Too damn hard

Recommended Posts

My wife and I have now tried for 4 hours, about 20 tries, on the first Jayne Kassender battle in the Spire on Normal difficulty and have our asses handed to uss every single time. The best we have been able to do is to get Chakti down to 50%. I am rather pissed off at this game and the developers over this. I am playing the fighter guy, and my wife is playing the fire girl. We are pretty much stuck having to start the game completely over again at this point which I refuse to do as I don't have the patience for that crap.

1. It is absolutely impossible to pick a person back up if they die because they get surrounded by the little guys that do 500 damage a pop. Rediculously overpowered for grunts.

2. If a person dies, the other person usually gets stuck trying to go in a circle around Jayne because of the craptacular camera / restricution that both characteres have to be on the screen a the same time - even when one is DEAD! How stupid is that.

3. You can't adjust difficulty without starting all over again.

4. My character sucks ass. Maybe I built it wrong, but I even followed the strategy guide's recommendations.

Oh well, selling this game back to Gamestop tommorrow. At least I can screw the devlopers over another new sale since they have screwed me.

That particular battle is the most difficult battle in the game, but as with most difficult challenges in games, changing a few things can often drastically improve your fortunes. It took me more than 20 tries the first time, but later I beat her in a couple of minutes rather relaxedly. You can search this forum for several threads talking about good strategies. The good news is that once you get Chakti down, she flees and you can rest and save up for the next encounter (which is nowhere as difficult), so you were actually nearly there.

I'm sure people can give you better tips esp. if you give more detail about what you're trying and how your character's built. Up to you, though.

Agreed. My girlfriend played as the hot Russian gun-chick and I played as the fire chick.

We had a lot of difficulty, and despite my original preference, once we died a few time during that boss battle we opened our game up to the public. Before too long we had two strangers join our game and we beat the game all the way through together. It was awesome. That's my advice; stop trying to do it alone. ;)

That particular battle was pretty much the best part of the game because of the challenge it offered. I didn't find the resurrection that hard to be honest, you just have to wait for the right moment to do it (kite them smaller enemies away from the body).

Yeah and clearly the developers screwed you for adding a challenging encounter in the game. They should have just done it the way most companies do it thesedays. No challenge at all and after 5 failures or so, let you skip the fight completely.

Or they could make that fight more in line with the rest of the game.

It's not only difficult for all the wrong reasons but also the first fight in a series.

Steadily rising difficulty level is hardly an unreasonable expectation.

(In case someone didn't get it, I was being sarcastic on the quoted part)

Boss fights should always be hard/challenging. It's kinda sad that thesedays some/most gamers throw their game out of the window at the first sight of an actual challenge. Now spending over 100 hours wiping on some WoW boss because someone always ***** up is a good reason to burn your game disc and bury it in place no one will ever find it...

The fight itself isn't even that big of an obstacle on normal difficulty if you've unlocked the empowered abilities. Few good shots in on those cyclopses and the archon and they are pretty much down in no time.

Not really sure what you are trying to say with the steadily rising difficulty level. It's not like all of the previous boss fights were all that easy, or that the next 3 would be so much easier than the 1st time you fight Jeyne.

It's funny, I went to Normal for that fight but I really was thankful for the halved damage she did to me rather than for the bigger damages I inflicted her. That dreaded that spear throw in Hardcore, not so much in Normal.

I'm not saying the fight was easy but that it was out of line with the rest of the game at that point.

Previous boss fights also suffer from similar problems, sometimes a boss turns out to be completely deadly unlike regular enemies found at that location.

And yes after I managed to defeat her once the remaining fights were too easy by comparison.

This especially messed up the last level, there was little to no challenge in fighting regular enemies after surviving that boss gauntlet and so I just did a run-through.

It's just a shame that such pacing problem ruined unique looking level with new and possibly interesting enemies.

I don't know about that, I made a run-through in the forest too, but that was because those

corrupted archons

were kicking my ass!

Maybe you should tell how you managed to change the difficulty level, since the thread starter didn't find such option and I'm too lazy to check

Also I agree about the difficulty on hardcore. I think we wiped on the fight for like 3 hours with Bendu. But it just makes the kill so much sweeter, when you finally manage to beat it.

Option screen, I think. I think it's the first screen that appears. I know I changed it in-game. I played on PC though.

Oddly enough, I've had an easier time with that fight than the next with Jeyne and her two handmaidens. I've had my arse handed to me too many times to count on that one, especially on my Anjali/Kat playthrough. Kat's down. You try to resurrect her, but that @$## melee handmaiden throws you across the room just as Kat's about to stand up. The final boss, the corrupted archons in the forest, the last Jeyne battle-- all of them are a billion times harder in my playthroughs.

