I'm having the same problem, hence why I came here. I googled any possible answers, but get mostly (if not only) Vista solutions, which are supposed to work for Win7 as well. I haven't had any luck, however. I finish creating a character and end up with a "Program has stopped running..." screen right after the scrolling the text.

System information:
----------
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

System Model: Compaq Presario A900 Notebook PC
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.7GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3062MB RAM
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode

And display information:

Card name: Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm guessing the problem is my Intel chip, which (if so) would also explain your problem, papasmurf. (And I'm sorry for stealing your thread, but at least this way both of our problems will be right at the top of the list.)

Your running on a dual core processor, I have a dual core processor but only if you have the right @#$% on your CPU, the game will instead of letting you play, it'll play games with you. Try disabling one of the cores and see if that works.
