Mike all the way, I don't want to start over and have to build up another character especially since this one has worked out so well.

Its tough. I hate the sequel problem of "Your original character in the first game finished as a god among men, yet at the start of the second game he seems to have forgotten all of his skills."

I voted for Mike tho since its continuity a sequel is looking for. Hell, if ME2 can pull off killing your character in the first 10 minutes then rebuilding him to get around the above statement.. I'm sure AP2 can come up with something as equally preposterous.

If not, then an option of importing your previous super god would be an option, but that'd throw the whole balance out of whack. Unless you scale the difficulty accordingly.

A case could be made for starting a new identity since it would eliminate the problems associated with importing Mike from the first game. It could also provide another perspective on the whole situation. Hell, AP2 could go 3 steps further and include both a Mike storyline (imported with all his godly stats and a real super hard campaign) and a new character (easier campaign since he's not a super-god).

I'm quite taken with the idea of playing the agent assigned to hunt Mike down... especially if the Mike you're hunting managed to accurately reflect the Mike you portrayed in AP I. (Though that'd be really hard to do)

As much as I love Mike, I'm going to have to say a new character -- so long as they can be of either gender.

Though my true preference would be for Obsidian to take the Saints Row II route, and allow for Mike to have (retroactively) been female all along (introducing MICHAELA "MIKE" THORTON). Because, sure, I'd love to continue his story... but I think as long as Obsidian stick to a fixed-gender protagonist in this kind of RPG they're shooting themselves in the foot.

No. Just no. Saints Row 2 is a wacky game and doesn't give a sh*t about the plot. AP is serious game and turning Mike into a tranny would be dumb.

Ack! Sorry! I didn't think I would need to define "retroactively".

Retroactively: Done after the fact; applying to events that have previously transpired

There is no "tranny-Mike". What I'm suggesting would have AP II assume -- if (and only if) you were playing a female Mike -- that the Mike of AP I had been female, too.

"Not really", if the save transfer checks for personality perks.

I suppose you're right. An unpredictable Mike would just be portrayed, well, unpredictably.

New character. There's just too much room for disappointment if it's a carry over character.

Mike Thorton's love child. At char. creation instead of selecting a background, you could select a mother: Scarlet for Field Agent, Mina for Tech Specialist, SIE for Soldier and Madison for Freelancer, or something like that. That would be an awesome way of opening up unique dialog choices for each background, and each character could have a slightly diferent appearance (eg hair color, skin tone) based on who the mother is. This would be awesome. The only thing that would make things tricky is the that it would be have to set a few years in the future (don't want another Deus Ex 2...). The idea of young Marburg is also an awesome idea, but that has more of a spin off than a sequel feel, and I'd prob. rather take Thorton for another spin. In the meantime get your friends to buy this game, so we can get a sequel, or maybe some DLC.

Oh, and other than the aforementioned Marburg prequel, continuing the sotry with an established NPC does have huge problems due to the fact their peronalites and backgrounds are so clearly defined.

Total New Character and Hell with a Prequel just do a Sequel. While it may be ok have a tie-in based on AP1 ending, unfolding more story as to what happend to such and such. By and large the whole of the game is NEW, including cast.

A G22 agent would be quite interesting since we never understood their real motivation.
By the end of the game, every character had a clear (or at least deductible) motivation, but Albatross and his men?
Otherwise a new character, with Mike as a handler.
Of course, that's all in the realm of extreme speculation, since the chances of a sequel are slim, but who knows.

That's crazy. Insane. Retarded. I love it! (Still wouldn't suggest it though. >_<)

They wanted stability, Status Quo.

New character, definitely. And make you able to chose between male or female.

A Sis game totally could work. She'd be like a younger punkier Gordon Freeman.

Yeaaah...except that the best thing about AP - the dialogue and choice system - wouldn't exist anymore.

She could be constantly accompanied by a smartass Mike, Episode 1 style.
Maybe even set up that she's Alyx' future mom. Get the wild mass guesses rolling.

Except it would, because very large portions of communication are nonverbal.

Instead of Bluff, Denial, and Honest you'd have Play It Off, Shrug, and Nod. I think you could do something cool with a mute protagonist, and Sis looks too cool to leave at just a footnote in one game. If not a reappearance (I voted for a G22 operative, so she could appear in that game) then I would not complain if she got her own game. Albatross would be a boss character to play as, but it would probably need to be a roleplaying strategy game...

That actually sounds pretty cool. On paper at least.