Depends on how you play and the character(s) you have built up. e.g. the Lescanzi mercenary outside the swamps was deadly for my Katarina, piece of cake for my Lucas. And that's how it should be, especially since you can co-op.

Well, this thread was more useful then I thought it would be. Someone up above mentioned that they changed the level to Normal for a fight. I would not have thought that the XBOX version would have allowed you to change difficulty in an already started game due to achievements and such, but it actually did let us reduce the difficulty to Casual. Even on casual it was a challenge (which is rather surprising because I guarentee you no "casual" Bejeweled playing individual would have had a hope on that fight). It did however cut us enough slack to complete the fight after a few more tries. We then proceeded on without too much difficulty and beat the game tonight.

I have not had this much challenge in a game in awhile.

Note, after you die, the game reverts back to Normal difficulty, so you have to keep setting it back to Casual upon restart. Not sure what the deal with that is.

Difficulty is tied to your save file - otherwise you might change it in one game and find it carrys over onto another.

I'm surprised you never actually tried to change the difficulty, but all's well that ends well, I suppose.

I have yet to find reason as to why this is a bad thing. Honestly, I'm tired of playing games that offer no challenge what-so-ever.

I played this game on the PC and even without the keybinding patch I was able to beat the game on Hardcore with Katarina, I died a few times in my playthrough but I actually didn't die at all in the Jeyne fights but they were challenging.

I can understand frustration, but getting mad and hating a game because of challenge is, frankly, ridiculous to me as a gamer.

Let's not forget the Water Temple. There are too many kids these days that grow up on easy games, becoming pampered and throwing their controllers at the wall at the first sight of difficulty.

At the end of the game you are awarded the achievement for the lowest difficulty selected at any point during the playthrough (assuming you saved after cranking the difficulty down). This is both why you're able to change the difficulty mid-game, and also why it persists with the saved game and not the profile, like your options - it would suck to accidentally turn it down, reload an earlier save, and lose the possibility of earning the harder difficulty achievement.

I have a question. If I play the game on casual up until the final boss fight and then switch to hardcore will I be able to earn the hardcore achievement or do I have to play on Hardcore from beginning to end?

Reason for this question is I'm having a very hard time getting through the game on Hardcore and would like to know if it is possible to play on one setting until the final battle and then switch over to hardcore for the end of the game.

You have to play on hardcore from start to finish.

In future, if new version of Dungeon Siege III add "Custom" difficulty with individual settings OR modding then Dungeon Siege III would not award any achievements relating to difficulty. Dungeon Siege III will still award main quest completion achievement and perfection achivement (complete all quests).

Some persons need to use "custom" difficulty other than causal, normal or hardcore difficulty.

For now, even with "Casual" difficulty, boss fights are VERY difficult for me to beat! I died very often in boss fight(s)!!! I own Playstation 3 console.

I don't think the game is too hard --- though maybe combat relies too much on an invulnerable dodge mechanic --- but it is a bit odd how much harder some of the boss fights are than everything else. Playing hardcore with Kat, and only half-way through or so, I basically blast through everything without even thinking until I get to a major Boss, and then I die multiple times until figuring out how to play the encounter without making too many mistakes.

I'm doing normal anjali and things are a breeze.

Apparently (and correct me Nat if I'm wrong) Obsidian developers too had their moments in DS1 multiplayer map with a solo combat mage against ice archers outside of fallraen: You dodge their attacks by going to the proper dirction, then send in a fireball between shots: Very much like ds3, and ds3's only saving grace.

The first battle with Jeyne Kassynder in that arena is indeed harder by many orders of magnitude.

For example, on my second hardcore playthrough with Lucas I didn't die once, and then I got to that battle and lost count of how many times I died.

If you play as Katarina, the only possible and useful move in this area is EMPOWERED Heartseeking shot with maxed talent THrill of the Hunt and high agility. It will destroy all those pesky mobs and recharge your power up to the same level. I really hate the archon (either Chakti,Rajani or Saraya), they can instantly kill U with 1 spear throw or with their flame pillar. WHen I'm Lucas I use Vanguard strike a lot for you're invulnerable while performing that skill. Just Heroic Charge to quickly approach the boss and Vanguard Strike and run and repeat again. If you're Reinhart it maybe harder for Reinhart fights slowly. Just use the GoA evrytime U can and STAy AWAy from the mobs! No suggestions for Anjali though
