It seems as Sega has secured the Alien/s license.. so far they are making a fps and an rpg. I wonder if this has anything to do with Obsidian? Hmm hmm hmm? Probably not since the Obs/Sega press release mentioned a new ip. Then again would Kotor be considered a new ip in the SW universe? The old forum is gone but I could have sworn someone from Obs went into detail about the difference between a new ip based of an existing ip or something like that.

Anyways.. for what its worth.

EDIT: forgot source.. Darkhorizons newspost of The Hollywood Reporter article

EDIT2: "Did it mention the predator licence as well? Aliens vs Predator is better than just aliens (except in movie form of course)?"

Nope.. it does mentions Lance Henriksen reprising his role.

Heres to hoping.. but not too much!

YESSS!!!! SEGA becomes ny favorite publisher if they continue like this. So maybe there's hope for an AvP3 developed by Monolith (already worked together with Sega on Condemned) too? Nonetheless, it's great Sega shows interest to continue the Alien franchise. :)

This could be interesting. And I mean the RPG Alien, not the FPS version. But I wonder what they'll do with it? I mean, Alien was restricted to one alien in a claustrophobic spaceship. Aliens (Alien 2) was restricted to a space station on a mining planet (best movie ever!!1). Alien 3 was so bad I'd rather forget about it entirely. Alien 4 was all about a huge spaceship, with a mutated Alien. And a slimy blob. And a girl in a thong.

I'm guessing they won't be making an open-ended RPG with sprawling maps and tons of interesting locales. Or I might just be narrow-minded and unimaginative.

Did the ever say that Project Georgia was a new IP? I haven't payed too much attention so they probably have.

I know they said that about Project New Jersey, which is the one that had a forum, but that doesn't exclude anything.

Still, if it's not the game Obsidian is working on it just means more RPGs in the future. That can only be a good thing.

(and I for one am hoping they'll leave the Predator license out of it. AvP may have been good games, but I think Alien is a much stronger setting)

How exactly do you make an Alien RPG?

System Shock style?

No predators in my Aliens please. Smoothely designed scary communal insect type Alien > Wifebeater T shirt wearing crabfaced WWF wrestler rastaman.

Hmmm, I'm interested to see how that would work out as an RPG. Aliens is awesome, but I can't see much potential variety in characters and story. I'll be cautious.

FPS/RPG hybrid would probably work quite well.

Then there could be pure RPG where different companies would be pretty much as different factions to join and first half or 2/3 would be all kinds of political, commercial, stealthy, and battle controversy between them. The big threat would of course be Aliens. Something similar as how Fallout dealed with super mutants and how Fallout 2 dealed with those oil rig guys.

I won't mind the first person view if we have a third person view toggle like what is in Oblivion.

Third person action-combat sucks. Always. Just look how Bloodlines turned out.

Wrong. JE, and G3 both have pretty good 3rd person action combat. So does Gauntlet series, BGDA series, etc., etc. In essence, you have made an error.

I have to agree with Volourn here. Third person comes into its own whenever there's melee involved.

YOU know that an Alien FPS is supposed to be played in First Person, how else would you get frightened? By running around in Tomb Raider style and smash everything that gets into your way? *yawn*
An Alien FPS, whoever will make it (hope it's Monolith) just has to be slow-paced, frightening and in FP. We're not talking about fighting some dumbass aliens there. We're talking about Aliens.
Alien RPG? Hmmm. Turn based would be more intetesting there, unless the AI kicks so ass that realtime would be more fun. But never ever make twitch-based action in 3rd person. That's just too cruel for this awesome franchise.

PS: Oh and Volly, JE and G3 are Action RPGs, whole lot of a difference there. My post was related to the Alien FPS.

Then why use BL as an example?

You get frighteneed? To me, a game's 'frightfulness' has nothing to do with the view. *shrug*

I don't Alien is 'meant' to be played in any certain way except in the way the devs decide.

We can only hope.

And I remember Feargus saying somewhere he'd like to make such a game. Perhaps this is it.

Obviously you never played a decent FPS, so I view your "opinion" as disqualified for now.
