What were some of the big choices you decided to make on your first playthrough?

I ended up being mostly merciful. Spared Rajani, decided to help out the Cyclopses. Though I did give up the Dapper Old Gent to Wulf. Spared Jeyne in the end as I had promised the Queen.

I especially enjoyed the ending slide about Jeyne. I ended up delivering Jeyne to the Queen in the end, and the Queen was compassionate towards Jeyne. But Jeyne ended up assassinated, strangled in her bed. And she had not bothered to defend herself from her assailants. Thought that was really nicely written.

Was surprised that the Heart of Nagog wasn't mentioned in the end, though if you give the house to Leona there is a rather funny bit devoted to that. Was also too bad that we didn't get any ending for the First People (or any choice there for that matter), nor did we hear anything more of what happened to Phineas and Roderick.

Jeyne survived in my ending slide, though possible life threats were mentioned.

I did almost the same choices on my first playthrough. The only difference was that I decided to destroy the Heart of Nagog and keep the Gunderic Mansion to the Legion. Don't remember if this was mentioned in the ending slides. And Jeyne didn't die, but her life was threatened.

And I agree about Jeyne. The choice to keep her alive and let her speak to the public was my favorite choice of the game (although I played with Lucas). That gave the story a nice touch. Actually, the entire ending felt very satisfying.

I really would like to know if there is a chance to not burn Jeynne army. I tried in my 3rd playthrough but nothings happened when i did disagree.

What choice are you talking about exactly?

Gave away Gunderic Mansion.
Freed the Krug.
The Baron and Hans had to divide the land.
Helped Cyclopses.
Sent Rajani back with a warning.
Spared Jeyne.
Did not pass any judgement on the criminals.

All I can think of atm.

Edit: Dapper Old Gent joined the Legion.

-Let Rajani live
-Gave the mansion to Leona
-Sided with the cyclopses
-Spared the Dapper Gent; had him join the Legion
-Promised the Queen I would spare Jeyne and did

Do these choices actually change how certain things play out, or is the only effect the end-game slide show?

I'm pretty sure the Rajani one makes a difference...

If your talking about Glitterdelve there was a very good reason why you had to burn Jeynne's army. It had something to do with them having overwhelmingly large numbers and an active will to kill anyone who doesn't look like them (And them some, possibly). You couldn't just stay down there and kill the all sort of number count.

-Rajani was free to go
-left Heart of N alone but destroyed it/freed the ghost after the fight.
-Kept mansion for Legion
-Left the Krug in jail
-Sided with the Baron in the land dispute
-Helped Cyclops
-Dapper Gent w/the Legion
-Spared Jane/she had to make amends (not w/the Queen)

-Sided w/the Queen morally that the trap in the mines seemed dishonorable. (but in RL sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do)

....I'm sure there were at least a few other minor influence/mini-decisions made but can't think of them offhand.

Destroyed the Heart of Nagog and gave the mansion to Leona.
Sent Rajani back with a warning.
Freed the 'Krug' but told him to leave the city for his own safety.
Baron Barrenbaron and Hans had to divide the land.
Sided with the Cyclops.
Spared the Dapper Old Gent and made him rejoin the Legion.
Spared Jeyne- asked her to side with the Legion's cause (results in her being declared an apostate but she still lives in the ending slide).

I tried to play the game as idealistically as possible and I was really surprised that I was able to get away with this in an Obsidian game (aside from the Dapper Old Gent and Wulf's epilogues the rest of the ending slides were pretty cheerful)

I didn't destroy the Heart of Nagog, and gave the mansion to Leona. Very funny ending slide about that one, but does she really hope to fit all her people in that mansion? Sure it's big, but not that big!

I spared Rajani and she went back to Jeyne. She and her people ended up pledging their loyalty to Anjali in the ending slides.

I freed the Krug and he stayed in Stonebridge.

Barrenbaron and Hans had to share their land.

I sided with the Cyclopses, who created a new working union and were allowed to leave the Foundry for the first time in a century. I particularly liked the images for that one, like the one with the Cyclop coming outside and shielding his eye from the sun's light.

I gave the Gent to the Stonebridge authorities. He was hanged and his body disappeared the following night. Wulf became Mayor (although I still don't understand what power does the Mayor have in Stonebridge), I hope his successor as Chief Constable will mix up the ranks with humans and automatons.

In Glitterdelve, I showed loyalty to the Crown at every turn, and accepted to spare Jeyne's life when asked.

I spared Jeyne in the end and asked her to help me rebuild. The ending slide indicates that she was declared apostate for asking the people to stop fighting the Legion... which makes me think that the Azunite Church wasn't simply following their Saint, but actually wanted power over all Ehb.

No ending slide for Phineas makes me think that he may have a bigger role to play in possible extensions or DLCs. After all, he too has a lot to rebuild, starting with the Glitterdelve and the knowledge of Geomancy.

Basically, I tried to play an idealistic, very close to the Legion's ideals, Lucas. That's why I gave the Gent to Stonebridge and why I spared Jeyne and asked her to help us rebuild.

Also, Hugh Montbarron was an ass for trying to exploit that kind of thing from someone. Very nice, mister!

I let the Queen decide Jeynne fate. Surprised me that Jeynne didn't try to defend herself.

Spared the Archon. Then the rest of the Archons. Spared Jeyne. Y'know, I think it'd be easiest to just say I spared everyone. I'm a goody goody. I may have burned some soldiers that were asking for it, though.

So, that last minute decision with Marten. If you take him with you he dies, right? I wasn't falling for that old trick, again!

Have to take an earlier comment regarding Katarina back. I intially remembered her to be specialy mentioned in the cutscene with the gunderic mansion but after revisiting and consulting my newly arrived game guide I was wrong on that. It wasn't in this thread but another one. Just saying it. :ermm:

Just finished my second playthrough. Jeyne's sentence if she stands trial is very chilling, the part where they mention her hands almost made me regret my decision. Also, I was surprised to see a 'good' ending for the Dapper Old Gent, since I heard that he only had 'bad' endings : he had to leave Stonebridge because the people there still resented him, but he went to Gunderic manor and restored it to its former glory, and the Legion will have new training grounds for mages in the future.

First time around...

- Destroyed the Heart of Nagog and gave Gunderic Manor to Leona.
- Killed Rajani and every other archon.
- Sided with the cyclops.
- Freed the Dapper Old Gent.
- Killed Jeyne.

I found my second playthrough ending much more satisfying. You miss out on a lot by just killing Jeyne and the archons. :p

This decisions are not groundbreaking...the game-play is not 180 degree changed. From what I saw the only changes you see is in the end-game clip. Pretty stupid and time consuming, I rather had Obsidian working harder on other aspects rather on dialogue choice and end-game clip scenarios.

I doubt they were trying for ground breaking. Not every game has to break new ground and become a masterpiece of its generation. As well, you could level that same criticism at nearly every other game with choices and consequences out there. Few companies so much as try to show immediate in-game changes. Would I have preferred if certain decisions in DS3 had an obvious visible impact? Sure. Am I dissatisfied with how DS3 presented outcomes as vaguely animated end game slides? Not at all. I thought DS3 had one of the better endings I've seen in years. The presentation and callbacks to certain events were top notch. They felt *meaningful* to me. When all is said and done, what I take from the experience is what matters most.

I'm all for Obsidian learning from their past projects and utilizing that knowledge to improve their future work; but I like what they did with DS3's choices, and look forward to seeing where they go next.
