungeon adventure.

http://www.kickstart...ws-of-brimstone

Currently they've more than met their goal and have 5 days remaining to try and hit some more stretch goals, if anyone is interested.

There's a lot of board games at the moment, with a few new RPG supplements in between:

  • Advanced Bestiary for the Pathfinder RPG -- This is an update of Green Ronin's 2005 Advanced Bestiary for the d20 system. What's an advanced bestiary, you might ask? Well apparently it's a series of monster building templates. KS succeeding at $25K.
  • ElfWood for Sixcess -- a fantasy setting book for RPGs based upon the Sixcess system. Their focus is on "wonky" game settings that are twisted versions of long established game tropes. Currently at $1K/3K with 35 days to go.

f4235a4042039b383b84604f2e576c00_large.j

  • Atlantis: Geographica RPG Supplement -- A companion book for the Atlantis RPG. "The Geographica details the people and culture of the antediluvian world once ruled by the kingdom of Atlantis." Succeeding at $11K with 14 hours to go.
  • OmegaZone Instant setting for the Fate Accelerated RPG -- "Post-apocalpytic Los Angeles meets Cimmerian Pulp Adventure with a heavy dose of Gamma World in this new RPG setting." Now that sounds twisted. Presently at $3K.5.5K with a week to go.

I don't believe it's been mentioned yet. Demon the Descent, the newest gameline in the World of Darkness from Onyx Path (previously known as White Wolf), currently has a Kickstarter going. It's been running for fifteen days now and is currently succeeding (successful) at $102,749 with fifteen days to go. The genre is spy intrigue with "techgnostic espionage," citing "The Matrix," "Burn Notice," "Person of Interest," "Fringe," and more as inspirations along with John Le Carré books such as "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". From my reading of what's available, I feel confident in saying you can (eventually) be a Bond or Bourne or Bauer or a (B)amalgam. Pretty excited to play this someday :)

http://www.kickstart...restige-edition

There will also be an AMA later today at 2 pm EST (presumably) in this section: http://reddit.com/r/rpg

I'll try to pop back here with the actual link when it's posted. Think that's it for now though. *shambles off*

Wow, this looks pretty much like a The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch RPG. With biomechanical monstrosities and some faint Kult vibes. Awesome.

  • Protocol Game Series: 15 Thematic Story/Roleplaying Games -- a series of games that "uses a simple method of shared storytelling with charts, motivations, character interaction, and plot"  -- succeeding at $3,670. Starting from the planet’s surface, the team has limited time to get to the station, climb inside, and repair the damaged station. The clock is ticking as problem after problem besets the team members who have limited resources to battle the ravaged reactor core."
  • Crios Role-Playing Game -- "Crios is a fantasy campaign setting that mashes the fantasy genre with that of Earth's First World War." It is based on the Renaissance Deluxe setting. Currently at $910/3,000 with 21 days to go.

I like the Crios one. Although I'm not convinced by the published material. It really needs some examples. I mean I could hack together a simple fantasy in ww1 mashup using a boot full of mud, tinned beef, and a smell of burning wire.
