DX10 cards might need seperate PSU

Don't worry, they'll learn. CPU makers hit the power wall quite hard a few years back, which is why they have been taking appropriate steps in the past few years. GPU makers have been ignoring the power problem until recently. The G70 was the first product (AFAIK) that had multiple clock speed domains and other tricks to try and contain power and temperature. They are now coming up against the wall and will take appropriate steps.

The first few DX10 cards might require their private gnuclear reactors, but hopefully the situation will improve quickly.

It'll probably mean getting a brand new PSU rather than a second one, like when the Pentium 4 came out. Of course that doesn't mean it won't produce more heat... it will... which means more noise as you need more fans.

I hate noise :/

Wouldn't that need a pump? I would assume pumps make as much noise as fans, although maybe at a less annoying pitch.

The fans on the liquid cooling systems will make some noise. The thing is, the amount of airflow and noise will vary just like they do now.

Nah... pumps are (supposed to be) pretty silent.

I suppose I'm the odd one out here, but I really don't mind some noise on my primary gaming box. I want my HTPC to be as silent as possible, but my gaming rig can roar a bit if it wants to, simply to demonstrate the power that lies underneath. :D

I just don't want it to start affecting my electricity bill.

Some of those liquid systems are loud, though. I guess that shows how much I share your thoughts on the matter. I don't see liquid cooled systems as a way to stay quiet. When I finally make that move, it will be to reduce more heat.

Well, the idea is that liquid cooling systems should be quiet, but some of those systems run liquid and a fan. The ones that move a lot of air will still make noise.

Hell, I have 7 fans in my system I can name off the top of my head. The noisiest is probably the lighted one in front. Maybe I'll take some pictures and share. You'd probably get a kick out of my system. It's a real beast inside.

tarna's rig is the most ridiculous I've ever seen, however. He had gadgets in there I couldn't even describe, let alone name. Nuts.

Anyhow, the upshot is that liquid cooling should be quieter, but the ones that appeal to me most aren't rated that much quieter than what I've got. What appeals to me about them is that they're cooler. whoooosh

I'm an instrinic fellow. If I want something to better cool my equipment, I'm going to get the best bang for my buck for cooling the components, and don't care at all about how "cool" it is. My case is beige.

Yeah, mines blue with a green light in front. I actually went cheap with it, though. It was $2.50 less than the other case with the blue light. hahaha. It's also quite heavy and comes up to my kneecap. I'm a pretty tall guy, so that's not a short system.

The power supply is up above and I can work on the drives, the motherboard, the PSU, and the fans without being forced to move stuff around in the system.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my PSU and I haven't felt the need to switch to liquid cooling. My whole rig runs cool. Very cool. Right now, as we speak, the CPU is running at 36C.

Still, I'm married and I can't have something truly ugly. That doesn't mean I don't have cool. Basically, it's like a new twist on the old auto-shop sign.

You can have cool and ugly and cheap.

You can have cool and pretty.

You can have it fast and cheap, but it won't be perfect.

Are you guys discussing Kirottu again? :p

:Eldar's full blown guffaws icon:

The only question is, how hard does Kirottu blow and will he keep my system cool?
